First of all, according to Mary Bagley, after each eruption the size of the cone changes. The volcano has a semicircular ridge called Mount Somma that rises to 3,714ft. The valley between the cone and Mount Somma is called Valle del Gigante, or Giant’s valley. Also, according to Bagley, after it erupts it covers the land with volcanic ash that makes the land fertile which helps with growing grapes and wine, that is why people rebuild their house and buildings along the side of the volcano. Second of all, according to Bagley, scientists have detected a tear in the African Plate. This allows heat from Earth’s mantle to melt the rock of the African Plate, building up pressure that causes violent explosive eruptions. Last of all, according to History.com, Mount Vesuvius has a 20 year eruption cycle. The last serious eruption was in 1944, but the most famous was in 79 C.E. After Mount Vesuvius erupts, under Mount Vesuvius, and it’s 20 year eruption cycle are all interesting facts about the eruption in …show more content…

Many lives had been lost in this earthquake. In Document F, it explains how the plague brought the population of Rome from one million to 250,000, so it killed 75 percent of the people. This shows how the plague lowered the population drastically. This loss of population made it harder for Rome to find laborers and soldiers for war. The economy suffered and Rome was forced to acknowledge the loss of its power.

There were so many deaths, that there were not enough survivors remaining to bury the people who have passed (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). It is believed that the cause of this outbreak was because of the bacterium Yersinia pestis, according to forensic research (Saylor).
In this stage, the type of lava changes and eruptions become more explosive. The new lava flows increase the slope and eruption rate gradually decrease over a period of 250,000 years. As the volcano becomes dormant, the erosional stage takes place. The mountain loses elevation and subsides into the oceanic crust. Erosion also causes deep valleys and coral reefs to form.

There are many natural disasters that affect the world, for example, volcanoes. Mount St. Helens is known to be the most active volcano in the Cascade Range in Washington; effecting the people and the state. It was first recognized as a volcano in 1835! Before the eruption on May 18,1980, Mount St. Helens was a beautiful symmetrical cone, 3,000 meters above sea level. For most of the 20th century, many people viewed this mountain and recreation area as a beautiful and peaceful place, but after the volcano erupted in 1980 that view point was shattered.
Volcanoes have some of the most fertile soil on earth and also create the breathtaking backdrop to some of the most beautiful parts of the earth. I would like to learn more about how volcanic eruptions have had an impact on human history. I could do this by doing research on the internet of various volcanic eruptions throughout the history of mankind. Volcanoes not only shape and create the earth but they also shape and create human history.

These two plates push and shove each other causing small tremors throughout which can cause landslides, volcanic eruptions and once in a couple years, quakes with devastating results. The strongest earthquake recorded occurred in 1991 with a measure of 7.6 on the Richter scale. This earthquake left 4 dead and buildings as well as bridges and road were completely destroyed. If another Earthquake occurs, the coastal cities would be the most affected ones as they are closer to the plates.
