The prompt for this essay is quite simple: write about how your involvement in sports, community service, leadership, academics, and other extracurricular activities have affected your overall character. However, I feel as though this essay would be better if focused on my career in lacrosse and how it’s changed my life over the past five years, helping me throughout the good and bad, the simple and the challenging. Lacrosse has been a part of my life for about five years now. I started playing when I was in fourth grade, simply because I wanted to branch out and try something new, exciting, and a little bit out of my comfort zone. I had played soccer for many years beforehand, so this new sport was a good start. My brother …show more content…
He confronted my dad and told him that he believed I had what it takes to play in a more competetative league, Lacrosse Northwest. He told my dad that his daughter, Galena Clark, had played with the Rippers before and had had a wonderful experience. At first, my dad was hesitant about letting me play at such a competative level, but after talking to me about it, he realized that lacrosse was something I truly loved and wanted to become better at, so he let me sign up for tryouts for the 2017-18 travel team. Of course, I was excited for this, but I was also extremely nervous, so I did the only thing I knew would relive the stress: I started going down to that little green-gray wall and playing wallball almost every day, just like I had done in the offseason. I worked on everything I knew I needed to improve, especially using my left hand to pass accurately and catch confidently. After just a short while of doing this, I noticed myself becoming more and more comfortable with my stick and more and more confident in my abilities. I was imporoving at such a quick rate that I knew I would be ready for the upcoming
My passions are Lacrosse, Reading, and Family. It’s important to have passions because it makes you who you are. I like lacrosse because it’s a new sport with new rules and new everything to me. I like learning all about it. My team has a lot of people, so I can make new friends.
Joining the lacrosse team, supplemented by joining the wrestling team and moving away for my first year of college, has helped to me recognize who I am as a person and where I want to be in my life. I wish to become the best version of myself that I possibly can be, and when I
Luckily, one of my teammates from travel allowed me to play for his school's team, which I did for all of middle school. This was a really good
Lacrosse has always been a fascinating sport but it never has been one of the top sports like baseball, football, or basketball. I chose this topic because there is so many interesting facts about the sport, for example, why was this sport created and how has it changed the lives of many people. For example, lacrosse was created by the Native North Americans back in the 1630’s. Some topics that will be talked about in this essay are how do you play the game, how the game has changed overtime, and some general history about the game. Lacrosse originated as a tribal game and as a method for Native Americans to entertain themselves.
Many people face life-changing events and experiences that impact their lives and their countries. Melba Beals from “Warrior Don’t Cry” changes African Americans students’ education. Feng Ru from “The Father of Chinese Aviation” changes his country’s transport. Jackie Robinson from “I Never Had it Made” also makes it possible for African Americans to play professional sports. Melba Beals, Feng Ru, and Jackie Robinson all face life changing experiences that impact not just their lives, but also their countries.
How have I improved as a writer? I am thinking about my action plan as a writer have I improved, have I met the goals I set out to achieve on my first day of class, and what have I learned in this class? I will go over my time in this class and review the various topics I mentioned above and more. Looking back over my time in this class I will critique and praise myself. How I felt about writing when I first started this class compared to how I feel now, I would have to say I am more comfortable with writing.
The sport of lacrosse is a fast action, rapid paced game involving loads of running and precision movements. Playing lacrosse is my favorite sport because, it brings together my friends and me, it keeps me in stay shape, and keeps me disciplined and motivated for school. Every lacrosse practice brings together a massive group of friends to a place where we can be ourselves, and cherish an extravagant game. At school I never get to be myself fully, however out on the field surrounded by teammates, I can be myself and not worry about anybody judging me or putting me down.
My hard work and perseverance will speak for itself. My motivation was people telling me I would never be good enough to play lacrosse in college. I want to prove to them that they could not have been more wrong. I want to challenge myself to make them say “I knew that guy” whenever they hear my name or see me.
“LET'S GO!” Screams a player on my team who has clearly been at the field for a while, waiting anxiously for the first box lacrosse game of the season. This is my first season playing lacrosse; a sport that I've always wanted to play but never had the courage to try, until now. I arrive at the field, my heavy bag has started to cramp my hand before the game has even begun. Most of our team is there and is already padded up and waiting for the game to begin.
What I already know: Lacrosse has been around for decades, played by those who look for a real sport. It’s been said to be the fastest game on two feet, which is no understatement. It requires strength, endurance, and heart to be able to play the game of lacrosse. All these reasons are why I love to play lacrosse and why it has been my favorite sport for years. I can remember when I first started back in second grade, I didn’t think about why I was playing, it was just another sport to me.
Lacrosse is a wonderful sport to play, lots of fun doing it and lots of fun being a fan too. From the mid-1490s, of just a stick and a net attached to the end and some trees as goals to today's version of playing Lacrosse, it’s all the same sport. Whether it's being a Goalie, Attacker, Midfielder, or a Defender they all help the whole team and play as one team. It doesn't matter if you're young or old or the best player in the world to being a beginner they all to do it no matter if it is for fun or it's your
My entire life, sports were influential in every aspect of my life, whether it was talking about sports, playing sports, or watching a game. According to Meghan McDonough, youth organized sport participation is extensive and is developmentally significant for young people (1). Before entering college, hockey was at the center of my life, but I comprehended a slim chance of making the NCAA team or the club team. My coach advised me to play for a club roller hockey team. One of the reasons I applied to SUNY Cortland was their club roller hockey team.
Evolvement of Women’s Lacrosse Throughout history it has always been a constant argument between the sexes. Whether or not man was stronger, faster, or more talented than women. Many agree on the fact that men 's sports are overall more entertaining because of the fast pace and aggression men possess that women lack. A sport that is impacted by this notion is women 's lacrosse.
Figure skating taught me how to recover from failures in my everyday life by not letting them define me and accept that there are no shortcuts to success. Keeping a positive outlook on life has helped me set clear goals, be less critical of myself, and produce better results than
My 10 Life Lessons My first and most important life lesson is to be thankful. I know that is such a simple one, and it is one that I have been taught my entire life. However, I have just recently learnt how important this lesson is. I am a nursing student, and during my third week of clinicals at the nursing home I was assigned a patient that is a vegetable.
