I have experience working with clients suffering from dementia, cancer, spinal cord injury, Alzheimer, and depression. Working as an aide helped me understand the importance of the healthcare system and working well with others. What appealed to me the most is the opportunity to interact with and care for someone in need. At the end of the day, I was happy to see a smile on my clients faces and admire how appreciative they are of me. Making people happy and assuring them that they had someone they could rely on for assistance truly warmed my heart. It made me realized the difference I made in their lives, which also made me wanting to do more. I then came to the realization that nursing will best suit my compassion. Working as a home health aide helped me realized that nursing is the only profession I want to pursue. As a result, I believe my interpersonal skills would enable me to be a competent and caring Nurse. As a nurse, I plan to provide excellent patient care by servicing my patients with compassion, respect, integrity and loyalty. For me, Nursing is not just another career; it is about compassion and helping people thrive through some of the toughest times in their lives. My greatest accomplishment thus far is being a wife and a mother. Being a mom entails a lot of endurance. Both motherhood and marriage have taught me so much about responsibility for someone other than myself. They give me a sense of
1.When I think of Nursing, I see it as part of the health care institution providing a venue through which people of social and personal conscious may engage humanity to effect positive, concrete, growth and change. There are many aspects to nursing which define and guide it. For me, I
My Values and Beliefs of Nursing I believe that nursing is focused on the holistic care of individuals and their families in order to achieve and maintain an optimal level of health, a great quality of life, and comfort. This is done through promoting healthy living, providing a safe environment, preventing illness, and caring for the individual
Nursing is the act of fulfilling a patient's self-care deficit or providing care that they cannot do for themselves. I believe nursing requires a heart for caring for others. You are required to care for people at their lowest point and they will not always be kind
The role of a nurse is to be the first person you see when you walk into a hospital and the last person you see when you walk out. Nurses spend the most time with patients, they are the patient advocates, they educate the patient, monitor patient health, administer medication, and coordinate patient care. However, nurses are still not getting the recognition
It is the person and their physical, emotional, and psychological needs that are the basic focus of nursing’s attention. In order to care for a patient, the nurse must incorporate all these needs. For example, providing reassurance with an anxious patient who just finished hip surgery. Care also plays a major part when taking care of a unique patient. Caring influences my personal philosophy because it is the most important aspect of nursing.
My interest in the nursing profession was not made conscious until I realized that inherently, I am a caregiver. Taking care of someone feels as if it is second nature to me. Being so, I found a passion for assisting others in a professional environment. I became interested in nursing because as a nurse, I will be able to holistically care for patients and their families at their most vulnerable moments and ensure the highest quality of care because I will be the one delivering it.
Being a nurse is not always as easy and picture perfect as people paint it to be. A nurse is expected to act perfectly professional, even when tears, anger and all-around emotions are begging to come out. A nurse must always be the one that has their life together, especially when others do not. They are there to be the ones to hold and care for others in desperate times of need. Nurses are expected to be more than just a nurse, but rather an advocate, caregiver, support system and professional.
What does nursing mean to me? Nursing means helping people heal, meeting their needs while they are in your care, listening to concerns, protecting them from harm, and educating them how to care for themselves while treating them with dignity, compassion and respect and giving of yourself to the care of people and community. It is having compassion for people and their health and being a humanitarian, making sure they receive the best care possible. Nurses must also treat families of patients with kindness, realizing they are going through a stressful situation also. Nursing is a responsibility to provide the best care regardless of the patient’s age, race, religion, sex, disability, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or their past.
Every nursing value is important to have but without the want and heart to care for your patients then you will not have the other ones. Caring is a base value in which all the other values build from. Nursing is a difficult profession and is not always enjoyable from the perspective of others but when a nurse cares for their patient it makes it that much easier. Knowing the work you do can impact so many lives of patients and the patients’ families makes it all worth it. Maya Angelou once said, “As a nurse we have the opportunity to heal the mind, soul, heart, and body of our patients.
Nursing is a profession that requires an immense amount of knowledge and integrity. Throughout my childhood and half of my college career, I viewed myself in the nursing profession. There were no other jobs on my mind but nursing. Nurses have the passion and capability to help those in need, which is what initially attracted me to the job. It wasn’t until my practicum that I realized I didn’t want to work directly with the patients. After my revelation, I searched for a profession that was in the public health field, had an amazing job outlook, and a job that allows you to provide quality patient health care without having to work directly with them.
