Throughout this course of four weeks, my perspective of child development has changed drastically in this short amount of time. This was my first class that was related to child development and there was a lot of material that was important to learn and understand. I came to this class with not much knowledge, but I am definitely leaving this class with an abundance of information that I will be able to use in my career or just in general. Discontinuous Within the process of child development, my view is based upon that is children are constantly growing through stages which is a discontinuous process. It is important to note that by the time child is three years old, their brain has been 90% developed, which is quite mind blowing. Therefore it is important to create a positive environment so the child’s brain is enriched with great information. An example is a child needs to be fed with nutritional food with the proper mix of vitamins and protein because failure to do so “can have effects lasting far past the early years in areas as diverse as cognitive development, physical health, work capacity, and earning power” (Martorell, 2013, pg. 86). If a child is born in poverty, they may not have the same nutritional value as a child born in an economically stable atmosphere. This could also include how involved the parents are in the child's life and whether they provide a lot of human contact, speak fluently or providing comfort. These theories really expanded and informed me about child development because it dealt with the child’s thinking process as well as how they progress in life. Jean Piaget viewed child development on their efforts and how they acted upon it which geared towards conginite development. It consisted of four stages: sensorimotor,preoperational, concrete operational, and formal operational. His idea of adoption correlates with my perspective because it is impressive to see how the child adapts to certain information.
