CALELAO, Kyla Ellen, M. SURVIVING THE CYNICAL EFFECT OF GLOBALIZATION IN THE COUNTRY “We were all humans until, race disconnected us, religion separated us, politics divided us, and wealth classified us.” Despite of the great impact of it in the advancement of our country, globalization has been threatening our lives and the worst thing is that we, Filipinos, are not aware of this threat brought by the phenomenon. The widening of the gap between the rich and poor people, a result of globalization, puts the Philippines deeper in the quicksand of poverty and also causes social injustices among men. The deprivation of jobs and resources from its own citizens causes the people to die unattended. The possibilities of the widespread of diseases …show more content…
The universal human rights are so important in the country because Philippines is not an enlightened world where people love and trust each other. The Declaration of Universal Human Rights is an agreement that defines what human rights of all people are and as human beings, we are supposed to make them a reality - not a dream. The only problem today is that they are not widely promoted and taught as they should be at schools and by government. The universal human rights must be promoted and known in order for us to defend ourselves from violence, and also in order for those cruel rulers of the state to realize we have such things as universal human rights, that they and those oppressed are both humans and both have human dignity- therefore, both must be respected …show more content…
For Aristotle, happiness is the end and purpose of human existence. To pursue happiness is to go for telos. Happiness is neither pleasure nor virtue, but an exercise of virtue. Happiness cannot be achieved until the end of one’s life. Hence, it is a goal not a temporary state. The pursuit of happiness has been equated with the exercise of virtue, and virtue is to moral character. I suggest the emphasiz-ation of the pursuit of happiness as an obligation of man since Filipinos are easily motivated with the use of consequences, because the only way to achieve happiness is to act with virtue, they will act morally otherwise, they will die without achieving happiness which is the ultimate goal in the life of a human person. The pursuit of happiness will push the Filipino people towards virtue. For instance, Binay wants to be the DILG cabinet secretary in order for his name to be known all over the Philippines in preparation in the incoming 2016 election. However, the purpose of Binay to run in position is to steal the money of the country, and we all know that stealing money from the Filipino people will lead to various problems such as poverty and hunger which may result to death. Based on Aristole’s, this is against the telos. Binay is not exercising virtue. If only the pursuit of happiness is introduced to Binay, there is a great possibilty that he will
There is but one race, and that is the human race.” In 500 words or less define what this quote means, describe how it epitomizes Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s vision, and explain how you personally incorporate these ideals into your everyday life.” “There is but one race, and that is the human race” This implies that all people should be treated the same no matter what color you are. King didn’t believe that humans were classified into groups based on physical traits, social groups, genetics etc. His vision shows that he wanted all of us to feel like we mattered.
The fact that happiness is a state of well-being pursued by humans since the beginning of humanity is not new. Since the ancient Greek philosophers, happiness has always been a goal for people. However, the definition of happiness is still subjective and controversial as Mark Kingwell, an award-winning social critic, essayist, and professor of philosophy at the University of Toronto, presents in his article “In pursuit of Happiness." The author begins to build his credibility by calling everyday facts and emotions, also by citing philosophers, researchers, and other authors. Using the sources effectively in a persuasive piece, Kingwell demonstrates, through examples and science researches, the difficulty in defining happiness, which can result in unhappiness.
In Aristotle’s Nicomachean Ethics, he describes his feeling and thoughts on pleasure; he discusses that pleasure is good and that the feeling of eudaimonia is connected to pleasure. Eudaimonia, also know as the term for happiness in Greek, means “a contented state of being happy and healthy and prosperous” (dictionary.com). Aristotle describes happiness as the main purpose of all human lives and that it is absolutely the essential goal for all humans. I disagree with Aristotle’s statement that a life of pleasure cannot be the best life because just because a person finds pleasure in different ventures other than being virtuous doesn’t make them an animalistic person.
Happiness is an emotion, which makes it subjective, so it is difficult to have a definite meaning for the word. Is happiness just the absence of a negative feeling or is it the feeling of fulfillment and joy? Depending on the person, the answer varies and different activities make different types of people happy. Furthermore, each individual is willing to sacrifice certain materials to bring them joy. Nevertheless, in general, as a society, people sacrifice certain things, like money and time, in order to “make them happy.”
Globalization is the inclusion of the differents values socio-cultural and economic local from one country to another, through their relationships exchanged a series of products and knowledge that extend and increase their ideological and economic situation. Globalization is beneficial for businesses of Colombians. As well as has influenced in areas as the social, economic, cultural, political, technological and educational in our country, globalization has ventured into the business of Colombians to favor or disfavor wholesale sales. Globalization has been a transition process started from the time of conquest and colonization, this exchange of cultural contracted a new market with mobility and trade of products and goods which over time did not stop there, but rather it was intensified and point greater flowed recognition from the
Aristotle’s Nicomachean Ethics begins by exploring ‘the good’. Book I argues that, unlike other goods, “happiness appears to be something complete and self-sufficient, and is, therefore, the end of actions” (10:1097b20-21). In other words, happiness is the ultimate good. But how does one achieve happiness? Aristotle formulates this in the context of work, since for all things, from artists to horses, “the good and the doing it well seem to be in the work” (10:1097b27-28).
Thus, when human function is done well, it is in accordance with virtue and best human life is achieved. In addition, it can be inferred that since Aristotle’s definition of happiness is to be virtuous, performing rational activity well can lead to happiness. In addition, Aristotle states, “if there are more than one virtue, in accordance with the best and most complete” (1098a18). This means that eventually there will be one virtue that is inclusive of all virtue and that displays an end, and this virtue will be in line with the self-sufficient and inclusive concept of happiness as the chief good. If this inclusive virtue and good is achieved, ultimate happiness will be achieved as well.
In Aristotle’s Nicomachean Ethics, the concept of happiness is introduced as the ultimate good one can achieve in life as well as the ultimate goal of human existence. As Aristotle goes on to further define happiness, one can see that his concept is much different from the 21st-century view. Aristotelian happiness can be achieved through choosing to live the contemplative life, which would naturally encompass moralistic virtue. This differs significantly from the modern view of happiness, which is heavily reliant on material goods. To a person in the 21st-century, happiness is simply an emotional byproduct one experiences as a result of acquiring material goods.
Happiness is all around you; it is not hard to seek because it is everywhere, but you can easily miss it if you don’t stop and enjoy it. The study of happiness goes back hundreds of years. Socrates studied it and discovered that through human effort happiness is attainable and teachable. Also, if the soul learns to redirect from physical pleasures to virtue, then it helps lead a person down the road to true happiness.
For instance, one might go to college with the telos of bettering their future. When Aristotle identifies happiness as the highest goal, he is claiming that happiness is the ultimate telos of any action. We might understand this idea of an ultimate telos by imagining the child who constantly asks, “why?” : “Why are you going to college?” “To become a dental hygienist.”
INTRODUCTION We belong in a time where the world goes through constant changes. Life today is so fast-paced and dynamic that we sometimes knowingly ignore what 's happening around us since it may instantly change anyway. The Philippines specifically, have gone through great changes in the past several years. These changes have rooted from problems that made it impossible for us to develop and progress as a country.
In other word, a goal with lower priority can be a method to achieve a goal with higher priority. In Aristotle’s viewpoint, happiness means the supreme good among other virtues, being the ultimate goal that human-beings pursue. Hence happiness cannot be an optional
: Definition of happiness is different from person to person. Happiness is a inner feelings or emotions of the person.
