The change in curriculum to better educate students has left out the human side of medicine, which was present when mothers taught their daughters how to help their families. It has been replaced with unequal treatment of patients, lack of nutritional health, and lack of teamwork between nurses. Education has always matched the needs of society, but now, what they teach is not that relevant to real life. Works Cited Ofri, Danielle. "
Through this program I hope to learn the fundamentals of community based research, how to advocate for health policy, a most importantly how to educate communities on health. I believe that is the most rewarding thing I can get out of this program. Having the ability, the power, to change someone’s life, by just giving him or her basic health care knowledge is so empowering. Knowing that I changed that life, that because of me hopefully their health will better instead of worsen. Through this program I hope to learn from the community, to learn their experiences, which will allow me to be even more conscious of the disparities they are forced to face, hence causing me to ponder “how can this issue be fixed?”, “what policy can be implemented”?.

Sports Medicine epitomizes the best my school has to offer. I am fortunate to attend a school that offers extra medical focused courses as my goal is a career as a physician. This course positively influenced me and has opened my eyes and mind to a wider range of options for a career path. The instructor offered pragmatic curriculum, which allowed me to gain greater insight into my own abilities and desires. Originally I anticipated a career in radiology as I did not want to tell a patient they may die.
What an Anesthesiologist Is An anesthesiologist is, as defined by Mosby’s Dictionary of Medicine, is “a physician who completes an accredited residency program in anesthesiology. Anesthesiologists may administer anesthesia directly or as part of an anesthesia team consisting of nurse anesthetists or anesthesiologist's assistants.” These physicians, however, have not been around since the beginning of surgery. Surgery back then was painful for the patient and more stressful for the doctor because with the patient aware the doctor had to be extra careful of every single move; because of the discomfort caused by a patient and stress that built by operators, anesthesiologists emerged and became a vital necessity in the medical field. If they had not existed, surgery would still be primitive and excruciating.

In order to develop my interest and knowledge of modern medicine, I have taken interdisciplinary coursework that has exposed me to various scientific disciplines that have real-world clinical applications. An example of this is my experience taking the course Human Anatomy and Physiology. Although it isn’t a course required to be taken by the vast majority of medical schools, I decided to take to gain a better understanding of the human body, discover body systems that I found particularly interesting and could pursue research or a specialization in. Through this course, I have been able to learn so much outside of just the human body, as we explored different challenges being faced in the current U.S. healthcare system and disparities experienced by various demographics of people. Outside of coursework, I have dedicated time as officer of an organization called Access Redefined that advocates and raises awareness for various health conditions and disabilities experienced by my college’s diverse student body.
The first section is about the introduction of my speech. The specific purpose and central idea in my speech were clear. I would say I gained most of my audience’s attention in the introduction and that it was effective. My attention getter does orient the audience to my topic. I think it snagged most people’s attention and did motivate my audience to listen.
The STEM classes at Loyola such as Human Anatomy & Physiology and Chemistry for Health Professionals will help me utilize science as I prepare for a career where understanding the human body and how it functions are critical to developing treatments, and recognize illness and injury. In my junior year Advanced Studies Medical Biochemistry class, I learned how the body processes opioid analgesics and other NSAID medications on a deeper molecular level. This has helped me understand my own body even more clearly. When I take Advil for a sports injury, I now have a mental image of how my body is breaking down the Ibuprofen to be used effectively and target the affected area. Additionally, understanding how the different pathways of pain receptors affect what medications will function has helped me become more aware of prescription alternatives.
