Change agents are aware of the needs of the environment, need to upgrading nursing practice, and recognizing that change comes hard for people.
Change agents are nurse leaders that inspire nurses to incorporate clinical change into their work environment through communication and education (Laureate Education, Inc., 2012e). Therefore, nursing, IT is not the only change taking place, but a change in clinical changes occurring at the same time. For example, Roy Simpson discusses that there are many 1000 of nomenclature that describe diseases, medication dosages, colors of infectious blood, mucus and tissue. Using IT to reduce the number of descriptions are taking place during the same time implementation and other task occurring in the nursing unit.
Challenges Experienced during an Informatics
The American Reinvestment and Recovery Act laid out the groundwork for a program designed to equip hospitals and medical practices around the country with electronic health record systems by providing financial incentives (p. 245). However, in some markets such as long-term care facilities the transition to electronic system has been slow. Professional nurses whose careers are in long-term care in our nation will play major role in getting electronic health systems into these settings. It will take nurse advocating for these systems and continuation of research showing evidence that supports widespread adaptation of these systems, but nurse united under one cause, best practice can make anything happen.
The final and the important step of Kotter’s change process is to institutionalize the new approach, and establish the new change as an organizational culture (Gaudine & Lamb,2015). Workaround is another big barrier which occurs when nurses pass the medication without scanning the medication and the patient’s identification (ID) band, to save time and scan them later. The first outcome means the ability to gather healthcare information across the continuum of care; combine and utilize the information gathered to develop a process. The Complexity Adaptive System (CAS) is a system that can adapt to an ever-changing environment.
