In creating this portfolio, I am inclined to maintain a professional e-handbook, so to speak, of my educational and professional accomplishments over the years that reflect growth and development in my quest to be a competent nurse. Creating an e-portfolio allows for the safe documentation and archiving of my information that potential employers can have easy access to when I am in the process of seeking employment opportunities. Having an e-portfolio is a more efficient and effective way of utilizing technology to be more organized in keeping track of important information that could otherwise get lost or destroyed due to adverse events such as floods or fires. I am currently a working Registered Nurse at a long-term care facility in New Jersey and a student in the Bachelors of Science in Nursing online program at Thomas …show more content…
My interests in these two areas stem from the fact that I have worked in homecare before becoming a nurse and have seen how disenfranchised the elderly population can be. I hope to be one of the voices that can further advocate for them. I am from an island where healthcare is deficient in many areas due to the lack of medical manpower and supplies available which often lead to serious consequences. There are many areas like this around the world that could benefit from competent nursing practices. In addition to providing my services as a nurse, I am very dedicated to my immediate family, which consists of myself, my husband, and two sons. They have been very supportive of my endeavors to become a nurse and continue to support my continued efforts to further excel to my highest ability. In my down time, I like to visit museums and am an avid reader. I also have a passion for cooking, baking and can always be found in the kitchen creating something new for my family and friends to

I am driven and determined to have a career in nursing by becoming a student at NYU College of Nursing. My main source of inspiration to become a nurse comes from a deep desire to help people. Nurses have the ability to see people at their worst, while helping them become their best. This is the most rewarding experience and an experience that I want to obtain. Being a trilingual nursing student, I would love to use the skills I acquired in nursing to help the immigration population of NYC and translate for patients with language
My passion for nursing practice defies description; leading to the reason I am opting to pursue a higher level of education in nursing. The George Washington University School of nursing has one of the highly ranked master’s programs in the country, which offers a competitive curriculum and highly defined leadership skills that integrates technology into learning. It is therefore my desire to pursue an advance education at this facility because it prepares practitioners to become great clinicians ready to solve real-world clinical problems. Moreover, the opportunity to pursue a degree in this facility will afford me the ability to be a competent and highly efficient family nurse practitioner; that will serve the community and mostly the underserved. I am the last child in a family of eight that has aspired to pursue my education at the graduate level.
My Intent to Be a Nurse Practitioner Coming from a third world country where there aren’t many opportunities for work and funding for education, proceding to nursing school was a grand opportunity. The privilege to attend a government subsidized school where top students in the region compete to get into the program that allowed only 60 students per year was indeed a blessing. As clinical rotations began, what was once considered a mere opportunity evolved into a true passion for caring as I truly love and enjoy nursing and helping people.
I have decided to pursue nursing and apply for the second degree accelerated nursing program; I consider myself a highly motivated individual with a value of strong work ethic. I can certainly distinguish myself as a person with numerous interests, a range of skills and goals. My Goals are to become a highly skilled nurse, work for the united state military and help save lives. Just like my father, I would love to provide a great humanitarian service, not for the pay or the glory or the recognition but to save lives, give hope, provide care, love and touch
A practice placement portfolio is a collection of work by an individual which is used as evidence to show achievements and other learning that has taken place to enhance their professional development (Hayes E. 2013). It has an important role in the educational development of nursing students as it is a tool which can evaluate the student’s learning during the undergraduate programme and can act as a link between theory and practice (Jones E. 2010). It enables them to demonstrate the knowledge and skills they have developed throughout their training, as it makes them engage fully with their experiences from clinical practice which are valuable sources of learning (Joyce P. 2005, Ryan M. 2011). In the professional development of a qualified
In the healthcare field, there are so many occupations to choose from. Occupations and careers and important milestones in life because they not only define so much about you, but they set what you are going to do the rest of your life. The healthcare field is a field of high interest to many people. One occupation of great interest is a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). An LPN is someone who works under registered nurses or physicians and takes care of sick, injured, or disabled patients.
I am very interested in the position as a Registered Nurse for the Medical Oncology Infusion clinic available on the Memorial Hospital of Gulfport website. As a dedicated Registered Nurse with a 30-year span of experience, I believe I would be an asset for this position and the clinic team. My work experience includes Medical/Surgical nursing at acute care setting, a busy Ambulatory Clinic for three surgeons for two years, 10 years at Outpatient Surgery Center, three years as a Community Outreach Cancer nurse and much more. My skill sets are the strong ability to assess patients using the nursing process and principles, knowledge of the many procedures and protocols, proficient with using clinic equipment, multitasking to meet patients and family needs, to think critically during procedures and in emergencies, and interpreting and following instructions from the physicians.
Nurses (both Licensed Vocational Nurses and Registered Nurses) make up the largest part of the health care, and have greater opportunities practicing in different disciplines and departments. In Black’s Professional Nursing, he states, “the profession of nursing is more than ever requiring the education of well-trained, flexible, and knowledgeable nurses who can practice in today’s evolving health care environment.” (Black, 2017, p.1). There are different reasons that influenced my decision of seeking a Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN). Flash back to when I relocated to United States in 2011, my goal was getting into a pre-pharmacy program, then get into a pharmacy school.
I have a heart for service and a strong desire to make a difference in people’s lives. Becoming a nurse I will be able to fulfill my passion of making a positive impact on individual lives on a daily basis. I will be able to fulfill my nurturing and caring desires of helping others. I’m very passionate and fascinated with the medical field in all aspects. I strive for excellence, integrity and love interacting with all diversity of people.
This portfolio represents the professional and academical achievements of my educational career in the course over the years. It is the compilation of the hard work I have completed and my accomplishments that illustrate my strengths, problem-solving ability, work ethic, responsibility and moral and professional values. All of the education obtained during these years and the effort put in has given me the required knowledge, experience, values, professional behaviors, and ethical standards to make me a stronger and well prepared professional nurse. It has been a long journey since I started my nursing education becoming a CNA, nurse assistant, then a practical nurse LPN. Continuing with my education I became a registered nurse (RN) and now I am finishing my Bachelors of Science in Nursing.
I am a diligent, compassionate, and curious student. I love to challenge myself, set my goals high, and expand my knowledge. I am willing to be taught and to adapt quickly. I believe that I am ready to undergo an undergraduate study and pursue a professional nursing career for I have a passion for learning and caring for others; and I have done much research and observed nurses, which has led me to be certain of my decision for a career in nursing.
Personal Statement I am interested in studying for a degree in the Mental Health Nursing in your university, and I would like to make my career in this noble profession. I first considered nursing as a career some years ago, after I lost my father to a chronic kidney disease. The role played by the nurses in terms of care while he was in hospital and after his death was quite overwhelming. Although I had my first degree in Agricultural Economics, but this nothing in compare to the passion I later developed for nursing after the death of my father. I have since developed myself in health and social care sector by training and updating my skills.
I have unknowingly evolved into the nursing student and future registered nurse I want to become through my lived experiences; the interactions between patients and their family members, the nurses that I have worked hand in hand with, and the education I have received from my teachers, have individually helped me build my own personal set of values and beliefs to provide high-quality, patient-centered care to diverse populations with dedication and passion. To help patients meet their goals to bathe, eat, dress and be turned-what many take for granted- is emotionally rewarding and I am honored to have helped all of the patients I have helped the past three years as a hospital volunteer, clinical assistant, and a student nurse advancing in my career with a goal in becoming a registered nurse.
