“No two persons regard the world in exactly the same way…” was once said by J.W. Von Goethe. He meant every person views the world in their own special way. In the novel Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, the quote said by Goethe is present in this book. George and Lennie both have the same dreams but they see the world around them differently. The quotation is also present in the novel, The Pearl, also by John Steinbeck. Kino and his wife Juana see the world differently in reality but they also have a dream to better their lifestyle for their child. John uses characterization to display how “no two persons regard the world in exactly the same way…”
In Of Mice and Men, Steinbeck uses characterization by making George and Lennie best friends who are as close as brothers. But they are almost opposite of each other when it comes down to personality. George is a man who has his head screwed on right. He wants to hold a job to save money for him and Lennie’s dreams to come true. And Lennie is almost a child like when you tell a child not to touch the stove because it is hot and they touch it anyways after they are warned. Kino and Juana are married. Throughout the book their views on the world change. They both see the world alike in the beginning but as the book goes on their ideas change and become complete opposites. Kino thinks the world is in his hands as he becomes one of the most wanted men in Mexico. Juana, as his wife, sticks by his side but warns him that he has gone mad with fame. She was scared of him being killed because of all the evilness around him and the negativity that followed him. Kino was a new man and Juana was still the same women. As they saw the world changed they decided to whether change with it or to stay the same and watch it
