Overview: GBI, (2012), continues on explain how the Georgia Bureau of Investigation has many working parts. It is comprised of three main divisions and it continues to break down into smaller more specialized levels from there. However, as a whole, there is one main objective. Each of the Divisions all breaks down into father subdivisions within each organization. The Division of Forensic Sciences is broken down into eight specialized subdivisions with six regional labs. The eight specialized subdivisions within the Division of Forensic Sciences are Chemistry, Firearms, Forensic Biology, Implied Consent, Impressions, and Laboratory Support, Toxicology, and Trace Evidence. The six regional labs for the Division of Forensic Sciences are the Central Regional Lab, Coastal Regional Lab, Eastern Regional Lab, Northeastern Regional Lab, Southwestern Regional Lab, Headquarters, and the Western Regional Lab. The Medical Examiner’s Office also falls under the Division of Forensic Sciences (GBI, 2012). Georgia Crime Information Center is comprised of seven different subdivisions within the division as a whole. The six divisions are Information Technology and Security. In total there are fifteen regional offices for investigative GBI agents. At each office, there are two supervisors, one of them is Special Agent in Charge (SAC) and the other is an Assistant Special Agent in Charge (ASAC). When requested, these regional offices work felony criminal investigations. Additional to this, they investigate criminal violations by the state or its, departments, bureaus, and commission or authorities property (Regional Investigative Offices, 2012). Furthermore, Regional Investigative Offices (2012) explains that there are Regional Drug Enforcement Offices (RDEO) that operate separately than the fifteen regional offices. The RDEO focus not only on drug trafficking and other drug offenses, they also still serve as a request agency and give investigative assistance.
