My grandma sacrificed everything for my family and I. Being the lucky grandson I am I can tell my grandma about all my great adventures and achievements because she is still alive today at eighty-seven years old. My grandma is built solely on sweetness, there is no other way to describe her, when I was eight years old my family and I moved from Colorado Springs, Colorado to Madison, Wisconsin; my grandma was so afraid that she wouldn't be part of my siblings and I’s life that she dropped everything she had, left all her friends and moved to Madison with my family and I. When I think of my grandma short flashbacks will periodically pop into my head of going to the park or sleeping over at her house but every single time I will remember the times when we made chocolate cookies together or should I say cookie dough. …show more content…
Wakefield was mixing a batch of cookies from her roadside inn when she discovered that she was out of baker's chocolate. She substituted broken pieces of Nestle's semi-sweet chocolate, expecting it to melt and absorb into the dough to create chocolate cookies. In surprise this discovery made her one of the most famous women inventors during her time. (source) However, in the 1930s chocolate chip cookies were not called chocolate chip cookies rather “Toll House Crunch Cookies” (source); the chocolate chip cookie was the most popular variety of cookie in America, a distinction it still holds to this day. (source) Nevertheless, the “taste of rich Nestle Semi-Sweet Chocolate chip cookies” (source) reminds me of the day before every holiday when my brothers and I make chocolate chip cookies with my
She never graduated from the third grade. Yet she's managed to travel the world, raising 6 kids and 10 grand kids and many great-grand children. Not to mention she could make the best banana pudding. I've known my sweet granny all my life. She was a nurturing soul.
Another unfortunate circumstance is that my grandmother can’t remember many vivid things she did even with her own parents. Her parents, Gladys and Cecil Knight, raised her until the age of 10. Her father divorced her mother when my grandmother was only 9 years old. Being a single mother with many children, Gladys could not support her family and was forced to send her children to be raised by strong Christian foster parents Willis and Annie Adams. Only a few memories stuck with her over the years of her real parents, including her trips to Dairy Queen on the weekends and her father taking her to church when she was little.
Everyones favorite candy has always been chocolate it has been around for over thousands of years and it was changed when Milton S. Hershey started his company we all know and love ‘The Hershey Company’. ‘The Hershey’s Company’ has impacted the world, because they made the first affordable chocolate bar. First off chocolate has been around for thousands of years, but it was not truly effected until 1894 and that was when Milton S. Hershey started ‘The Hershey Company’. “The cacao tree was cultivated more than 3,000 years ago by the Maya, Toltec, and Aztec peoples, who prepared a beverage from its fruit, the cocoa bean (sometimes using it as a ceremonial drink) and also used the bean as a currency. The Maya considered chocolate to be the food of the gods, held the cacao tree to be sacred, and even buried dignitaries with bowls of the substance (along with other items deemed useful in the afterlife).”
On a cold and blustery November morning, I was walking around the Newberry farm searching for the perfect pumpkin. The farm owner, Mr. Johnson was welcoming and incredibly kind to allow me to wander wherever I wanted to on his farm. While walking, suddenly, I came upon the most perfectly shaped pumpkin. It was big and round and I knew it was Mr. Johnson’s best.
A concise representation of this is found when Jeannette remarks, (lead into the quotes could be a bit of contextual information---like what happened and why did it occur) “Brian yanked the covers back. Lying on the mattress next to Mom was one of those huge family-sized Hershey chocolate bars, the shiny silver wrapper pulled back and torn away. She’s already eaten half of it (208).” This excerpt appeals to the emotion anger, illustrating a mother who is watching her kids starve and yet selfishly keeps an enormous chocolate bar to herself. How could a mother possibly feed herself before her kids?
After marriage, my husband’s grandmother became gravely ill, and we went to visit her on her final day. Gramma opened her eyes, gazed at me then turned to my husband and said: “she
“Pizza, Sub Sandwiches, Hot Buffalo Wings, Fried Mozzarella Cheese Sticks, homemade Potato Chips, Mini Pigs in a Blanket, Spicy Cheese Fondue, chips and dip, different flavors of ice cream, and overly buttered popcorn to the romantic, comedy, and tear-jerking DVD movies we’re watching as we embarrass each other. Oh, but let’s not forget the chocolate. We’re going to have Chocolate Covered Marshmallows, Chocolate Covered Pretzels, Chocolate Covered Strawberries, Chocolate-covered Animal Crackers with Sprinkles, Chocolate Chip Cookie Brownies, Bon Bon’s, and assorted chocolate bars. And before you ask, everything I had just mentioned is being cooked by us.” “You know how to cook all those things?” asked the girl who father didn’t want her to go with them, clearly
I was constantly depressed, and crying myself to sleep knowing that I didn’t say goodbye to her, that she wouldn’t be there for my quinceanera. My grandmother was the person that influenced my parents into coming to America, and finding a future for me, a better education, and opportunities, things I would never achieve in Cuba. My mom would always tell me to study hard, and keep moving forward because my grandmother would always ask about me and how i’m doing in school, as well as to keep pursuing my dreams. At school I was able to focus on my work with the help of my friends.
Perfection Lies within Age In 1898, multiple baking companies within the United States merged together to aid in the formation of the company known as Nabisco. It is because of this blissful merger that possibly two of America’s greatest accomplishments have been discovered; which leads to the question of which of these delicious cookies is better, Oreo or Chips Ahoy? These succulent pleasures are manufactured by the same corporation, and display comparable features such as shape, packaging, and even some ingredients. However, it is the distinct characteristics of each brand that resolved the dispute over which cookie is America’s most wanted.
My favorite pecan fest experience was this year. That was when I over came my fear of the zipper. Yes I know what you’re thinking and yes I am a chicken. Why it took me long, because when I would look up at the zipper and hear people screaming as it viciously turn them upside down backward and forward.
Growing up with my grandma, there was never a day where I didn’t feel loved by her. When I would be over at her house, she always made sure I wasn’t hungry, and when I was, she went out of her way to cook for me. If we were out in the streets together, she would always ask me what I wanted to eat and got me exactly that. There was not a birthday I had, that she didn’t get me a present or a birthday card. Every valentines, she would give me a box of chocolates.
Grandma, there may be many sleepless nights I lay awake thinking about you, hard days where I want to see you, times I cry to you, pray to you at night, just for you to realize there wont go one day where I won 't think about you, won 't miss you like crazy. You’ve made these years of my life amazing grandma, it’s sad I won 't get to spend any more birthdays with you, or sit with you, but you”ll be above me, above all of us, doing what you always do.. And we love you, heaven gained the brightest angel yet, God knows what he 's doing Grandma, he will take care of you, and we won 't ever forget you.
It was just a pretty French delicacy; composed of two purple cookies and lavender filling. The first bite was heavenly. The lavender flavor exploded in my mouth and the cookie had a delightful crunchy top, but the inside was soft and moist. Who knew that at this exact moment this bite would spark a never ending macaron making obsession? A French macaron is a classic French confectionery composed of two cookie shells and a filling in-between; they come in all different colors and flavors.
We bought a package of the store’s brand of chocolate chip cookies. Then, we brought them home and shared them with the rest of my family. Each person received a plate of the three different cookies without knowing which cookie came from which store. They tasted each cookie and reflected on what they liked about it and what they thought could be better.
