I am Mica Herrin, a struggling college student from a provincial town in the middle of nowhere with a bank account that is composed mostly of some change I found in the fountain, but my lineage is a story that consists of much more. My family is vibrant and diverse, spanning across most of the west coast, the mid west, the south of the United States, as well as into northern Europe. We are a ragtag collection of farmers, intellectuals, artists, and creepy uncles all with our own unique tales of travel, wonder, and woe. My personal story begins in the Mobile Infirmary in Mobile, Alabama on July ninth, 1996. As the second child of Kevin and Darla Herrin, I spent the first three years of life in Mobile, Alabama before continuing my life journey to Dallas, Texas. My brother, Tyler, and I were curly headed children raised in the YMCA and rode our bikes around the stockyards getting into as much trouble as we possibly could. I lived in Texas until I was nine and then we moved …show more content…
He was born in Enid, Oklahoma as the youngest of five siblings. The Herrin family lived on an unsuccessful farm during the dust bowl. When both of his parents passed at an early age, all of the siblings loaded up on a truck and headed west to find work. The family worked many odd jobs along the way before living in Lake Mead, Nevada for a few years to work on the Hoover Dam. The Herrin family eventually settled in Kennewick, Washington, where John graduated high school. After school, John lied about his age and joined the military when he was seventeen. Most of his time at sea was spent in the Mediterranean, including Italy and Spain (John
John joined the Army in 1934, just years before World War II. Initially, his first impression of the military was no where close to his expectations, eventually guiding him towards a separate branch of service where he found his niche. John believed that he “wasn’t going to get into any outfit with standing orders to retreat. (He) was a fighting man. That was (his) path.

As a kid, I loved stories, hearing them, telling them. Since ours was an oral culture, stories were not written down. It took coming to this country for reading and writing to become allied in my mind with storytelling.” This was her way to express herself and others while sharing a wonderful yet dreadful time in history. The biographical lens focuses specifically on the author and the lives of the sisters.
Hi Vicki, A call was transferred to me earlier today and the person did not leave his area code. He was asking for Malpractice Insurance information for one of our attorneys. Do you by chance have his phone number? If he calls again, please let know and tell them I did not have the correct area code.

Mimi Goes to Harlem I was lying in a pool of blood. It was my own. Deep gashes on my face and neck were gurgling. The rhinestone collar I wore did little to protect me.
I was in an unfamiliar country and yet I’d never felt more at home. For that single week I spent in my country, I met cousins I didn’t know I had, I learned how to cook, and I learned to value the fact that the city always has electricity. I was also able to see where my parents had inherited the strength and resilience they so carefully taught me to have. They exhibited these qualities as I was growing up, when they struggled to pay bills and learn the American way of life. We didn’t know where our next meal was coming from, but, similar to my grandparents, their laughter never ceased and the sounds of merengue never died down.

Cuyahoga Falls is a modest suburb, home to 49,000 (93 percent of which are white). Ten, or so, main roads divide the northeast Ohioan town. Less trafficked roads with small and moderately sized homes branch off of these primary arteries. Then, there are the roads, the ones that are the side streets of the side streets, that hide within, tucked away from the busier activity of everyday life. Here, all commotion – the vrooming of cars, the roaring of trains, the blaring of Friday night high school football games – is muffled.

Growing up I never thought about my ancestors; the impact they have on my family history. There is few reason I never care about my family history. I survived my early life, which started out in the humblest of circumstances.
My writing of these incidents in this location, time, language, and manner, are solely credited to my family’s life-changing decision to travel to the unfamiliar land of America. This unforgettable experience signifies the detachment from my closest and most loved family, which I yearn to be with to this day. However, I can only remind myself that, perhaps, I am a better individual as a result of my journey across the globe, and that everything which occurs in life occurs for a
