In December of 2008, I completed a Certified Nursing Assistant and Patient Care Technician course at Pima Community College in Tucson, AZ. I applied for my CNA License after passing my exam but, was denied at that time. The state board stated that not enough time after absolute discharge had passed for a 2001 felony conviction (I needed to wait 5 years after complete discharge and it had only been 4 years). Even though I did not get my CNA license at the time, I was still given a chance to work at a local hospital as a PCT, because a CNA license was not required for employment and I had already received my Level One Fingerprint Clearance card under the Good Cause Exemption from Arizona Department of Pubic Safety. I have learned that given the opportunity, I can change my life and set amazing goals to achieve. Although there are things I will never be able to change, it should not and will not define the person I truly am and strive to be. This has fueled me to reach for and realize the next bright moments that are yet to come through hard work. I take wanting to be a Registered Nurse very serious and am working extremely hard to reach my goals. However, one of my first goals years ago was to get a CNA license. So I reapplied after adequate time had pasted and on May 14, 2015 I went before the Arizona Board of Nursing and was granted my license (CNA LIC#100046606). They have also cleared me to take the NCLEX exam and upon passing, I will receive my RN license. I am exceedingly looking forward to continuing my education and being one of the compassionate, loving, caring and well-respected registered nurses. I have included copies of some letters of recommendation that were written to the university from my current employer as to my character, dedication and passion. I am asking the committee to please reconsider my request and allow me to continue my education with Grand Canyon University and to be part of the caregiving community in New
When I picture myself, I have faced many challenges in my life and realized how much i’ve grown and changed from them, just in the last year. The most important challenge that I am proud of myself for accomplishing is becoming a Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA). Obtaining this certificate was a huge step in my life from childhood to adulthood. I became an LNA because my mother encouraged me to since she knew I always wanted to be a nurse ever since I was a child and I love helping other people out.
It was a difficult move for everyone, but through the move, we always had a plan, not always a good, well thought out plan but a plan. A week before the nursing program started she got a call telling her that someone dropped their place and she was the next one in line for the program, she made it. Through the program she always had a plan to get things done, we all did. I believe that with any want you can make it into a plan where you can achieve any of your wildest dreams. My mom graduated and became a Registered Nurse in 2012 and has been working her dream job for five years now, never have I been so happy and proud of my mom.
I started working in the health care field five years ago as a CNA. My goals have changed slightly as I have been in school. I now want to become a Nurse Practitioner. My plan is to finish at York County with a Health Studies Associate and then move onto my BSN than to an NP. The challenges I face while on this journey is exhaustion.
What makes you capable of being a nurse? I am capable of being a nurse because I have been a Certified Nurse Assistant for over ten years; I give not only the book knowledge, but a piece of my heart to each and every patient I care, always on the top of my game and make sure that my patients are clearly understood by everyone else C.N.A is very stressful job where traumatic situations are common. The ability to accept suffering and death without letting it get personal is crucial I gain all those experience by working over ten years as nurse assistant some days can seem like nonstop gloom and doom. I feel gratified going out into the world and serving others. Nursing is about universal care, getting to know your patients, and gaining their
I knew that I wanted to be a nurse but didn’t know what type of nursing I wanted to be until my friend got diagnosed with two brain tumors that are incurable. After seeing how she was taken care of made me decide I want to become a Pediatrician Nurse Practitioner.
After I was married and had a child ; I knew I needed a better job to be able to provide for my family. I decided to become a Certified Nurse Assistant with the persuasion from my sister; it was one of the hardest jobs ever, but so rewarding! I knew then and there I wanted to become a Nurse. I was hooked, I loved taking care of people and I felt the need and the pull to help others. I knew God had set the path for me, I just needed to follow it.
Lauren Brooksby is Resident Assistant for 2nd floor New Heritage building 29. Not only is she a beautiful person inside out but she is also a great RA- someone that us residents greatly respect and love.
I am in a point in my life where I am focusing on the development of my character in all aspects. I am doing as much as I can to develop professionally, mentally, and socially. Professionally, I am taking on as many leadership positions as I can on campus. I am the treasurer of three organizations, a peer mentor, and a Resident Assistant.
The renewal application must be submitted one year before the certification expire. The requirements for re-certification vary. If the certification credential is current, the nurse have two options. Both options require professional development and it is divided into six categories: continuing education hours, academic credits, presentations, publication or research, preceptor hours and professional service. One alternative is professional development and practice hours.
The first thing I would say about today was thought provoking. What I mean by that is it appears that everyone has different organizational skills. Plus not everyone thinks at the same speed or reacts in the same way. Anyways, I noticed throughout today that I was sometimes one step ahead of my nurse. I was even able to help him find different areas of the charting when he got confused, where something in particular was in the charting.
It all started when I made the choice to take CNA classes. CNA stands for certified nursing assistant. It is a class that you can take when you are in high school. It all started on the first day, I thought it was going to be amazing. Only did I find, there was much more to it than I thought and to not count my chickens before they hatch.
A lifetime goal is one that people work hard for and it is what keeps them motivated to succeed in life. For me that motivation is to become a nurse, it is my main objective and what I look forward to. I decided on this career at the end of my sophomore year in high school. Therefore, I knew that for the last two years I needed to take courses that would help me reach my dream. First, I enrolled in a AP Psychology class because I know that a nurse has to comprehend what the patient is going through in order to service them in a good way.
I will never forget the day when I was a little girl seeing my mom unconscious from low-blood sugar with nurses and ambulances swarming around her. I didn't realize how important their jobs were until I saw them tending to my mom and slowly bringing her back to consciousness. I am very grateful for nurses because without them, my mom would not be here today. They have inspired me to make a difference for others just like they did for my mom. This memory has affected the critical decisions that will alter the path of my life in the future.
Although I have faced many obstacles in my life, I am fully motivated to reach my career goal of being a nurse. My life has been a struggle at times, but my hard work, determination, and enthusiasm for my education and my community have brought me to where I can pursue my dreams.
“Are you ready to play doctor?” This is the question I always used to ask my brothers. I vividly remember asking that question consistently at an early age. Playing doctor allowed me to express my desire to help people as I was always taught there was value in helping others. My love of the medical profession stems from my mother who used to read to me about how African-Americans who have contributed to many technological advances in the medical field.
