Growing up in the small town of Clarksville, TN my whole life, I never had to be the new girl at school. I went to high school with the same kids I went to pre-k with, up until my junior year. One afternoon, I heard about a new opportunity for me- Middle College at Austin Peay State University. Getting into Middle College was no easy task, but I took the chance. I filled out the application to get accepted and the same day I got called for an interview. Once I got past the interview, I had to go on campus and take a test to make sure I was going to be able to handle college classes and this program. After going through all this, I received a packet in the mail letting me know I got accepted. While all my friends were upset I was leaving and claimed that I was "missing out on the high school experience" I knew that going to Middle College would only lead me closer to success. I started my first day at Middle College and I knew no one. At first, it was a little bit uncomfortable, but I knew if I wanted to get to know the other students I would have to put myself out there. Middle College is very diverse and that made getting to know everyone interesting. In Middle College, you're not just with high school students, though. You're not only mixed with all the college kids on campus, but in …show more content…
I have grown up and matured in more ways than one since my first day. I have learned everything between new study habits, learning to get to school early so you can park without being late to class, and how to conduct myself in a college atmosphere. I learned that taking that extra step is always necessary and sometimes you need to make sacrifices. While some might say I gave up the "high school experience", I would make this choice again because it helped mold me into the person I am today and is guiding me in the right direction to a prosperous
Out of the various ways to represent Georgia Southern University, becoming an Honors Ambassador has been one of the most interesting opportunities I 've heard of since my start as a student. Not only would it fulfill my experiential learning requirement, but it would help by building onto my essential communication and public speaking skills which are a necessity to succeed in today 's society. This opportunity also opens up a variety of work and volunteer experiences which could connect me with other Honors students and staff. Also, before attending Georgia Southern, I was clueless of the realities I was about to face as an incoming freshman.
I am first generation college student. I started Florida Gulf Coast University four years after I migrated from Jamaica along with my Dad, in pursuits of “an opportunity”- something that is very scarce outside of the continental United States. Before coming to FGCU, I went to Miramar High School; I graduated with honors and promised my Dad that within four years I would bring home my bachelors degree in Finance. August 14th, 2013 marked move in day at Florida Gulf Coast University. My first few weeks at Florida Gulf Coast University introduced me to the dreariest days and nights of my life.
I remember finding out that NC State had a summer reading book and thinking that it sounded a lot like a high school English class. I dreaded even picking up the book, so i kept making excuses and putting off reading it. August rolled around, and move-in day was quickly approaching, so I decided to take my dog to the beach one evening and read until the sun went down. The book followed the author's prodigious journey to save one mountain near his house and the Appalachian Trail. With every flip of a page I felt like there was an underlying message that was meant for me.
My grandfather, mother, and entire family were raised in Bellingham, Washington as was I. I can’t imagine going to any other school than Western Washington University. This past year has been a whirlwind. I had to decide which schools to apply to, take many tests, finish up a senior project, found a new passion, and lost someone close to me. I now realize that the only school I want to go to is Western. A few weeks ago I went to tour a few colleges in Eastern Washington.
It all began after my first semester here at A&M. I was somewhat disappointed because I had hoped to meet lots of new people and make new friends but that wasn’t exactly the case. You hear how people make some of their truest and lifelong friends in college however, after my first semester I still didn’t have any friends here. It was hard because I moved here from Idaho so I was completely starting over and also because I was fairly shy. So here was my first summer in Texas
Transitioning from high school to Middle College requires a surplus of mental strength. In order to successfully transition to Middle College I had stop relying on others and become independent. At first, the thought of leaving my friends and being alone in a new school on a college campus, filled with many students is considered immensely frightening. However, I was
I would like to be the student speaker because Washtenaw has changed my life in a significant way. I have learned countless life skills from going to school at Washtenaw Community College. By going here, I have gained the confidence needed to move forward in my life. I came to WCC as a high school dropout, with a G.E.D. I dropped out of high school at 9th grade to help provide for my family. My mother was in jail for a drunk driving offense and my father wasn’t around.
For many adolescents entering middle school is an overwhelming and anxious experience. It's a time of transition and offers a whole new learning experience that is very different from elementary school. Students are used to being with the same students and one main teacher throughout the day in a self contained classroom. The elementary teachers get to know the students very well and a safe and comfortable
So, for about two years, I attended Eden Grove middle school. This was an all guys school where I felt much more confident with the people I was surrounded by. It brought me to become a stronger individual. I have overcome my shyness and my personality has developed with much more confidence. Having been that I was so shy is definitely something that I would
The transition from high school can be very difficult. Going from knowing everything about a school, its programs as well as surroundings to not knowing anything basically is a huge change. Meeting new friends and connections in the area could be the most difficult of all. One of the most important things that I have learned since being here is finding you "niche" here at the University. Being successful in class and also out of class is the main objective in college.
My mother entered my bedroom and immediately her face widened in absolute shock. “What did you do?” I froze, panicked. I had been discovered. Twelve-year-old me was sitting on the bedroom floor when she had come in.
Next year at Embry-Riddle I plan start studying Cyber Intelligence and Security. Ever since middle school I knew I had a developing interest in the field of computer science and spent most of my time building the skills to excel in my classes. One of the first projects I got to use the computer on was a video for the Oregon Trail. I decided that it would be best to design an advertisement to showcase the facts in a new and creative way. When my group turned the project in, and it was shown to the class my teacher rewrote the assignment according to what we did and used it as an example of great work when recruiting new people.
Imagine that you have just graduated high school. You are more full of life, enthusiasm, and energy than you have ever been. Your four years of hard work have finally paid off, and now it is time for the next step. According to your parents, teachers, and just about every other authority figure in your life, college is that step. However, what if that did not have to be so?
My first day of high school as a freshmen in a new level of education Is what I was thinking when I woke from slumber that morning in bed. Stepping foot on the campus wasn’t even the beginning, taking the school bus in the morning is where the first taste of being a freshmen and actually starting and being an high school student. I started to get really nervous and a sense of reality hit me. Walking towards the bus stop all I see is a huge group of high school students waiting around for the bus, calm and cool as I try to stay to be I approach the waiting area not knowing what to I’m getting into.
And also I was very surprise that the people here are very friendly and welcoming at least at the school I went to the students were very kind and helpful. But when I went to High school my perspective about school changed a lot and dealing with people. When I went to High School I was very excited to be finally in freshmen high school and to be in a big school. My freshmen year was very easy and fun, I met a lot of
