I came into the Zesto’s store, hair all over the place, bags around my shoulders, excited to tell my mom about my trip. Nothing like this has ever happened to me before. So much excitement, thrill, and determination out of almost everyone on the trip. This is one trip that I will never forget because of the laughs with friends and the surprise storm on our last night. Going into my 8th grade year, my youth group started the first annual canoeing trip for middle schoolers. My youth leader, Chuck, wanted to do something fun with us middle school kids so he came up with canoeing. We were originally going to canoe down the Niobrara River in Nebraska, but there were wildfires out there at that time, so we traveled up to Decorah instead. On the trip, there were only six girls that went, so we all rode in one car on the way up. Of course, we were being silly the whole ride and our driver, who was a guy, probably hated us. Because he probably hated us, the AC was on the whole ride, which was like 4-5 …show more content…
We fell asleep with no troubles. During the night, Anna’s mom woke us up because it was raining outside and she needed our help closing the windows of the tent that we had opened. We started to close them when all of a sudden the wind picked up ferociously. All of our clothes were outside on a clothesline to dry, so many of us were worrying that our stuff would get blown away, but none of us wanted go outside. We said the guys would get our stuff. Then we heard a crack, and our tent began to fall on us. Screaming, we all ran to the corner of the tent to hold it up. The wind was not letting up at that time, so it was a major struggle to keep the tent up, and it also didn’t help that our arms were tired from canoeing. It felt like were holding up the tent forever, but it was maybe like fifteen minutes. The rest of the night, our tent had to be hooked up to Chuck’s car so it could stay
Grace and I were breathing in her sweater and rolled all the windows down and the top roof window. Anyway…. We got the gas, life vest, the cooler, and most important thing of all the ………... FOOD. When we got everything from the car to take to the boat there was a surprise for us.
In the mid 1930’s a young child was watching the “black blizzard” rolling in over the plains. The child was very aware and scared. The child shouted “ma, dad take cover!” and the child parents rushed to get the wet cloths to put on their faces during the storm and they huddle in the middle of the room to take cover.
A gust of wind pushed up against treeline, sending twigs, leaves, and branches flying. The rain was coming down in sheets, making it nearly impossible to see. Three men took shelter behind whatever they could from the element: rocks, trees, and sometimes each other to avoid debris and rain. The three aimlessly walked, trying to find anything that could lead them back to their path. Everyone pointed fingers and blamed the other two, criticizing everyone and everything but themselves.
Finally, the adventure began! Putting up the tent took about an hour since we kept on putting the poles into the wrong hole. After that stressful experience came the fun part. It was time to take the canoe for a ride into the water.
Mackinac Island. Never thought I would be here, but I was, FOR REAL! We got off the boat and waited for our bikes to come out of the boat. We got our bikes and started our route around the island. We rode about half a mile, when my cousin Andie said she had to go to the bathroom.
Again….. I was wrong because it didn't do anything besides make us feel sick. The van had a working air conditioner, but we were sweating even with it on because we were all packed tight and frightened that our lives were going to end right there. Finally, after what seemed like days of sitting on this mountain in the middle of a foreign country, we made it to our first destination of
Their clothes were ripped up, their food was all gone and their tent had a big whole in the front of it. The family was so sad. They had no choice but to go
It was a hectic day. My friend had to call and have his grandparents pick him up which took about 45 minutes because they lived kind of far away. During that time, my dad told me “pack your bags, we need to go visit your grandmother” I remember that I didn’t pack much because I couldn’t think. My mom immediately booked us plane tickets to Portland. It was super close but we made the flight.
It was a warm and windy morning in the month of June 2007. I was 7 years old and my family planned a big trip to go to Hershey park. I was so excited it made me want to scream at the top of my lungs. But I didn’t. This trip was going to be the best trip of the summer.
The first time I went kayaking was a great adventure that ended up helping me. My two friends, Phil, and Bob, went on a kayaking trip to the Holston River. When they retuned they told me all about what they did and the amazing time that they had. I was so engrossed by their incredible story that I couldn’t wait to try it out myself. Little did I know what an amazing experience it would be.
This tree house was not properly built and would clasps at any minute. Clayton, Logan, and Elizabeth wouldn’t let anything bad happen to Ben though. The event happened something like this, “Beth watched Keith and Logan struggle just before the remaining ropes attached to the central landing snapped. Across the creek, Beth saw that Ben was sill clinging to the rope attached to the central landing” (Sparks 320). The horror was unimaginable.
We splashed through puddles and now our destination was in sight. I hauled my bike, with my drooping arms and almost fell over a curb. Under a small porch in the back of a store next to Houseman’s, I pulled my bike under the overhang so the bike wouldn’t rust. Everyone else did the same. We would have hurried to the counter if we were dry, but everyone was soaked and we just walked, not even caring that the downpour was covering us head to toe with water.
Why? Why? The voices screamed in his head and he needed a way out. He needed to figure out something to fix it, but how?
They just had to leave a little earlier. So we just waited in a parking lot until they
But, I had to stay strong. It was almost like the storm got more humongous with the more victims that it consumed. The monstrosity chased them down and they gobbled them up. I was miserable because of it. I also knew that there wasn’t going to be anything left for us here in Willowdale Meadows.
