Personal Statement for NQT Year

I have been lucky enough to have been taught by some truly inspirational teachers and am aware of the effect they have had on my life and the choices I have made subsequently. My own passion for working with young children extends from my desire to emulate these role models and perform the same inspirational function in the lives of my students.

I have always enjoyed being around young people and have supplemented my interests in primary teaching with as much work experience as possible. I completed my PGCE Education course and qualified in 2006. Due to personal circumstances, I did not take my skills tests, I am still eligible to take them & will attain QTS status by June.

In my professional studies assignment, I examined research on the effectiveness on teaching assistants. As a parent the support my son has had from teaching assistants has been extremely positive. He was during primary school, three years behind his peers in Year 2, however by Year 6 he gained a Level 5 in both Maths and Science and Level 4 In English. I also observed during my teaching practices, teaching assistants deployed in several effective ways, such as helping in managing behaviour; making notes and observations about children to aid report writing. Supporting lower ability and EAL children during mental and oral starters; giving assistance in independent work and providing further explanation and visual aids to support understanding. Through the course of his treatments and convalescence I have learned that listening and the understanding of the condition, greater outweighs the physical act of recovery. This has provided me with the skills to become a more confident, care-provider and teacher to make any child succeed.

Currently I am undergoing training to become a Friendship Volunteer for Independent Age. Again, this I hope underlines qualities that I have. I also possess excellent communication skills, I am a good listener and I can understand and share the feelings of others. All skills apart from the academic ones which are important to being a good teacher and demonstrates my willingness to go the extra mile.
Studying and working in education has shown me that it is a challenging and rewarding career, but I believe my track record of dedication and hard work in both elements suggests that I can meet its demands.
