My family has always encouraged every aspect of my life. They inspire me to excel academically and to broaden my interests so I may determine the activities and goals I wish to conquer. Moreover, they are the advocates for me to always strive to become a better person. Academically, the high school I attend has a ratio of eleven students to one teacher and class sizes ranging from 10 to 25 students. This proportion allowed me to become close to my teachers and to engage in my specific aptitudes. For example, during my computer science class, my teacher would go to each student for five minutes a day and help them through any developmental problems they had in relation to the assigned task. This allowed for me to become extremely close to this teacher over three years of having him. Knowing that I was in an environment that wanted me to prosper, allowed me to find the field I was interested and obtain knowledge that would aid me in courses in my upcoming years in college. …show more content…
Working lengthy hours to suffice their children’s needs, showed me that they truly want us to achieve our goals. From the countless stories my mother has told me about her extremely rigorous lifestyle in India, attending school for over eight hours a day, and doing homework all night has taught me to appreciate the educational standards in America and to use this fortunate opportunity to gain knowledge in a vast variety of topics. This has urged me to take rigorous classes throughout my high school career such as AP Computer Science, AP Psychology, and AP Calculus AB. Personally, my parents have taught me to be moral and upright and to take care of family and
They instilled in my brain that education is the key for success and happiness, which has always made me try my best in all of my educational pursuits. I do this not only to show appreciation for what my parents have done for me, but for my own sake as well. I am fully aware that there are countless people all over the world that would give anything just to be able to be apart of this country. This gives me the motivation to always push myself to achieve the highest education possible and to go above and beyond to make something out of my
My family has always been the center of my universe. They’ve taught me the importance of being united and taking care of one another—because in the end, all we truly have is each other. My parents have raised me to be a good daughter, sister, and citizen. They’ve shaped me to be respectful, responsible, and virtuous, knowing these values will last a lifetime. But above all, my parents have instilled in me an appreciation and eagerness for education.
Now that I am older, I understand the hard work my parents do in order to make ends meet. Through my experience, I have become a resilient individual. I have gained many experiences that have taught me the qualities of being determined and unafraid. When I reflect on myself about my journey to a good education, I focus on the sacrifices my family
Because they came from humble beginnings, my parents taught me and brother to respect but not worship money, to be generous to those who are not as fortunate, and to work hard and earnestly for the things that we want. My high school education has positively affected my career and life choices. During these four years, I have had, in my opinion, some of the best teachers in the entire Lamar Consolidated district. My teachers have pushed me to achieve my dreams with high expectations and interesting and useful lessons and without their presence in my life, I would not have achieved all that I have now. My grandmother’s stroke was the catalyst and along with these four years and especially my science and math courses have lead me into a career in medicine and
My parents didn't have the opportunities that we have. Both my parents had to quit school at a young age, they had to find a job and help my grandparents pay for bills. My mom wanted to have an education she wanted her diploma but she wasn't able to achieve that goal. To her and my father is important for us to get an education for us to finish high school and go to college because they want all their kids to have a better life and be able to support our children in the future. From day one when I started kindergarten my parents push me to do my best and I don't plan to let them down.
At the age of ten being raised by minority parents was very difficult for me at the time. At the age of ten I was forced for my English and Spanish vocabulary to be very proficient due to always translating for my parents. At that age learning both languages was annoying, frustrating, and difficult; however that experience shaped me to be a proficient bilingual nurse present and gain benefits by being bilingual. The benefits where the many open job opportunities with the increase pay. This experience also assisted to raise my daughter to speak and write both languages actively although just not the way my parents forced it on me.
Not only are education and sports a big focus for me but also working the hardest I can. I have always heard the stories of people whose lives could have ended up horribly if it wasn’t for their hard work and perseverance. Lastly, something my parents taught me to do was to always do what you love and go after what makes me happy. I have never done anything because my parents wanted me to, I have learned to follow what I love and work hard to achieve what makes me
As a fifteen year old, I never thought I would be thinking about college so early, what irony! I stood a little surprised when my teacher gave me a paper which said I earned the opportunity to go to college early. I actually did not know that was possible; I decided to learn a little bit more about the program, Puma College Connection Program. After learning a little more about the program I knew I needed to take advantage of the opportunity. I talked to my parents and they both agreed, so I feel encouraged and hopeful for my future.
Without my mother to push me at such a young age, I wouldn’t have been the student I am today. As I grew older, my mom began to further understand the pressures of school on a student with regards to grades and test scores. Since I was the oldest child, my mother and I were both learning the ways of the American education system, especially as Asian Americans. But instead of constantly pressuring me on how to do the best in school to get into the most prestigious college, my mother let me realize for myself what it took to reach my goals. All that mattered to her was I tried my best, and that doesn’t have to equate to perfect grades.
A. The Student Teacher As A Growing Professional Areas of Strength (with evidence): In terms of my growth as a growing professional, I have a stronger sense of a "clear commitment to uphold the principles that should govern a democratic and pluralistic community" (Goal 3). Sport in itself is fun, healthy and rewarding. Although this is my personal view, it is more than likely shared with many more people around the world. I have always had a passion for sport, I was always a very active child and have been into competitive sport for years. My first experience in sports was joining a local martial arts club that taught Tae Kwon Do. I took part in Tae Kwon Do since i was four, I continued to progress and when I turned 11 I gained my black belt, this was my first insight into sports and fuelled my passion and enthusiasm to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
I believe my best ATL is self-management. Ever since I was young, I have always been on top of things and the ability to push myself. People would always tell me what I can and cannot do. I never listened to them. I learned to push myself over the limit until I reached my goal.
Education has in most cases been the main priority and factor in defining the outcome of a prosperous life. My mother being raised in an incredibly humble environment in the poor countryside of Haiti; continuously embedded the brilliant Nelson Mandela quote in my mind growing up that stated, "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” I carried out this mantra throughout my educational career and committed to excelling in my education in order to be awarded the gift of opportunity. I believe that I am uniquely deserving of this scholarship because of the combination of my strong work ethic and hunger for success and knowledge.
My family’s past experiences also teach me how to live my life the best way possible. For example, my parents did not finish college, so they were not able to obtain lucrative careers. Not finishing or not even going to college can take a toll on your life. If my parents finished college our life would have been more successful financially. Although my parents did not have the best money,
