I have been given the opportunity to further my education in health care. Starting in January of 2023 I will be pursuing my Doctorate of Physical Therapy at Baylor University. This is an accelerated 2 year program required to be a practicing physical therapist. Below I have outlined some of my goals and reasons for completing the program. I have been dreaming of being a physical therapist for over a decade. Physical therapy is the career path that I will be pursuing with this doctoral program. Like many others I have experienced physical therapy firsthand as an athlete. This began my dream of becoming a physical therapist. However, I was not motivated to be a physical therapist until I was able to see physical therapy in the workplace. I became drawn to physical therapy as I was able to observe the quality of life and functionality of patients improve through their treatment program. I want to be that positive light and influence to help people better themselves for the future. …show more content…
The prerequisites for this DPT program that I completed during undergrad have given me the foundation to begin my doctoral program. I also worked as a technician in between my undergraduate education and starting my graduate program. I worked in a general orthopedic clinic where we saw a variety of patients. We saw geriatric, pelvic floor, and athletes on a daily basis. Working as a technician allowed me to develop numerous skills in patient communication as well as learn some physical therapy techniques and palpation skills. Working as a technician allowed me to be very hands on with patients which I was not able to do during my observation hours
The Physical Therapist Assistant is an amazing career I will like to go in because I’ll be helping everyone. I have the skill sets to become a great one because I hate seeing people sad and injure, and I’m ambitions on what I’m doing. The job offers great pay, benefits, job opportunities, and can move up to physical therapist. I’m already working for the Miami Heat and one day I will like to work for the basketball team. I love basketball, so working for the basketball team will be a great fit for me and a life time goal.
I have known for years that I wanted to work in the realm of health science. I knew that I wanted to do something in sports medicine. When I took a deeper look into sports medicine I learned that there are many areas of sports medicine that you can get licensed in and that the sports medicine part would be a specialty to attach to it. So I took the list as started to look through it at each job that plays an affect in the sport medicine area. I narrowed in on Physical Therapy and then took the time to do some shadowing in it for my senior study.
I feel such a reward helping those in need, and I want to help people both physically and emotionally. Physical therapy is my ideal career because it fuels my passion for physical activity, but will allow me to have strong interpersonal relationships with my patients. I plan to graduate in the Fall of 2017. I have already planned my class schedule for the upcoming semesters to ensure I will graduate in a timely
For almost three years now, I have been enrolled in the Health Science program at Manchester Community College in Manchester, NH. My intentions are to transfer to a four-year college for a Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy and then continue on to a Master’s degree. My goal is to become an Occupational Therapist with a focus on children with special needs. I recently added a dual enrollment to my degree in the Infant/ Toddler Lead Teacher certification program to gain experience in the Early Childhood Education field in a school setting.
Personal Statement for Kansas University Occupational Therapy Doctoral Program I chose Occupational Therapy as my career path for many reasons, first of which is my passion for the promotion of health and seeing others achieve their personal goals. Always passionate about health I knew pursuing a career path in medicine would be most rewarding. While searching the various health career pathways, occupational therapy was a field of study I come to be intrigued by. There is a continuous need for this as an occupation in the world, as many of us do not realize how important independence is, until the moment it is taken away from us or we witness firsthand.
Malorie is the one person who has guided me throughout this journey, revealed the structure and reality of an Occupational Therapy program, and has fully supported me in pursuing this career. In 2018, she began her journey into becoming an Occupational Therapist, and her transparency regarding Occupational Therapy school has intensified the desire to pursue my schooling. I have become fully aware of the time, energy, and amount of work that goes into participating in a doctoral program. I intend on establishing connections, using my resources, pursuing this journey alongside other motivated individuals and continually reminding myself of why I chose this profession. I feel my tenacity for learning and dedication to success makes me a perfect candidate for the doctoral
The reason I chose a degree in occupational therapy is because I believe helping others is the most rewarding task a person can perform. Occupational therapy changes people’s lives by making them more independent, successful in day-to-day activities, and improves a patient’s standard of living. The factors that occupational therapists focus on enhance patient’s health outcomes. I would find great self-fulfillment if I was able to do the miracle work that occupational therapists do on a day-to-day basis. This degree relates to my immediate goal to better my knowledge on how to care for patients effectively and properly, as well as receive more experience through field work where I will be able to learn from others who are experienced in this
The dedication and commitment demonstrated towards me as a patient have truly inspired me to become a physical therapist. Another reason why I would be a good fit for this program is my expressed interest and commitment to the health field. In addition to the classes previously mentioned, I have taken biology, health careers exploration and I am currently enrolled in the college course, medical terminology. I also plan to enroll in collegiate level courses senior year such as AP Biology and a human anatomy course at Northeast Wisconsin Technical
Working towards a kinesiology major as an undergraduate student I will obtain a B.A. in kinesiology. After completion, I will head off to graduate school with the goal of earning a doctoral degree in physical therapy. Then I will proceed and take the National Physical Therapy Examination. By doing this,
The fact that learning never stops, that you work and collaborate with some of the smartest minds around, and the uniqueness of each patient gets me very eager to enroll in a challenging DPT program with proven student success. I am very thankful for the experience I’ve had so far observing physical therapy and studying the sciences in my undergrad. I don’t think as many other careers are so open to allow students into their workspace and I look forward to one day being able to spark another young student’s interest in rehab therapy. Before my sophomore year in high school, there was little I knew about the physical therapy field but since then I have spent a great deal of time observing physical therapists and from all that I’ve learn I know that I want to become a physical
I took a variety of courses in the kinesiology field, such as learning how the body recovers after an injury, evaluating and treating athletic injuries, therapeutic modalities and so on. These courses were challenging but I loved learning about the topics, and it kept me engaged and eager to learn. In addition to obtaining my bachelor’s degree in kinesiology, I also acquired a job as a physical therapy technician. Working as a physical therapy technician has given me the chance to implement what I learned from my degree into my work. I have learned how to set patients up on interferential current therapy, neuromuscular electrical stimulation, and other modalities.
“Physical therapists entering the occupation need a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree” (How to Become One- Physical Therapists). Earning a DPT is what causes continued education after the standard college-level courses, and although I know that pursuing a career in physical therapy will take longer, I have always enjoyed going to school knowing that I am going to gain so much knowledge. Unlike some, I actually enjoy going to school and learning, especially when it’s a topic I'm interested
Becoming an occupational therapist is my passion and my long-term career goal. Since a young age I have been incredibly inspired and motivated to befriend and help disabled individuals. Having grown up with a disabled mother who benefited from the services of occupational therapy I had the opportunity to see first hand how the experience gave can give individuals like her fulfilling and productive lives. With both parents working as healthcare professionals, including my mother who is now an occupational therapist herself, I see every day how rewarding the field is. Through my life I have had unique personal, professional and educational experiences that have shaped me into a strong candidate for an advanced education in occupational therapy.
Throughout the student 's career in the doctorate physical therapy degree program, they will be placed in
