The westward expansion was impacted by three main things and that is social, political, and economic. The westward expansion was impacted on a social scales with the tension between the Native Americans and the U.S., also during the journey to the west many people died. On a political scale the westward expansion was affected by the many wars and treaties that has to happen in order for the U.S. to gain the land, which then allows us to expand to the west. The westward expansion was effected by the economy because of the many technology that was created like trains, also because of the westward expansion there was an increase in business and industry's triumphed and since businesses grew there were many job opportunities which inclined people …show more content…
First off the reason the westward expansion happened is that the U.S. got new land and they got the land by making treaties and fighting in wars. Which is under the political category. For example according to Document C “The Growth of the United States 1783-1853” shows how because of politics the U.S. was able to gain many land from Great Britain, France, and Mexico. Like the Louisiana Purchase that the U.S. got from France in 1803. Since the U.S. purchased Louisiana there was a new job needed and that was to explore the new territory that the U.S. got. After the U.S. was done with expeditions and mapping a lot of people moved over to the area so that they can get land. Which caused new states to be created and since more states were created more people moved over since there were new jobs and businesses made in the new territory. Document C also shows how later on the U.S. ended up fighting Mexico in order to get Texas. Which brought a negative impact because of the expense of war which made the U.S. debt go up and many people died which could have affected the …show more content…
First off many conflicts happened because of the social tension between the Native Americans and the White Americans. For example according to Document E “Perspectives of the Natives and Whites” Santana the Chief of the Kiowas said, “A long time ago this land belonged to our fathers; but when I go up to the river I see camps of soldiers here on its bank. These soldiers cut down my timber; they kill my buffalo; and when I see that, my heart feels like bursting; I feel sorry.” This tells you that because of the White Americans the Natives and the land has suffered seeing as how the White Americans kicked the Natives off of their land and destroyed the land by cutting down trees and killing buffaloes which affects the ecosystem. Things like this forced the Native Americans to try to negotiate with the Supreme Court and the Supreme Court ruled in their favor. But because of people like Jackson who also on Document E said, “...By opening the whole territory between Tennessee on the north and Louisiana on the south to the settlement of the whites it will incalculably strengthen the southwestern frontier...It will separate the Indians from immediate contact with settlements of whites; free them from the power of the States; enable them to pursue happiness in their own way and under their own rude (primitive) institutions [and] to cast of their savage habits and become an interesting, civilized, and Christian
In the time during Westward Expansion was the time of new beginnings in America and it was time to move forward in land. America wanted to be superior to the rest of the countries around them. They went through many challegements to buy Louisiana Territory and explore its land around it as well. The country even almost went into bankruptcy and was almost sold to the French, but hopefully that did not happened. They even with success of land came trouble with greedy with expansion.
The first action federal government took was created laws. The second action federal government took was the Indian relations. The third action federal government took was creating railroads. So therefore, the impact is that the Americans expanded USA territory. First of all, the federal government created Acts.
It opened the path for many court cases to reserve space for the Native Americans and created a tension between the Native Americans who did
The people that expanded westward had to endure great challenges or setbacks on they 're exploring. They encountered a lot of weather challenges, Indian attacks and animal attacks. During this time of exploration the president Thomas Jefferson was not helping everyone explore. The westward expansion was actually a major part of his wild soul that just wanted to get out there and explore. The explorers and present day us got lots of benefits but also consequences.
Reuben Ackarie Professor King History 102 25 Feb 17. Railroad Westward Expansion from 1860 to 1890 The history of America is grounded in the concepts of immigration, expansion, and economic growth. When European settlers arrived along the East Coast, they developed a new doctrine called the manifest destiny that would guide their path (Manifest). The project to join the East and West Coast; which once could be considered as an impossible task, gradually gained steam (pardon the pun).
From sea to shining sea. That line from “America the Beautiful” defines the goal of the United States in the 1840’s. But why was this the goal? What caused this drive for expansion? During the mid-19th century, Americans set their sights of land west of the Louisiana Purchase.
Outburst Westward Expansion during the 19th Century time frame. After the War of 1812 and the Civil War the American started moving to the west including the Great Plains as per the request of the government. The Native Americans, which helped expand, pass the Mississippi River, this move began with just one word move west young man, and they did. These Immigrants came to the land of plenty. The idea of an American "empire" and "imperialism" (American History 1865-Present: End of Isolation) 1865 to 1914 American expansion was encouraged in this time frame.
Introduction The Westward Expansion is about moving west to find better land. almost seven million Americans moved west to find better land to farm and to build a house and raise a family. Two topics about the westward is The Oregon Trail and The Gold Rush.
Westward Expansion PEGS The decision to annex Texas produced problems within the government for example, whether or not adding a new slave state was equal according to the Missouri Compromise. They also feared that it would block the nation’s plan to accomplish Manifest Destiny. After President Polk annexed Texas, Mexico and Texas had to establish the border. Mexico believed that it was the Nueces River, however Texas and the rest of the U.S. believed it was the Rio Grande River, this caused a dispute between the two leading to the U.S. Mexican War. James K. Polk made it his mission during his campaign to annex Texas when John Tyler did not want to add the republic.
A very memorable topic in this event was Manifest Destiny. This was the thought that the United States was destined to stretch from coast to coast. Out of these two major events in the history of early America, westward expansion was the stronger factor in shaping the British North American colonies and the United States. Westward expansion was more impactful in that the Unites States juristically grew, and new
Yet another positive impact from Westward Expansion was all of the land the U.S gained. The U.S gained one-third of its land just from Westward Expansion. The U.S also gained part of ten states from the Mexican Cession. The last positive impact from Westward Expansion was the technological advancements that were made. There were many inventions that were made such as the steel plow, windmills, and the mechanical reaper.
Texas was originally part of Mexico, but separated and broke away through a rebellion in 1836. The annexation of Texas allowed for people to settle in the new land and rebuild their lives. These Americans saw this newly obtained territory as an opportunity to buy cheap land and property to grow crops, and improve their previous living conditions. As the United States acquired this region of Texas as its own, a cotton and slave based economy was started. This economy, made the opportunity for many expansive, family-owned farms to be created.
Westward Expansion Flash Draft Have you ever wondered about what would 've happened if the westward expansion never occurred? We wouldn 't have many things you know today and America would be a lot smaller. The westward expansion happened during the 1800s and helped shape the modern America. The westward expansion started with the Louisiana Purchase and was made even stronger by the Gold Rush. Many people came to strike it rich or just to start a new life out west.
The Westward Expansion all started when America made the Louisiana Purchase of 1803. There were many benefits from the purchase for the US that the French didn’t realize before they sold it. The purchase gave the US access to the Mississippi river which allowed for expansion of river trade to the North and South from the center of the US. The port city of New Orleans was bought by the US and its prosperity benefited the US greatly. The US sent Lewis and Clark west to investigate the land they purchased.
That is just one of many reasons there was Westward Expansion. Overpopulation, new inventions of transportation methods, and new opportunities. These are three of many reasons why Americans in the 1800’s felt urged to move west. Some may claim that Westward expansion was not right for America to do because of the conflicts that were aroused afterward.
