Polonius Madness In Hamlet

“Though this be madness, yet there is method in it.” Polonius’ quote to Hamlet displayed his first occurance with his insanity by throwing books and saying sarcastic things to Polonius. During the play, Hamlet displays his insanity very clearly. He is almost hard to recognize to his closest peers and family because he let revenge almost fully takes over his conscience. His only goal is to get revenge on his uncle, King Claudius who had recently poisoned and killed his father.
Hamlet never really went fully crazy because he always thought about the consequences instead of just making a move without thinking. If that were the case, Hamlet would have killed King Claudius at the beginning of the play. “Taint not thy mind, nor let thy soul contrive.” (1.5.) After the ghost of King Hamlet says this, Prince Hamlet realizes that revenge cannot not overtake him, but he still has to fulfill his mission of killing King Claudius. “Now might I do it pat, now he is praying, and now I'll do 't. [He draws his sword.] And so he goes to heaven, and so am I revenged. Throughout the play it is clearly displayed very real love for Ophelia. The main quote in this paper is “Though this be madness yet there is method in it.” I think that this is showing that he is not too mad to love because he still has his motives and goals but he never quick enough to act on them. It shows that he still loved her but did not show in the right way at all.
