Many shootings happen in schools everywhere like the shooting at Sandy Hook, a senseless tragedy for the students and teachers. The shooting happened December 14, 2012 in Newtown, Connecticut. The shooter was a 20-year-old man named Adam Lanza. He killed 20 children and 6 staff members. Another example is the Columbine High School Massacre, a school shooting that occurred on April 20, 1999, at the Columbine High School in Columbine. In addition to the shootings, the attack involved a fire bomb to divert firefighters, propane tanks converted to bombs placed in the cafeteria, 99 explosive devices, and car bombs. There was 12 students and one teacher that were murdered, 21 additional people were injured, also there was three more were injured while attempting to escape the school. At approximately 11:19 a.m., Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, began shooting at fellow students outside Columbine High School. Violent criminals know that currently schools are gun free zones, and can use this factor to their advantage. Rather than falling victim to an attack on the school; teachers could protect themselves and their students. Students could feel much safer if their teacher was armed. Students would feel more safe if they knew they could be protected from an attack from an intruder or another student. Safety is something we all strive for in our lives and we need it as much as we need air. Sadly, recent events in the world have put this safety at risk, something that must be changed. Being a university student, safety at the campus I commune to daily is of the upmost importance. The violence on school campuses has gotten worse as the time goes on, a total of 19 shootings has happened in 2015 alone. This may not seem like a lot, but the 40 deaths in these shootings respectively say different.
