The short story “Pride of Seven” by Robert W. Krepps demonstrates many similarities and differences between En-gerr, a man who must kill a lion, and El Asfar, a lion chief. To begin with, one of the similarities between the two includes their ability to be able to back away from a battle they know they don’t have to fight. En-gerr showed his endowment gift of truism when he called truce with the lion he endured to kill, El Asfar. It was down by the foothills where seven fearless lions roamed the land, and En-gerr stood proudly in front of the beast when he said, “It is peace, chieftain….You are my first lion, and it is peace between us. ‘He tossed the grass down before El Asfar, and turned and came back toward us’” (9). The narrator said, “Now, I thought, surely he’ll attack….he’ll charge….I clung to my doubts until the very moment when En-gerr rejoined us” (9). El Asfar could have easily killed En-gerr, but he decided to let him go. These quotes show that En-gerr and El Asfar are similar because both of them were expected to fight and win, but they saw the bigger picture and realized that the sluggish battle wasn’t worth their time. It is one thing to fight and win, but it is another story to have the courage to walk away. Another similarity that the mighty lion, El Asfar, and the courageous man, En-gerr, share is at one point they had to put someone back in their place. For one of the cases, one had to prove they were the king, and in the other case, one had to prove that he knew how to make wise decisions by …show more content…
...A man remembers his first lion all his life” (5). This was a moment where En-gerr had to put someone back in their place because the narrator didn’t believe he had it in him to kill the lion chief, but his words proved he could. El Asfar also had to put someone in their place, a lion named Black Mane; thus, he had to fight Black Mane to display the fact that he was the top lion. The narrator said, “He stood up slowly. Giving a brief but earsplitting bellow, he launched his great body full at Black Mane….And it was a fight….Black Mane had succeeding in standing and was starting off after the distant lionesses, his chin touching the grass as he went. He looked like a beast who had learned a valuable lesson—the hard way” (7-8). Both En-gerr and El Asfar magnified the fact that they do what to do for good reasoning. They knew what they needed to be done, and they had to prove it to the one person or animal that doubted their choice or their presence in a certain position of power. Most importantly, they did whatever they had to do to justify the fact that they do belong or they are indeed capable of doing the
It takes a lot to be courageous. Courage is when you or someone is being strong and standing up for themselves. Cassie is the courageous because she stands up for her rights and her family's.
Decision making can overpower the way an individual thinks, especially when true love comes into play. In Grey’s Anatomy, “17 Seconds,” Izzie Stevens demonstrates herself as a tragic hero throughout the episode. In the beginning, Izzie is determined to help her loved one, Denny Dequette, who is struggling with heart failure. Not willing to give up, she tries to get advice from her co-workers, Meredith and Cristina, on how to save Denny. Both Meredith and Cristina told her that he will get the next heart that comes in.
The constellation I have chosen for this assignment is Leo Major. I 've chosen it mostly because of previous studies I have done on it. Leo, being one of twelve zodiacs, is located in between Cancer (to the west) and Virgo (to the east). Its name originates from the Latin root for "lion". The ancient Greeks represented it as the Nemean lion that was killed by Hercules as on of his "twelve labors".
The short story, "Pride of seven," by Robert W. Krepps depicts the theme, that to mature to a true man, a person must demonstrate solid bravery and strength. The story takes place in Africa where the main characters, En-gerr and a man who is writing a book(the name is never revealed), live in a tribe with many different cultures. In the beginning of the story, En-gerr tells the narrator discus how to become a true man among the tribe, the story states, “...Is a man's first lion then less important than his first wife…”(5); there are many things you can interpret from this quote, for my purposes, the quote is explaining how because he has not taken a wife, nor his first lion, he has not been accepted as a true man of the Masai. There is no other
In a situation where your body is surviving on a thread, your stomach is inflated due to starvation and all the strength you had before is gone, you have to rely on mental and religious strength to carry you through your hardships. In Elie Wiesel’s “Night”, Elie talks about his personal experiences and hardships he faced during WWII and his life at Auschwitz as a young boy. Throughout the story Elie pushes through losing his mother and sister, lashings, seeing babies burned alive and the fear of death but also the hope for it in some situations. No amount of physical strength can help someone survive in the brutal place Auschwitz. Everywhere in the story Elie and other characters show that with mental and religious/spiritual strength, you can push through any hardship you have to face.
Polonius Vs. Zazu When comparing and contrasting William Shakespeare’s Hamlet and Disney’s The Lion King the characters have similiar levels of comparison. Both Hamlet and the Lion King are stories centered around the following elements; truth, deception, revenge, romance, and the circle of life. The characters in both of the stories are constantly working to find their place in the circle of life throughout the story.
Throughout history epic tales have been told about heroes attempting to explain various occurrences such as the ones in the Gilgamesh and Beowulf. Gilgamesh and Beowulf compare and contrast in beliefs, their leadership styles, and the journeys they go on. Although both Beowulf and Gilgamesh can be compared to each other, because of their opposing locations and personalities, they are contrasting to each other. Beowulf and Gilgamesh leaderships styles, although very different, do have some similarities. Both Beowulf and Gilgamesh possess great physical strength, and courageousness as leaders of their respective cultures.
Taking a Stand In the epic, “From Beowulf” translated by Burton Raffel, a warrior from the Geats comes to rescue Hrothgar, the king of the Danes whose land is being attacked by a monster, Grendel. Beowulf succeeds and defeats Grendel. Sometimes, it isn’t the winning, but it’s the taking a stand that counts. Taking a stand is more important because you are standing up for what you believe in. When you take a stand for what you believe in, it shows bravery.
The Lion King is a film based on a young lion cub, Simba, and the events he must overcome in learning to become a successful leader. The film begins with the birth of Simba, the heir to the throne. The birth of Simba forces Simba’s Uncle Scar out of the line up to one day become king. Thus Simba’s birth angers Scar enough to plot the death of the Simba’s father, King Mufasa. Macbeth, one of William Shakespeare’s most famous plays, is a tragedy about one man rising to the top to subsequently fall. The Lion King is an animated Disney movie about a lion cub learning about life while on the run following his father’s death. The Lion King and Macbeth compare to certain multitudes, as well as contrast to a certain degree. Similarities and differences between the movie and play are shown between Duncan and Mufasa, Malcolm and Simba, Macbeth and Scar, the three witches and Rafiki, and the theme of appearance versus reality. Similar to King Duncan, Mufasa was a fantastic king.
In the short story Battle Royale by Ralph Ellison, the theme was grounded in fear. The group of African American boys were forced in participation in harmful activities. His grandfather gave him advice in the beginning of the story. The meaning to his grandfather’s last words could be translated into two ways; to rebel or to follow. The grandfather was instructing him to agree with the white man's orders.

The other similar characters in both the works are Patroclus and Enkidu, who were uncivilized and died for the fame of their leaders. The similarities between the themes of both these works like mortality, friendship and religion. The importance of the theme of friendship is seen in the relationship between Enkidu and Gilgamesh and Patroclus and Achilles. Another similarity is in the main theme of both these works. Both the characters of Gilgamesh and Achilles have the weakness of mortality.
Lion King. The analysis will be based on Carl G. Jung’s archetypes, and two of them will be applied to Simba. The Lion King was chosen to be the topic of this essay because of the journey that Simba has to go through to become a mature lion, ready to watch over Pride Rock, a part of Africa that his father once ruled. Simba’s journey exemplifies the archetypes that I have chosen to discuss, with every moment in the movie being a crucial part of Simba’s development. Additionally, the text gives a thorough description of the archetypes applied, and will be explored through Simba’s story.
