Athletes are not overpaid The average athlete puts in well over 40 hours a week of practice, study, workouts, and game time, putting there lives on the line each and every time they step into the arena. But it isn't all for nothing, according to Forbes magazine the average NFL players makes 1.1 million dollars a year, NBA at 5.5 million and EPL (premier league) at about 6.7 million considering that most owners are billionaires. Is that too much? I think not!
Being an athlete is hard, very hard. It takes an insane amount of dedication, determination, and desire in order to make it to the big leagues. Not only that but the odds are certainly against you as 1 in every 557 basketball player actually make it to the nba, and 1 in 1,110 players make make it to the nfl. But this is simply not luck, as i described it the hard work and desire to be that 1 person that allows athletes to make it to the pros.

When the average football game costs around $113.30 for a ticket, not to add all you spend buying hot dogs, burgers, french fries, etc. Which are way overpriced. Now times that by about about the average size of an nfl stadium at about 70,000 - 100,000. Imagine how much money the team makes in one game! Let alone one season! Owners are earning billions a season. Why don't the players deserve their fair
My first topic/ issue is with the NFL and their team owners; the basic idea of this issue is how the NFL swindles the state and the taxpayers to buy them new things while on the other side the tax payers get bent over. In this article from “the Atlantic” it says how the Seahawks built a new stadium and the cost 560 million, 390 million which was tax payers money. They only pay 1 million for rent while the rest is just a profit to the team and the owners, the tax payers are paying a lot of money to build a new stadium while a lot of it is just going back into a billionaires pocket (Paul Allen). I don 't like it, I think paying guys millions to play football and act like idiots most of the time is ridiculous. Most of these guys are very uneducated
In fact, according to the New York Times, up to 10.5 percent of the family’s gross income is spent on sports. So a family making $50,000 a year will spend about $5,500 a year on sporting costs. Parents pay this kind of money because they have high hopes that by spending a fortune on athletics, it will guarantee that their kids will play in college and receive a college athletic scholarship. But even if their child does not receive the scholarship they hoped for, they now have to worry about finding ways in which they will pay for college. This idea of disbursing countless dollars on sports is ridiculous, a waste of time, and of course a waste of hard earned money.
Statistically showing, at least 100,000 college football players get hurt yearly. College football player’s should get paid to play because these players put themselves at risk for injury, college football is a job, not p.e, and it will help players adjust to college socially and economically. Colleges and the NCAA can make money selling jerseys and other souvenirs that might include the likeness of players, yet the actual players never receive a cent. Every time a football player steps onto the field, they’re risking themselves for injury.
People who say they should be paid are wrong because players would no longer be playing with the same passion and drive they possessed as kids, just a monthly paycheck. Finally if collegiate athletes were paid the NCAA would be no different from their professional
College athletes deserve to be paid because they are the only ones not being paid in the college sports industry. The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) generates eleven billion dollars annually, some of which could, and should go to college athletes. “USA Today reported last year just how much money the top 10 coaches in college football made. Nick Saban from Alabama topped the list earning roughly $5.5 million in 2013 alone” (Seibold). The coaches are making millions of dollars and the players aren’t.
Have you ever wondered why National Football League players, known as NFL players, make so much money? I think NFL players should continue to earn such high salaries for the reasons that follow; they entertain millions, risk getting life altering injuries, and create loads of revenue. To put the second reason into perspective, getting tackled by a 300 pound defensive lineman is comparable to getting in a car accident at 30 miles per hour without a seat belt on (Wisconsin Trooper Association). That can happen to just one player upwards of 20 times a game. National Football League players, known as NFL players; deserve as much money as they get because of how they entertain people.
But, if put the numbers into perspective you see that they are only getting a fraction of what they deserve. They are grossly under compensated in comparison to the billions the NCAA brings in using their likeness every year. The athletes need to be paid for playing for universities. After all it is their choice to go there. They are giving schools chances at championships and they are getting nothing compared to what the monster that is the NCAA is
In my personal opinion, college athletes should be paid due to seeing first-hand the immense amount of dedication the players put into their sport. I believe that by placing their sport above all else, making it a sole factor of their focus, athletes treat their participation in their sport as a full time job. Being required to practice year around taking up most, if not all spare time that they aren’t in class or studying, makes maintaining an outside job or way to make money seems nearly impossible. According to Mark Edelman from Forbes.com, the typical Division I college athlete devotes around 43.3 hours per week to his or her sport and maintaining his or her scholarship. Not only are they spending over 40 hours per week towards these sports related demands, but they are also required to spend around 50 hours per week towards their academics.
If these athletes deserve to get paid they should just do 1 year in college and draft to the NBA, people like Marvin Bradley did the same. Marvin Bagley went to Duke for one year he is a center on the basketball team. Did you know spending billions of more to pay players would only exacerbate a difficult financial situation for school that are already subsiding athletics. However a statistical found that the top college quarterback are worth more than 2 million annually to their schools. The lifestyle of college athletes remains restrained by NCAA rules established by every athletic programs.
People know that doctors and firefighters save lives, while athletes play a game to make money. Even teachers pay isn’t anywhere near to athletes; they educate the generation’s youth so they can make a difference in the future. So many jobs that are very important don’t get paid as much and that money can go towards better causes. But these are only some of the reasons that pro athletes get paid too much.
Athletes - Paid for Their Worth Most people think that athletes are overpaid and see huge contracts come out every year. It’s not everyday that an athlete wakes up to a 20 million dollar contract. In fact, they actually worked for it over many years of training and dedication. Pro athletes are paid exactly what they deserve because they work hard and sacrifice more than most people think. It's not just businesses paying them; people do things like buy merchandise, tickets to the games and support their favorite teams while the athlete does the “dirty” work of performing.
There could be a policeman with an entire family, and an athlete will make more than them in one paycheck, while that family is making significantly less in 10 years. These reasons prove that more important jobs deserve to get paid more than athletes. Now. some athletes spend their money responsibly.
Are actors and professional athletes overpaid? The film industry and professional sports are regarded to be the most profitable business sector in the present scenario. The professional artists and film actors earn millions of dollars due to their talent.many people might have had a dream to be popular and earn more like they do. Despite the fact that their profession is not an easy job that could be done by common people, they are more prone to criticism resulting from their overpaid work. However, the perception on whether the professional artists and actors are overpaid or not is still a matter of concern of a majority of people.
While the athletes just show entertainment to fans. Don 't get me wrong, but paying an athlete $13.5 million for a single year is just really doing the most. There are doctors who are probably saving lives right now that will probably never make that much. Some might say that these pro athletes have spent most of their childhood playing sports, but hasn’t everyone played like one type of game or sport once in their life? I’m not trying to say that I don’t think that they should not get paid at all, but they shouldn’t be getting paid that much.
