A dictatorship is government ruled where one or more than one group is in full control over every aspect of government. It’s the absolute rule made my one person over many people that the government oversees. Now with the way dictatorship is set up, democracy and people’s opinions are hard to come by. This idea that every dictatorship is evil isn’t always the case. There are such things as a good dictator who listens to the people, but that is very rare.
In the United States particularly, there are three branches of government, the judicial branch, executive branch, and the legislative branch. Each branch is a separate entity and as a result one cannot be in any other at the same time. This allows checks and balances between the groups, although lately it doesn’t seem that way. With the way our government is set up, no one person rules over everyone else. The president in the executive branch does have the most power in relation to any one person, but I do not think this means that there is any dictatorship going on.

This means that we are a democratic republic, where the people elect others to create laws, carry out laws, and overall run the country. Of course, then there are lobbyists who can decide elections using money. The circulation in money around the government isn’t the best idea, as money does talk. Overall, I do not think the United States is a dictatorship as there are many worse countries in the past that have undergone a terrible dictatorship. So in comparison it isn’t the worst country to live
There are many checks and balances placed upon each of the three government branches. These checks and balances were created to insure that each branch would have nearly equal power. In this way, no branch will be able to rise above the others in power. This system has worked very effectively over the past years, however, there have been several situations over the past years in which this system has been challenged. Leaders of the Executive branch such as William Howard Taft, or Franklin D. Roosevelt have tried to expand the power of the executive branch.
Dictatorship is when a certain person or a small group control everybody in the country. (Encyclopedia Britannica) Dictatorship makes it so the leader controls what the people do. This also includes Communist Dictatorships like the Soviet Union. Our colony is strongly against dictatorship because there is always someone that has too much power when everybody else has no freedom to question it whatsoever. In Earth’s past whenever they had dictators they usually threatened the world.
The next reference described a system of checks and balances used to make sure no one branch got control of too much power. The attached diagram showed the use of this system in your constitution and modern
Of course what comes to mind is tyranny. To understand tyranny, first we need to know what tyranny is. Tyranny is a form of government where one person or a big or small group of people has all the power or most of the power in a government. Tyranny is also similar to dictatorship. Our founding fathers had ideas of their time to protect us from tyranny in their new nation.
The three branches were established by the Constitution and divided into executive, legislative, and judicial. The executive branch consists of the president and his cabinet, the legislative branch consists of Congress, the Senate, and the House of Representatives, and the judicial branch consists of the Supreme court and other federal courts. Focusing on the judicial branch, the Constitution has established the Supreme Court as the only court to make decisions of national importance. One strength of this branch is that it holds the power to provide equal justice and determine if the laws passed by Congress are constitutional through appeals, trials, and review. “Put simply, for federal theorists judicial supremacy exists because it must:
embraces more than the fate of these United States. It presents to the whole family of man the question of whether a constitutional republic or democracy -- a government of the people, by the same people -- can or cannot maintain its territorial integrity against its own domestic foes. It presents the question whether the discontented individuals-- too few in numbers to control the administration, according to organic law, in anycase -- can always, upon the pretenses made in this case or on any other pretenses, or arbitrarily without any pretense, break up the government and thus practically put an end to free government upon the earth. It forces us to ask: “Is there, in all republics, this inherent and fatal weakness? Make a government, of necessity, be too strong for the liberties of its own people, or too weak to maintain its own
Three Reasons Thomas Jefferson Would Despise Democracy Today During the late 1700’s, a beautiful thing happened within the world. A country came about that began to dominate the world. The principles on which which this country rested were presented by a man of great intelligence. This man is none other than Thomas Jefferson, whom presented this country the foundation of principals for which is still stands today.
In America, we have a representative democracy, which means a form of government in which the will of majority is expressed through groups of individuals elected by the people to act as their representatives. In simpler terms, it means that the citizens vote or elect an individual to represent them in the government. Throughout the world, many countries “Claim,” to have a democratic government for example, “People’s Republic of China or Democratic People’s Republic of North Korea.” In reality, both of those countries have a government that is nowhere near democracy or republic, they have either an oligarchy or dictatorship which can best describe their nation’s government. Another form is a monarchy, how England was ruled for long time, but now is ran by a constitutional monarchy.
Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines Fascism as "a political philosophy, movement, or regime (as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition." Basically what this breaks down to, also according to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, although for students, Fascism is "a political system headed by a dictator in which the government controls business and labor and opposition, is not permitted." The Liberals continuously call the Conservatives, Fascists, but more often than not, in doing so, they themselves are being Fascists. For example, yesterday was a day set aside for the Conservatives to gather and show their support for President Trump. Plainly many Liberals protested this support because they cannot stand the fact that anyone wants to support our President.
Therefore, power has been justly distributed between each division of government. Checks and balances are yet another form of separation of powers in the government. As the Constitution was initially written, there were checks and balances preventing any one branch of becoming too powerful. Since we still follow the same Constitution (with a few amendments) those checks and balances are still used.
In document C there are the 3 branches of government and arrows pointing from one to the other telling us how each branch checks one another. Some of these are, the president can veto different laws if he does not like them, but Congress can override this veto and pass the law anyways if they have a majority vote to override it. The Courts can declare acts of either branch as unconstitutional. Congress can also impeach members of any other branch and can remove them from office. All of this means that whatever one branch does, it must go through the other two so no corrupt laws can be passed.
Before in an oligarchy or in a monarchy one person or group made the decisions about everything. This is a very basic similarity though, as the groups in each democracy do completely different things. The current American Democracy split up their responsibilities into three separate branches. These checks and balances are called; judiciary, legislative and executive. The leader of the country or president as we call him is contained in the executive branch.
The United States government, a simple yet advanced system with the goal of keeping the people safe, healthy, and wealthy. It’s a three branch system that equally divides the powers to create, enforce, and interpret laws. The branch with the power to interpret and/or override these laws from action is the Judicial branch. This branch has the power to deem laws unconstitutional. The Judicial branch also has the highest power in the court with it as the Supreme Court.
The Executive branch executes laws and is the president. The Judicial branch judges laws and is the Supreme Court. The Legislative branch creates laws and is the House of Representatives and Senate. James Madison said in Federalist Paper #47 Document B, “the accumulation of all powers...in the same hands...may be justly pronounced the very definition of tyranny.” This helps protect from tyranny because the Separation of Powers prevents all power from being in the same hands.
The United States’ political system is broken into to three different branches. The executive, legislative and judicial
