One of the biggest controversies in the United States today is immigration. This is a huge topic in the country today because there is numerous people on both sides of the Comprehensive Immigration Reform that present great evidence about it. This reform is impacting millions of immigrants that are working and living in the Unites States today, but it also affects the people that are citizens of the United States. In this paper I am going to present arguments from both sides of the Comprehensive Immigration Reform, then come to a conclusion on which side I choose to place my opinion. There are a lot of worthy things that this reform is going to accomplish for immigrants in the United States. There are only a few things that they must undergo …show more content…
This reform has a lot of counters to all of the benefits it could cause. One of the biggest arguments against the reform is that it is “amnesty for people who have broken the law, and amnesty will only encourage more illegal immigrants to come into the country (immigration.about.com)”. This is a huge agreement, which does present a good fact. The majority of people that will be using this are undocumented immigrants that already broke the law. “Because the federal government has no realistic capability to deport the 11 million, or to incarcerate them, there long-term residence in the country is virtually assured. Ignoring the problem is a form of amnesty (immigration.about.com)”. The government just saying that, well we can not really do anything about it, is pretty much saying we do not want to spend the money to send them home. So we will just have them pay taxes and collect money from them. This has been tried before back in the Reagan administration, “Despite promises of tough enforcement measures, that bill is now viewed as a failure that prompted a wave of fraud and a surge of illegal immigration (nbcpolitics.nbcnews.com)”. There are also a lot of people that think this will affect the way that votes come in. “They argue that new immigrants are naturally ideologically aligned with liberals; more legalization, these political thinkers say, just means more votes for Democrats in future elections (nbcpolitics.nbcnews.com)”. But, in the end one of the biggest cons of this reform will be the affect it has on the labor force in the country. Some people “…say that even with wage protections negotiated by unions, temporary immigrant labor will lower wages for American workers and will keep those currently unemployed or underemployed unable to succeed in the job market (nbcpolitics.nbcnews.com)”. This is one of the biggest reasons why I
In 2010, Arizona S.B. 1070 was an anti-illegal immigration law that was passed to focus on identifying, prosecuting, and deporting undocumented immigrants. Arizona’s law enforcement officials could detain anyone who was suspected of living in the country illegally. The law also made it a state misdemeanor crime to for an alien to not carry registration papers and people in the country illegally to solicit work. But, Arizona S.B. 1070 was charged with violating the federal Supremacy Clause by enacting its own immigration enforcement laws instead of following federal regulations; violating the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment by denying minorities their equal protection of the laws; violating the 1st Amendment by scrutinizing minorities
The term "alien" has taken on a negative connotation over the last few years. With the issue of immigration reform so prevalent in the U.S., immigration-reform advocates are fighting to remove the term from federal documents so as not to offend immigrants. Castro leads the way Rep. Joaquín Castro, D-Texas, introduced a bill that would effectively remove the term "alien" in any and all federal documents and replace it with the more politically correct term "foreign national. " The name of the bill is the Correcting Hurtful and Alienating Names in Government Expression Act, also known as the CHANGE act.
It is something that will improve the country socially and economically. It would resolve so many issues regarding immigration reform and about all of the young undocumented alien minors in America. It is something that would motivate them even, because they have been given a second chance, which is great then. It will empower them; it will show them that you should never give up and that America after-all. These alien minors will become better-educated, higher-earning workers and taxpayers.
Illegal immigration will always be a problem that the U.S. will have to attend to. The Illegal Immigration Control and Enforcement Act of 1995 takes many steps in order to suppress the entry of illegals. Border patrol along with many other variables are taken into action by the immigration control and enforcement act. Therefore the Illegal Immigration Control and Enforcement act of 1995 is the best policy to stop illegal immigration makes it the best
It is unargueable that the government needs to control and protect the country and its bordlers from intruder, unwanted and unathourized into the country with. Majority believes that the current US immigration laws the rich. For the minorities, the current US immigration laws serves a road block to many that seeks a better life dues to one reasone or another, either for themslves or their families. Today, taking a look the process required to be admitted into the United States alone discourages so many from even attempting.
Should the United States change its Immigration Policy? This is the subject of todays debate. Resolved, that the united states should significantly change its immagration policy. In order to accuratly arue this subject we must first define our terms. Significantky; to be important or consequential.
President Trump signed an Executive Order to reinstate the governmental initiative to buy American, hire American. There is speculation as to whether this may become legislation. The legislation will prevent foreign workers with H-1B visas from obtaining work in the United States. An unnamed white house official claims that this policy will ensure pathways to success for all. Before this order, the government gave out 85,000 visas to high-skilled workers in a lottery system.
The Affordable Care Act: Bad For Some, Great For Millions For sometime, many US citizens have not had the resources to acquire an adequate health insurance plan. Although faced by many oppositions, the US government has found a solution, The Affordable Care Act. The Affordable Care Act, also known as “Obamacare”, is a US healthcare reform law that focuses mainly on providing more Americans with access to an affordable health insurance. The Affordable Care Act is said to expand the affordability, quality, and availability of private and public health insurance through consumer protections, regulations, subsidies, taxes, insurance exchanges, and other reforms. Signed into law by President Obama in March 2010, hence the nickname “Obamacare”, the
During the Presidential election of 2016, Donald Trump was marked the 45th President of the United States. Thus, that has meant change. The U.S. immigration policy has become a huge a renowned topic for the past couple months after Trump’s election. Through the research I’ve dug through, I first thought the current policy was absurd being a democrat with liberal views, but after digging up more research and the reasons behind the current policy, I’d have to agree with the current immigration policy that various majority Muslim countries have been banned from entering the country and the idea behind building a wall between the United States and Mexico. In an article from Rachel del Guidice, she noted that, “…Trump’s dedication to enforcing immigration law is one of his significant accomplishments as he nears his 100th day in office…” (2017).
“Nearly 15 years after the worst terrorist attack in U.S. history, the government admits that more than half a million foreigners with expired visas—like the 9/11 jihadists—remain in the country and thousands are from terrorist nations like Pakistan, Iraq, Yemen, Libya and Syria”(Retrieved from www.judicialwatch.org) (Judicial Watch, 2016). Government has to enforce immigration law and construct a useful plan to determine overstayed visa before they become a threat such as Arizona and Texas, the police can stop people and ask them their identity to determine if they are here legally. What happens in September 11th was a good example of unacceptable behavior due to unknown terrorists attack the twin center which cost the government billion of dollars to clean up the mess and rebuild a new building as well, beside the compensation for people who were affected emotionally and by the chemical substance. Therefore, the government spends a fortune to detect and punished who’s responsible for this tragedy.
The political aisle as well as economists spectrum exercises insightful particular distinctions of the demographic shifts on opposing perceptions of the caution on border policy undeterred by prejudices or preferences, to demonstrate the relevance cultural diversity. The pros of open border protect U.S. citizens because the government crafted a solid system is recipe founded on the enforcement of the public safety from any unforeseen disasters. Pros is that the U.S. government would be able to cut the spending on such things as border patrols, as well as customs which means a partial decrease in taxes for us citizen, to pay or at least one substitute good, Which indirectly means that there will be more money to be spent on education
One of the reasons there is so much immigrant population in this country is because of the economy. In the past, immigration was helpful to the economy when people encouraged it so that the it could become prosperous and bring in diversity and help needed. Today, many people are afraid of losing their jobs. Immigration is currently flooding the labor market, primarily in the low-skill, low-wage sectors, and driving down wages and working conditions for many Americans because our immigration policies do not take economic conditions into account. Illegal immigration probably has its greatest impact on the United States’
As a country, the United States government must embrace a movement framework that serves a national intrigue. A framework that reestablishes the run of law and secures the outskirts. The measure of unlawful migration coming into the Unified States is ludicrous: “At the federal, state, and local levels, taxpayers shell out approximately $134.9 billion to cover the costs incurred by the presence of more than 12.5 million illegal aliens, and about 4.2 million citizen children of illegal aliens”(White House Immigration Agency). It's not only the cash the state or government needs to pay, it's what the workers do to get the cash and additionally how they spend it. Last year alone, “Mexican illegal aliens used identity theft to steal $360,908 in government,” and with that money they spent it on “...ushering matters to bring their families over illegally… as well to maintain their well being too”(Warren Mass).
Our policies on illegal immigration can diminish the problem by enforcing immigration laws, revoking birthright autonomy, and demanding proof of citizenship when applying for social services. Immigration has become a major problem in this country and needs to be restricted. Our economic implications would be beneficial towards the U.S. economy. Without the crutch of illegal immigrants holding us back, our U.S. economy can prosper more than ever. Due to the current economic slowdown, labor demands had been reduced and has forced many out of work.
The political effects that I have included in this paper are how does illegal immigration impact congressional apportionment, how Republicans and Democrats view immigration and political instability. The economic effects that I have included in this paper are that if a policy succeeds in making U.S. illegal immigrants more like legal immigrants, it will lower the spending of the national welfare by increasing wages for illegal workers. Other economic effects include that if the economic conditions were attractive to workers from other countries coming to the United States, the demand side of immigration should be structured by only granting visas for skilled workers and illegal immigration gives local businesses and communities an economic opportunity. For the political effects of the theory, immigration reform will alter the U.S. political landscape. This could lead to political instability as the system adapts to a new reality.
