One of the biggest controversies in the United States today is immigration. This is a huge topic in the country today because there is numerous people on both sides of the Comprehensive Immigration Reform that present great evidence about it. This reform is impacting millions of immigrants that are working and living in the Unites States today, but it also affects the people that are citizens of the United States. In this paper I am going to present arguments from both sides of the Comprehensive Immigration Reform, then come to a conclusion on which side I choose to place my opinion. This reform has a lot of counters to all of the benefits it could cause. One of the biggest arguments against the reform is that it is “amnesty for people who have broken the law, and amnesty will only encourage more illegal immigrants to come into the country (immigration.about.com)”. This is a huge agreement, which does present a good fact. The majority of people that will be using this are undocumented immigrants that already broke the law. “Because the federal government has no realistic capability to deport the 11 million, or to incarcerate them, there long-term residence in the country is virtually assured. Ignoring the problem is a form of amnesty (immigration.about.com)”. The government just saying that, well we can not really do anything about it, is pretty much saying we do not want to spend the money to send them home. So we will just have them pay taxes and collect money from them. This has been tried before back in the Reagan administration, “Despite promises of tough enforcement measures, that bill is now viewed as a failure that prompted a wave of fraud and a surge of illegal immigration (nbcpolitics.nbcnews.com)”. There are also a lot of people that think this will affect the way that votes come in. “They argue that new immigrants are naturally ideologically aligned with liberals; more legalization, these political thinkers say, just means more votes for Democrats in future elections (nbcpolitics.nbcnews.com)”. But, in the end one of the biggest cons of this reform will be the affect it has on the labor force in the country.
