Psychology versus Pop Psychology The expectations of modern life predispose individuals to the risk of depression (Lara, Klein & Kasch, 2010). From students’ academic to professionals’ work performance, there is pressure to meet set thresholds. A New York Times article by Scelfo (2015), Suicide on Campus and the Pressure of Perfection, highlights how college and university students succumb to pressure for top performance and end up in depression while others even commit suicide. On the other hand, a journal article by Kravits et al (2010), Self-care strategies for nurses: A psycho-educational intervention for stress reduction and the prevention of burnout, discusses depression in the nursing profession and highlights how to prevent it. Both articles acknowledge how pressure to perform may achieve results but have an equal potential for negative effects. However, while the newspaper article mainly focuses on publicizing events that resulted from depressed individuals, it lays no scientific background to the problem and how it can comprehensively be addressed. On the other hand, the journal article details the onset of the problem and how it can be prevented from developing. By giving reference to other peer-reviewed professional articles, the journal

What was once thought of as a profession driven by compassion and the desire to help those in need has now become filled with weary burnt out nurses who have lost sight of their purpose. Stress has caused them to distance themselves from the principles nursing is built upon. Our health care system needs to be revamped to improve the quality of care being administered. Nurses can be proactive and take steps to avoid burning out but, our health care administrators have to take matters into their hands because they have the capacity to initiate change. They must realize the gravity of the situation and take an offensive position to make a stand against the crisis of nursing
Desks across the United States are remaining empty in busy, learning environments. Whether that be in the classroom, on the basketball court, or even in the stands along the football field. Teenage suicide has seen a tremendous increase in the past decade. “Empty Seat PSA” was produced to spread awareness about teenage suicide. “Empty Seat PSA” is trying to spread awareness to limit those numbers.
If any of theses warning signs are detected, students should seek immediate professional assistance. Furthermore, student response to suicide should be cautious rather than confrontational. Therefore, developing trust is vital in preventing suicide and building connections that can encourage communication. Students should give their attention and support while, encouraging family and friends to seek professional assistance.
Orem’s Self-Care Deficit Nursing Theory One of the most exciting things about nursing is that it is always changing. One of the frustrating things about nursing is that it is always changing. Nursing theory is no different. Theories are continually being updated and revised as worldviews and healthcare itself changes (McEwen & Wills, 2014).
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, nursing is the nation’s largest healthcare profession. Registered Nurses who work in the emergency room should be required to be psychologically evaluated in their position because they handle stressful situations. In addition, they witness a numerous amount of traumatic events such as deaths and major body deformations. Therefore, these events can cause personal issues over a long period of time, such as emotional, physical, and psychological actions that scars nurses throughout their profession. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) within a nurse’s profession is likely to occur when they experience a traumatic event, and causes an individual to suffer.
As of 2015, 5 in 100,000 girls and 14 in 100,000 teenagers commit suicide (Lewis). Teenagers are becoming more vulnerable and schools seem to be taking no notice. If these lives could be saved, it would help so many families across the united states. The National Institute of Mental Health states that there “are as many as 25 attempts of suicide to every one that is actually committed” (Eco Child’s Play). Suicides can be prevented by treatment of the illness.

Besides the lacking mental fortitude, these feelings of inadequacy and worthlessness within students, which may cause depression and even suicide, is caused by social or personal pressure from oneself or by their peers. One of the primary external pressures that most students face is that of parents and their expectations. Though most parents may have the best intentions for a childs future, constant supervision
I believe that explaining to you what pop culture is would be a waste of time because I’m sure that there are not that many People on Earth that have never heard of Pop culture, it’s not for nothing it’s called Pop Culture after all so lets skip the introduction and proceed straight to my point. I’m sure you’ve already noticed how modern popular culture now is more vulgar, unethical, amoral and dehumanizing than any other time in human history. It’s very disturbing because culture is something that is supposed to be uplifting, it’s supposed to inspire people to gain more knowledge, develop their personalities, set standards and motivate people to reach their dreams. By its very definition pop culture has been always mass produced for mass consumption but

Over the years the issue of suicide has been slowly increasing. It is now the third leading cause of death among young people. The effects of suicide are tragic and felt long after the individual has taken their own life. Some people who consider suicide, however, never make a “serious” attempt at it. For every attempted suicide, there is said to be more than one person whose thought of suicide has never translated into an actual attempt.

The statistics about teenage runaways, alcoholism, drug problems, pregnancy, eating disorders, and suicide are startling.
