Pursuing a career as a nurse has been my primary goal since I was a child. I have been doing a lot of things that would help me get in and do well in the field of nursing in every way possible. Due to the extensive amount of my academic and professional work experiences, I am assured that I can do better than most people with the same goal. There are so many high schoolers who do not really think about what they’re going to become until the last minute. Unlike them, I have decided to take as many health and science related classes as possible, that would help me increase my academic experiences and be ahead than most students. At the same time, I have been volunteering in several hospitals and nursing homes. When I was a senior in Clackamas

I was very clumsy when I was a little kid. I vividly remember falling when running around in our yard. It might sound horrible, but this led me to question how our scars healed and how our bruises go away. I would ask my mother, a nurse, as to why this happens. That was when I was a kid.

School has always been my number one priority. I focus hard to achieve the grades I want by making sure I turn all my homework in on time and studying for tests. Sometimes school can be very stressful but I have to push myself to strive for the grades I want. I have learned that before taking a test you need to make sure you study in as many ways possible so when the test day comes you will not have any issues. Another thing that is difficult and for me gets in the way of school is having a job.
What does nursing mean to me? Nursing means helping people heal, meeting their needs while they are in your care, listening to concerns, protecting them from harm, and educating them how to care for themselves while treating them with dignity, compassion and respect and giving of yourself to the care of people and community. It is having compassion for people and their health and being a humanitarian, making sure they receive the best care possible. Nurses must also treat families of patients with kindness, realizing they are going through a stressful situation also. Nursing is a responsibility to provide the best care regardless of the patient’s age, race, religion, sex, disability, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or their past.
After my rewarding experience at Dr. Visconti 's clinic, I was hooked and I looked for other volunteer opportunities. Since then, I have coached competitive youth soccer, I volunteered at Capital Care which is an Alzheimer 's and dementia retirement home, I joined the University of Alberta Shinerama club as an executive to raise money for cystic fibrosis research, I have volunteered in the emergency department of a hospital, and more. I perceive myself as someone with many ambitions and interests; and yet, I cannot recall an exact moment when my aspiration for nursing became prevalent. I was involved in a two-year study with my mentor Zhong Qi Cheng, a professor at Brooklyn College, on an alternative treatment of wastewater using Effective Microorganisms (EM-1).
My professional goal is to pursue a Doctor of Nurse Practice degree as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP).
