There were a number of Inequalities that were faced through the 1930’s-60’s. These inequalities can come in many forms, the three main types inequalities that were, and are still faced today are; Racial Inequalities, Gender Inequalities, and Class Inequalities. Through the 1930’s-60’s it was shown that just because you were woman you couldn 't do things that men did; like go to work, or play sports. Having a different last name was also a problem, that just because you had a specific last name you would either be questionably wealthy, poor, or just barely making it. One of the biggest problems in the 1930’s was racial Inequalities, just because you were african american you would be treated lower than whites, whites would be favored by the judes when in trial, african americans would have to stand in different lines than whites, and they would just all around be treated lower than other people just because of the color of their skin. Many of the characters in the novel showed this; Scout’s teacher Miss Caroline, had asked one of her students Walter Cunningham where his lunch had been and Scout had stood from her seat and told Miss Caroline that because he was a Cunningham he wouldn 't have lunch today nor would he have lunch tomorrow. “He had none today nor would he have any tomorrow or the next day.” “ he had probably never seen four quarters together at the same time in his life.” This quote shows that the whole Maycomb town had seen the Cunninghams as poor people, I believe that people may not be very wealthy, but they shouldn 't be called out on it as Scout did to Walter by saying that he would never have any lunch, and that because he’s a Cunningham he would probably never see four quarters at

Lee embraces the idea of nonviolent resistance and shows how sometimes it can be the most powerful influence in change, how hate is not the way, and she pushes the reader to consider their worldview about the differences among people. It is surprising that after all of the obstacles that were put in the way of those that were helping the slaves escape and the runaway slaves that such a high amount of people were actually able to escape enslavement and lead on better lives. Some historians believe that as many as 100,000 slaves escaped via Underground Railroad between the years of 1800 and 1865 alone. While this seems like an extremely high number, in the 1840’s there were over 4 million slaves living in the south. Of those that attempted to escape, a majority of them were caught and returned to their owners. After World War 1, the United States was able to move from war to peace in the 1920s . However, with this transition came racism, the red scare, end of progressivism and bumps within the economy. Domestic problems that the United States had to face was the predicament of African Americans, labor unions that had grown in size and influence , the way that living costs had risen, the Red Scare, etc. For instance, with the tansition from war to peace, the United States had to deal with racism. A type of racism was a hate group known as the KKK (Ku Klux Klan).

Humans live in a world where moral values are very clearly set determining what is good and what is bad. We know what scares us and how racism should be treated.
