The burning of fossil fuels has many negative effects on the earth. Fossil fuels are formed from the remains of dead plants and animals (RelightNY). The combustion of fossil fuels releases a great amount of carbon dioxide into the air, daily. This contributes to global warming. The improper disposal of oil and garbage results in land, water, and air pollution. Renewable energy sources occur naturally and are inexhaustible. They do not originate from fossil or nuclear fuels which make them the ideal solution for the preservation. Only a small percentage of the energy used is supplied by renewable sources. Types of renewable energy sources include wind, wave, solar, tidal, and hydroelectric power. The use of renewable energy sources should …show more content…
During their research, Delucchi and Jacobson stated, “The private costs of generating wind power, geothermal power, and hydropower are less than the costs of conventional fossil-fuel power.” High power bills are always a concern in The Bahamas. By utilizing renewable energy sources, and installing solar panels and windmills, Bahamians will be able to provide energy without the fear of a high power bill at the end of the month. Reducing the use of carbon emissions is often perceived as costly but it has been proven to be quite profitable. Saving and reusing fuel costs less than buying the fuel. In 2009, McKinsey & Company concluded that greenhouse gas emissions could be cut by 70 percent in 16 years at an average cost of $6 per metric ton of carbon dioxide equivalent. “Including newer technologies and integrative designs is a cheaper way to save even more” (Lovins, A. The ozone layer is being destroyed because of the excessive emissions of carbon dioxide. Renewable energy sources will lessen the demand for fossil fuels. Fossil fuels are not only used to supply energy to heat our homes. “[The oils] are also used to make medicines, cosmetics, plastics, synthetic fabrics, and lubricants” (NMoga). If renewable energy resources are not utilized soon, future generations will not have the raw materials needed to manufacture products other than energy. It has been proven that providing energy using solar panels and windmills are cheaper in the long run. Oil can be reused to provide energy and garbage can be heated to produce the steam need to power a whole city. Renewable energy sources should be considered on a larger scale because the greenhouse gases are destroying the ozone layer, power bills will be lower, and renewable resources are just as, if not more effective than traditional methods of generating
This argument is supported by a list of examples showing the negative effects of the fossil fuel burned for oil demand. For example, “sea level rise, global temperature, and ocean acidification” (Hart, 26). This list of information is cited from NASA, and Hart invites the reader to further look at NASA’s research. This shows he gets his information from a government funded research base, and provides further information for the reader. He then further discusses the affect burning fossil fuel has on global warming.
By reinforcing laws and increasing the number of professional government inspectors, any loopholes and acts of bribery can be eliminated. Although regulating the carbon dioxide levels is important, nonetheless, nothing can truly be achieved if production has to stay the same while demand increases; thus, to make this scheme effective, a greener, renewable energy source is needed. Alternative energy is always a subject that is almost completely ignored by the Republicans, but mentioned by a handful of Democrats. But so far any significant effort, such
I. Introduction Long ago, since ancient time humans have been using energy and striving for the betterment of themselves, it all began with the use of tools which led to the discovery of fire, from this great breakthrough, humans evolved exponentially. Eons have passed and humans are still using fire to ease their daily lives from cooking, mobility and electricity, but due to the increase in advancement of technologies, it has also increased damages to the planet, thus the governments had started to move towards a producing or replacing the old harmful substance to a less harmful ones, but since one of the most used and one of the highest cause of ozone depletion is chlorofluorocarbon (CFC), it has been banned from production due to the Montreal Protocol 1991, one of the causes as to why it was banned is one of the chemicals it contain is chlorine, once a certain condition is met it depletes the ozone layer, ergo with earth shield compromised more harmful ultraviolet rays will get into the planet, thus only the reservoir of CFC are being used today, now it’s a race against time to replace this CFC with other materials that is less harmful and either as or more efficient than it. There are not a lot of ways to replace chlorofluorocarbon. Some of the most prominent ones are hydrochlorofluorocarbon (HCFC), hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) and magneto caloric effect (MCE).
Unfortunately, fossil fuel is the primary cause of pollution. Pollution caused by fossil fuel, causes acid rain and global warming. Global warming affects humans and animals as well with the climate changes due to the burning of fossil fuels. In contrast to fossil fuels, solar energy is
Imagine a world where we have used up all of our nonrenewable resources and no longer have gas to power our cars, no coal to make energy, and no natural gas to power you household items. Well it might not be too hard to imagine, because it is predicted that in less than 75 years we will use up all of our natural gas, oil, and coal deposits. This is just one of many reasons that the government needs to put more funding into green energy. They not only need funding to find new sources of renewable energy but they also need to invest more in products that produce clean energy like solar panels, windmills, and turbines in dams. Climate change has been a center of attention for many years now, however it seems that very few changes have been made to slow or stop it.
The company has set confident and meaningful targets with regard to reducing its CO2 emissions and development of different sources of energy such as solar power. However,
Angel Hsu A block Solar Energy 12/22/2015 “Because we are now running out of gas and oil, we must prepare quickly for a third change, to strict conservation and to the use of coal and permanent renewable energy resources, like solar power. ”(Jimmy Carter, televised speech,1977) Just like what he said, we should develop other energy than fossil fuel because we will run out of it some days and fossil fuels are the main reason of global climate change.
Although the scientists in the 1900s had warned the world about the shortage, many people still refuse to accept the idea that they will eventually be eventually using solar power as the only option. And each year, the debt from the consumer rate increases for every electricity company. For instance, as
Environment- The replacement of fossil fuels with renewable energy (UCSUSA, 2013) will cause a decrease in CO2 emissions which will decrease pollution. By using renewable energy sources like solar energy, we also reduce our dependence on fossil fuel gas and oil reserves, which are becoming more expensive and difficult to find. It also reduces our dependence on imported fossil fuels, improving our energy security. Economic-
Hydropower 4) Geothermal 5) Solar All electricity sources, renewable and nonrenewable, have advantages and deficiencies. Factors are includes: • Maintenance cost • Feasibility analysis. • Initial cost.
Fossil fuels Fossil fuels are NOT a renewable energy resource it will finish up one day As once we 've burned them all, there isn 't any more, and our consumption of fossil fuels has nearly doubled every 20 years since 1900. This is a particular problem for Oil, because we also use it to make plastics and many other products Coal, Oil and Gas are called "fossil fuels" because they have been formed from the fossilized remains of prehistoric plants and animals.
Almost none of the fuel sources that we could use provide Co2 or other pollutants. Economic values could also come from renewable energy. Most of the Energy projects are located away from big cities. These benefits could bring local service as well as tourism. Although the pros are very big there are some cons.
Sustainability: If you take a look around at what’s really happening in our world, there’s an inescapable pattern of ‘what’s going on is simply unsustainable’ and in other words, it can’t go on for much longer. Sustainability is to “meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”. As cities began to grow with the population increase, the need for a sustainable development became more apparent as resources began to diminish in quantity and value. Left to it’s own devices, the Earth is a sustainable system.
Renewable energy is generally defined as energy that comes from resources which are naturally replenished on a human timescale such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides, waves, and geothermal heat. It is the energy which is abundant in nature. The sun is the ultimate source of energy. Almost all the energy that we use eventually comes from the Sun. The exception is the heat of radioactivity deep inside the Earth, which is ultimately responsible for processes taking place inside the Earth.
this damage will have devastating consequences for future human generations all other life of earth yet we continue to use fossil fuels. This is for a few reasons, firstly we are so reliant of them that it will be impossible to completely change to renewables overnight . fossil fuels are still the cheapest form of energy available so why would individual people and business chose otherwise to put money into renewable research,, well governments around world have realised the danger of global warming and they know an overnight switch is impossible so the have implemented taxes on fossil fuels and inefficient use of them and put this money into renewable energy research, also provided grants and tax breaks for people and business that are switching to renewables. these actions will slowly make renewable energy more cost effective and appealing to everyone and will move the world away from fossil fuels and towards renewable green energy sources. Similarly with stem cell research i think the potential medical benefits of mastering stem cell therapies is just too big.
