Night Essay Why is it so important that we remember the Holocaust and how can we make sure future generations never forget? Hatred or prejudice of Jews, has distressed the world for a long time, particularly during the Holocaust. In the novella “Night” Elie Wiesel, the narrator and the Holocaust survivor, experienced Hitler’s hatred first handed as him and his family were shipped off to the concentration camps. For Wiesel, he would never see his mother and young sister again, he and his father would ender harsh days and weeks within the camp walls. In the end Elie’s father died of dysentery, and Elie was liberated by Allies. In Night, Elie emphasize the important history of the Holocaust and the significance of remembering all that the Jewish people encountered. One of Elie’s main focuses in the novel Night is on the history of the Holocaust. By giving us clear details, we, as the reader, are able to see the events that took place during this time. Elie wants us to see and understand that these horrific events took place over the cours of the Holocaust. Elie states, “Humanity, Humanity is not concerned with us. Wiesel, as a Holocaust survivor did not want to fail to remember the conditions that he had been through. The narrator said, “I shall never forget Juliek. How could I forget that concert, given to an audience of dying and dead men! To this day, whenever I hear Beethoven played my eyes close and out of the dark rises the sad, pale face my polish friend, as he said farewell on his violin to an audience of dying men” (70). With this in mind, Elie did not escape from remembering what he was going through. He still remembers his polish friend Juliek, because he is one of the people who made a footprint in Wiesel’s heart by just playing Beethoven. In contrast, things end. But memories last
