When a person responds to conflict in a positive way, not only will it set an example for others, but will also share that positive mood with others and can help people resolve a conflict quicker. By resolving conflict with a positive or happy attitude will also help someone keep a good demeanor after the conflict is settled. Another way positive emotions can spread is through team sports. One example of this is, “Similar results have been found in team sports. When a team is upbeat, positive, and in an overall good mood, this spirit is transferred to individual players. Results also show that when teams are happier, the athletes on the team tend to play better” (Carter) Since emotions can be showed in many ways and spread very easily, other people can pick up emotions as fast as the person who developed them. If a team is doing bad, and a few members seem down, those emotions may spread to the rest of the team and would affect how they would play. More studies have been done and scientists have found out that “...happy people tend to be in the center of their social networks and that happiness branches out as they join together with other happy people. They report that each additional happy friend increases your probability of being happy by about 9 percent” (Carter). Friends hang out together mostly because they make each other happy and having more happy people around would make a person
Having self-confidence helps bond with the team, and makes it easier to work together. Kent Page McGroaty says, "teamwork is essential to a good performance from any sports team, professional or not, and is a great way to teach children certain life lessons, such as cooperating well with others and taking responsibility for actions." Lastly, one way to gain teamwork is by helping out a player. This way, the players work with one another, and they help out the team.
I think the most important conflict in the novel, A Lesson Before Dying is person versus self (Grant versus self). Grant struggles with self-doubt, unsure if what he is doing within his community is truly making a difference. This uncertainty is evident when Grant questions himself in relation to his teaching at the local church, “What am I doing? Am I reaching them at all?... Is it just a vicious circle?
It also provides good memories to last a long time. Studies show that people who attend a sporting event and cheer for their team in a positive way experience an improved sense of wellbeing ("The Role of Social Support"). Research has also revealed that watching sports can have a positive effect, not only on those watching, but on those playing, as well ("The Role of Social Support”). By showing your support for a team, you can help to increase the players’ motivation and inspire them to perform better ("The Role of Social Support"). Supporting a team can create a positive experience for both the spectators and the players, and it’s an activity that can foster a sense of unity among
Positive emotions like happiness, contentment, and joy help us develop stability and optimism, deepen social connections, and encourage a sense of purpose and meaning in life. They can give us the motivation and energy to achieve our goals, pursue our passions, and help us navigate difficult situations more quickly and confidently. Negative emotions like anger, sadness, and fear are vital. They can help us identify areas of our lives that need attention or change and motivate us to take action. Studies have shown that individuals who can acknowledge and process negative emotions in healthy and constructive ways experience greater psychological well-being and resilience.
In Kate Murphy’s passage of “Do Your Friends ActuallyLike You?”She states that “friends are people you take the time to understand and allow to understand you. ”(2) With the more time they spend together, they become closer and more connected. In addition, making friends can also help to correlate with better social skills, problem/conflict resolution, etc.
Positivity can affect not only one’s self, but those around them as well. In the face of responding to conflict, positivity can reduce stress and anxiety, help health, and provide a better environment. During times of conflict, positivity has been proven to reduce both stress and anxiety. In an article from the Mayo Clinic Staff, they commented that “Indeed, some studies show that personality traits such as optimism and pessimism can affect many areas of your well-being” (Mayo Clinic Staff).
Living long, healthy lives is a massive focus of many Americans today, while on the contrary, focusing on happiness does not truly bring happiness to one 's life. Experiencing other emotions such as sadness, fear, and anger are as important in life as happiness. In the article “Don’t Worry, Be Gloomy” author Susan David states, “While it is certainly not healthy to constantly stew in negative emotions, there are some positive things that sadness, anger, guilt or fear can do” (126). David gives five reasons bad news can be good news: Helps form arguments; Improves memory; Encourages perseverance; Ups generosity; and Boosts ability to reason.
In the article named “Benefits of Teamwork In Sports.” the author, Wade Harle showed how learning to cooperate with others towards a certain goal in youth sports is what builds character, friendship and important life skills for players and also coaches. The friendships built throughout a team can last a lifetime for some players, and the journey of a team throughout a season is often stuck in your memory for a lengthy period of time. Also found in that article is, the teamwork in sports offer a way for kids to compete for something together. Throughout history, we have had to deal with conflict. How we deal with conflict can be most challenging of all. We all can find our strength to make it through treacherous times. A positive attitude can help a tremendous amount when dealing with conflict. An example of this can be found in The Diary of Anne Frank.
The rise in violent conflicts between the citizens of the United States and the police is the issue that I want to solve. Due to my own age, race and gender, I am very well aware that I may be personally and directly impacted by this issue. The interaction between people of color and law enforcement in America is a key aspect of this larger issue. This issue has two main viewpoints: (1) that of people of color and, (2) that of law enforcement. While these two viewpoints overlap and intersect at several points, I believe them to be separate problems, each caused by different things.
Out of all types of conflict, those that exist between a person and himself can prove to be the toughest to overcome. This is because one can only rely on himself to solve the problem. In “The Life You Save May be Your Own” by Flannery O’Connor, the major conflicts resides within Mr. Shiftlet. This man vs. self conflict involves the struggle in which he tries to overcome his evil ways, but continues to fail in the shadows of his own selfishness. He attempts to undertake good deeds to help others such as the Craters with their house work and the wandering boy with advice, but continues to fall short even by the end of the story.
Self Hypnosis Taking a skills training approach, I train my clients in self-hypnosis, what are essentially self-help techniques. The techniques used are based on validated research findings, which reveal that problems or disturbances are consequences of destructive and problematic forms of self-hypnosis. Self hypnosis is that internal chattering or self-talk which we all experience in our minds. It can be referred to in a number of ways including cognitions, autosuggestion, self-talk, self-suggestion, self-statements, self-instructions, automatic thoughts etc. Too frequently, internal hypnotic-like talk, these self-suggestions which drive us, influencing our emotions and behaviour, remains for the most part unchallenged.
