Robots: A Hero’s Journey If there is a story, there will be a hero. A hero usually takes center stage in a work and entertains the audience with their spectacular characterization that illuminates them to be far more engaging than the remainder of the cast. Most heroes fall into a mold that transcribes them with a society’s desired traits. Often times a hero gleams with characteristics of being brave, charismatic, funny, driven, and just. One could look anywhere to locate a hero, yet the movie Robots offers up an elite example heroism with the main character Rodney. Even as a child, Rodney was fully capable of pioneering new ideas that devoted people like his father believed in; however Rodney’s true potential to lead came roughly halfway into his journey when he met his new group of associates. These outdated automatons aimlessly sought the meager components of survival; they would not dare to dream of a more ideal world in such an oppressive environment. Most robots slowly decayed as spare parts became more and more sparse. The hardworking Rodney stole the opportunity and decided to use his self-attained gifts to benefit the people around him. The repairs to the robots, rebuilt the community’s enthusiasm, and soon people thought beyond survival. They longed to have more than the bare minimum and near unanimously decided to stand up for themselves against a greater power. Rodney’s action inspired a collection of people to revolutionize their society much like many great leaders from history. It was not just a kind act that gave Rodney the recognition, but the people saw potential and capability of change within him. Rodney’s actions and effects subsequently repeat themselves on a much larger scale at the movie’s climax. With the villain standing at full force boasting about a new found power, Rodney makes his final stand with a rag-tag group of individuals against impossible odds. His followers stand by him and follow his lead even in the face of death; this brave scene further inspires a complete anarchy among the townsfolk. These people who just let the wind blow are prepared to risk their lives for their beliefs entirely thanks to Rodney’s presence. He inspired the faith of people from just a few bold actions; his leader-like qualities and momentous actions toward freedom let him easily cement himself as a hero in robot
There are many traits possessed by those called heroes. Whether it is in real life or in fiction, in the past, present, and future every hero desires these character: traits intelligence, bravery, and honesty. “Montag picked a single small volume from the floor. Where do we begin? He opened the book halfway and peered at it.
Heroism in our culture could be very misinterpreted. People tend to think that hero’s need to be perfect because they are role models, saviors, or peacemakers. An example of a hero for me is Josh Hamilton, an outfielder for the Texas Rangers. Josh Hamilton started out as a power hitting prospect for the Tampa Bay Rays but struggled with addictions to drugs. He spent a short stint for the Reds before the Texas Rangers picked him up.
Writer and lecturer, Joseph Campbell once said; “A hero is someone who has give his or her life to something bigger than oneself”. In addition to this quote, the significance of heroes in this modern society is growing, but these heroes exemplify various traits that are bold and noticeable. In fact, heroes portray simple, yet gallant traits that most things don’t have. Accordingly, today’s inspirations are highly unique, and they deliver ideals of courage and motivation to many. First and foremost, heroes have a determined mindset that ordinary people do not have.
A famous actor Christopher Reeve once said, “A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to preserve and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.” Being heroic does not always mean you’re special or well known. Since a hero shows determination, it drives them to help others and go beyond what’s expected of them. Heroes are people who go beyond expectations.
Do you have to be famous to be a hero? Do you have to have billions of dollars to be a hero? Do you have to have superpowers to be a hero? No, you don’t have to have billions of dollars or superpowers to be a hero.
As humans, we tend to idolize people from all over the world for their remarkable qualities, bravery, actions, skills, leadership or ways of life. These people are often referred to as heroes, whether it is a leader, Superman, or a local community hero, they all share something in common, and it’s not a cape. What makes each of these people heroes? Their extraordinary character traits set them apart from their less noteworthy peers. While there is a myriad of traits that heroes possess, the most significant ones are their bravery, their willingness to ask for help, and their strength to always do what is honorable.
What is a hero? To most, it’s probably the classic superhero- the one with superpowers and can fly. To others, it might be a fictional character with a magic wand or a demigod in a prophecy. To some, it might be a real life person- a famous one or the ones who raised you.
In the book To Kill A Mockingbird Jeremy Atticus Finch shows that he is heroic. There are numerous ways he shows this. He keeps calm when in a dangerous situation. Jem also is brave and courageous. Jem puts other first and he protects others.
Patrick lin makes the reader think and analyze the possible outcome of the robotic industry. As stated in the essay “With the new development of robotics, it almost makes you do some soul searching on what really makes us human.” His humorous idea about robots overthrowing the world is funny, but, when you think about in a real standpoint and how technology is being made to have a mind of its own, it’s not a far-fetched
In “Better than Human”, Kelly mentions that it will be a trend for robots to replace humans on most, or even every working position in the near future as a outcome of the development of automaton-related technology. “We need to let robots take over”, Kelly assures, “they will do jobs we have been doing, and do them much better than we can (Kelly 311)”. With his observation of the invention of Baxter, he is persuaded in a great extent that humans will acquire new jobs as their old jobs get replaced by automatons. This newly invented robot surprisingly contains several epochal features, disregarding its extremely low price compared to its predecessors. With its benefits, Baxter can be promoted easily and applied to many industries, decreasing the costs of production and even re-generating the market eventually.
The author's purpose in writing “Robot Invasion” was to represent the effectiveness and relevance of robots in today’s society. The author is able to persuade the reader that robots are beneficial to society by stating statements such as “the robots will be able to unleash a productive boom”. This statement from the author really exemplifies the positive impact that robots have on our everyday lives by making our everyday tasks easier and having robots be the productive
“For if a machine had broken down, it would have been quickly replaced. But who can replace a man” (Aldiss, 142). This quote shows that the had previously relied on them for an important task. Throughout the story, some might be confused as to whether or not the robots are free of their programming to the point where they do not listen to humans. At the very end of the story, Aldiss writes: “‘Get me food’ he croaked.”
A world of robots working in factories, markets, schools, companies, and limited amount of work space for humans that’s what is going on. The things we saw in movies and what we were dreaming is all becoming reality. Recently, technology has been improving in a very rapid pace. Technology, such as smart phones, tablets, and television, made our lives easier and more convenient. Now people can click a button and deliver food or items they want anywhere.
Many jobs have become easier by being replaced by robots. Robot are not just the idea of talking mechanical parts as we see in futuristic movies. There are a variety of different types of robotic machines, great majority of them appear in factories and in science technology work fields. Robots in factories help replace a dangerous parts of a job. However, there have been different perspective with robots replacing jobs.
There are many definitions of life that can confuse the characteristics of what is actually alive and what is inanimate. This confusion arises when inanimate objects such as cars, robots, and other mechanically produced objects claim to have life which is the “the property resembling animate existence, said to be possessed by inanimate material as a result of an artistic process” (O.E.D). Robots can be programmed to have memories, and manufactured to mimic human behavior however they will never be truly human nor have life because they are not connected to themselves or other robots. The first distinction that needs to be stated is that to be alive does not mean to have human existence. Personal stories and memories—aura—are important characteristics
