Aesop once said, “No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted” (Aesop). Any type of volunteering or service, however small or large, a person would want to participate in, the Salvation Army probably offers it. The Salvation Army’s goals and works, what volunteers do to contribute, and the benefits of volunteering with the organization are all reasons a person would want to assist with their missions and purpose. The Salvation Army’s mission statement states, “Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination” (The Salvation Army). The Salvation Army not only strives to meet the needs of anyone who needs help, but also does so in the name of Jesus Christ. Many services …show more content…
The Salvation Army does not have requirements a person has to meet in order to help the organization (The Salvation Army). Many people get involved with Salvation Army by visiting their local office or store and asking what needs to be done in the community. Financial support, such as online donations, planned giving, wills, and gift annuities, go a long way in helping the Salvation Army with its efforts. Another way that I have been personally involved is item donation. When my family and I decide it is time to clean out our closets, we carry our lightly used clothes to the Salvation Army store in Houston. Along with clothing donations, one can also donate things all the way from cars to furniture and household goods (The Salvation Army). If a person would rather get involved instead of just donating, the organization is completely open to that too. In addition to the activities listed that the Salvation Army welcomes people to volunteer with, there are community care ministries. These ministries are for people of all ages and backgrounds to learn how to love and care for people through acts of service. The Salvation Army achieves this by providing educational institutes, motivational dialogue, and interaction. Nearly 3.4 million people volunteered with their organization in 2012, but they are in constant need for more. A way to discover what is going on in one’s community is to use Volunteer …show more content…
Just in Northeast Mississippi, the Salvation Army has made a monumental influence. Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary raised $53,000 through March’s Empty Bowls fundraiser in 2014. Major Sue Dorman of the Salvation Army stated that the check would go towards its food pantry but only covers about half of the budget. This individual unit provides lunch five days a week all year (Manning). With the many different programs, a person could become experienced in almost any field he or she wanted. Going home after a day of volunteering to help people not quite as well off as oneself is always a wonderful feeling. Meeting all kinds of different people could help anyone at becoming a more-rounded, gregarious person. Every time a person volunteers in a way that involves other people, he or she is making an impact on someone’s life. Just knowing that encourages one to volunteer more and to continue to better themselves and the world around them. All of these different opportunities provide any kind of volunteering a person could want to
I plan on volunteering for many different organizations, that I am both currently working with, and plan to. For example, I participate in volunteer events for Special Olympic games, The Everett Theater, and St. Joseph’s Parish. By helping
The systems we have put in place to ensure individuals and families do not fall into destitution often fail to do the job; with people struggling without the necessities of life for too long (HungerCount, 2014). Therefore, the Salvations Army food banks can be seen as a Social Economy institution for many reasons. J.J. McMurtry argues that the Social Economy is based on the community and the individual. He says "people participate in the social economy-not to be non-profit or non-state per se, but to actually make a difference in their own lives and in the lives of other, to build community of one sort or another" (J.J. McMurtry, Pg 30). Salvation Army food banks are predominantly made to focus its attention on communities.
I'm not going to ask you to donate money. I know thats not possible for every person. But we can still help by donating items that women and children need when going to the shelter. This includes clothes, food, hygiene products, and more. A simple box or bag of old clothes
People are always volunteering to go help at nursing homes, Salvation
If I had $1000 to give to charity, I would donate the funds to my local Salvation Army in Manitowoc, WI. I have volunteered for this organization and I know how dedicated they are to serving the people and needs of the Manitowoc community. Since the volunteers and employees of Salvation Army chapters live in the community that they serve, they have an increased responsibility and commitment to their community that is evident through the way this organization is run. For example, when there became a need for affordable day care in the Manitowoc community, The Salvation Army started a day care center to meet this need. Thus, in addition to the trademark services associated with The Salvation Army, such as their Christmas drive and food pantry,
Froats,1 How does Salvation Army offer help during Christmas? The salvation army supports the community many different ways during the christmas holidays. They have a annual “Fill the Kettle for Christmas” there is also a “Santa Shuffle” to raise money, and there is also a Christmas hamper program.
The organization aims to ‘balance the playing field’ between current conditions (rising homeless populations’) and desired conditions (everyone can be a functioning, productive member of society). By achieving this goal the nonprofit validates the ‘need’ for its organizations existence. The Salvation Army US (2018) describes the purpose/goals of their organization as follows: “We work with councils and local providers to cater to the immediate needs of people affected by homelessness, signposting other services they can access. We act as a bridge between vulnerable adults and the help they need by taking time to listen (The Salvation Army, 2018, paragraph 1).”
Is there anyone that are around you who are in poverty and don’t have all the necessities they need? That’s why we have the Salvation Army, the Salvation Army helps those who need help around the household or who don’t have their natural necessities. The purpose of this charity is to feed, clothe, and care for those who need help. The Salvation Army helps fix broken lives and broken homes.
All around the whole world you can find charities for the less fortunate. There are charities for the hungry, the homeless, and for the sick people suffering in hospitals. At my church my pastor visits people in the hospital and prays for them to get better. My youth group does blood drives for the hungry and homeless twice a year. We also go up to Carpenteria and do ministry for the children up there.
Ivan Illich’s speech to the Conference on InterAmerican Student Projects entitled To Hell With Good Intentions is ironic, seeing as he criticizes humanitarian efforts in Mexico and Latin America to the people who volunteer to help these impoverished countries. His opposition to missionaries does not stem from personal views against helping others; rather, from the impact that is actually made upon these nations. Illich’s message that American missionaries are harmful despite their good intentions should be taken to heart by all American aid workers in order to reduce the negative impact of boasting American culture into impoverished Latin American nations. My initial reaction to Illich’s speech was one of disbelief—not at the subject matter itself, but at the audience to whom the subject matter was delivered. Making such a statement at a convention of American missionaries is a bold move, and was surely met with mixed reactions from those in attendance.
Nearly half of America’s food goes to waste every year. Feeding America is an organization that specializes in fighting hunger and helping people that don’t have food. 42 million people face hunger in the U.S. today including nearly 13 million children and more than five million seniors. Hunger knows no boundaries, it touches every community in the U.S., including your own. Volunteers power the Feeding America network.
Salvation Army branches offer food to those who don’t have the money to acquire it on their own, offering aide to people from families to the homeless. While many charities have similar goals to Salvation Army, the Salvation Army is one of the most well-established charities of its
Our group has decided to volunteer with Feed My Starving Children(FMSC) which was founded in 1987. Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) is a Christian non-profit organization that provides nutritionally complete meals specifically formulated for malnourished children. Its mission is to feed God’s starving children in different countries who are hungry in body and spirit. Their process is simple. Donations from people fund the meal ingredients and volunteers hand-pack the meals.
I. For your information, volunteering is where, we are willing to do something without get any force from anyone else. II. The effects of volunteering can range from many helpful characteristics. From helping those in need, giving back to the community, working for worthwhile causes, and overall helping someone with their health, mentally and physically. Volunteering can affect many people in different ways, but what most do not know is that it can help with
