The Millennial generation are enslaved to modern society. Millennials, similar to the slaves were born into a society that ¨¨...dealt them a bad hand¨¨(Mertz,2016). It is obvious that it is a lesser version of that but many times in Frederick Douglass's autobiography, it shows overwhelming similarities to modern-day society. Although unconventional, Millennials are a modern-day enslaved group. The mistreatment of young people must be addressed and stopped. They are more ¨enslaved¨ than humanity realize or care to notice. Technology is a main contributor to the enslavement of the Millennial generation. As stated by Ian Bremmer, ¨Millennials are the digital pioneers¨ (2016). Doctors tend to pass out pills like candy. Many drug addicted millennials are not gonna turn down that opportunity. It is a travesty that they could supply the whole U.S adult population their own bottle of pills. The US is top in the world for pill distribution, these are pills that people ¨need¨ but most of the time people take pills for the side-effects of pills. People are tricked into this and most do not realize they are trapped in a vicious circle with Big Pharma. Pills are a necessity for most people so they take it as the doctor prescribes but, a lot of the time, it is way more than they actually need. ¨Of the 20.5 million Americans 12 or older that had a substance use disorder in 2015, 2 million had a substance use disorder involving prescription pain relievers and 591,000 had a substance use disorder involving heroin.¨(Opioid Addiction Facts and Figures, 2016).
