Why books shouldn’t be banned There have been recent talks about the banning of books throughout school districts. Especially this book titled Night by Elie Wiesel which was based on the events that happened in Germany and the Jewish community in WWII. In this book, it shows a first-hand perspective of a boy named Eliezer and what he witnessed before, during, and after WWII. Without books such as these, how would we know the true horrors? Even though some people believe that books should be banned because of the spread of false information and explicit content; however, books shouldn’t be banned because it may cause ignorance and it limits perspective. If the book Night is banned it can cause ignorance in kids. Based on chapter 1, it shows the beginning of what Elie is going through like how when the Hungarian police were acting all nice until suddenly they became aggressive when transporting Jews to the ghettos. Or in chapters 2 and 3 when the SS officers began to hit people in the cattle crafts and divided men and women after …show more content…
According to the text in chapters 5 and 6, Elie tells his story about the begging of the end of the Jewish prisoners being sent off running to an unknown destination as stated at the end of chapter 5. In chapters 6 and 7, the story talks about how Elie and the other Jews were forced to keep running and if they stopped they would be shot down. And in chapter 8 when they finally reached their destination in Buchenwald they were told to take showers so they could be burned in the crematorium. Some people might have thought during WWII it was just all about the fighting and the effect on us as Americans. But most people won't look deeper into the effects of the Jewish people that were being eradicated just because the germans didn’t want there to be evidence of what they were doing to these innocent
He then portrays his day by day life and the severity of the death camp. He depicts the savage beatings, hard work, starvation, the passing, and loss of his confidence. Elie repudiates his confidence in God and lives for his father's purpose. He then tells how the SS powers expected that the Russians were progressing and they must be moved. Elie portrays the "Passing March" to Buchenwald.
In the text, Elie talks about what things he will never forget about his first night in camp and he states “Never shall I forget those flames that consumed my faith forever….Never shall I forget those moments that murdered my God and my soul and turned my dreams to ashes.” (Wiesel 34) this shows how on the first night in Auschwitz that he starts to question why his god would let something like this happen and he starts to lose faith that his life will get better. While Elie was in the Buna camp he and the other prisoners were forced to watch the
In the book Night, we the readers witness the hardships and struggles in Elie’s life during the traumatic holocaust. The events that take place in this story are unbearable and are thought to be demented in modern times. In the beginning Elie is shown as a normal teenage Jewish boy, but the events are so drastic that we the readers forget how he was like in the beginning. Changes were made to Elie during the book, whether they were minor or major. The changes generated from himself, the journey, and other people.
When Elie finally arrives at Auschwitz, the sights he sees are horrendous. Immediately he sees “Infants tossed into the air and used as targets for the medicine guns” (Wiesel, Night 6). Elie’s first impression of Buchenwald is infants being brutally murdered. I can’t imagine how terrified he is to continue further into camp. The Germans were extremely insensitive towards the Jews and their feelings.
Dear School board Everyone should have an open censorship because it affects our society by opening our perspective. Censorship is a suppression of words, ideas, that are “inappropriate” or offensive. The novel “Night” by Ellie Wiesel is a novel about the times during World War ll following concentration camps with the Nazis, therefore I believe this book shouldn't be banned. Even though some may believe “Night” should be removed due to its “violence” and “sensitive” topic; however this book informs and educates the topic of what really went on during World War ll. This book goes on to tell from Ellis' first point of view in which he describes the tragic events that happened to him.
First, Elie talks about Madame Schacter who kept screaming “Fire” (Wiesel 25) which annoyed and frightened the passengers. Because of this, they tied her up and then beat her. Next, Elie talks about Bela Katz faced the inhumanity of the Nazies because he was “forced to place his own father’s body”(Wiesel 35) into the crematory furnace. Lastly, Elie talks about his cousin Stein of Antwerp kept looking for the transports that might bring news of his wife and children. One day a transport from Antwerp arrived, and Elie knew that “he had been given the news.
Books with topics on real world situations can “help young people better understand the world they live in, the human condition, and issues they face in their culture” (Source E). Learning and understanding the world that these students live in can help them become a better member of society. They can learn about how their words and actions have consequences and that not everyone is going to agree with them. Parents are always trying to teach their children these lessons, but by banning fiction books with these topics are making it harder to understand.
I am writing to strongly argue against the banning of the book "Night" by Elie Wiesel from the high school curriculum. This book is a powerful and important work of literature that provides invaluable insights into one of the darkest periods in human history, and banning it from the curriculum would be a grave disservice to the students. "Night" is a memoir that tells the story of Elie Wiesel's experiences as a Jewish teenager during the Holocaust. It describes the horrors of the Nazi concentration camps and the profound loss and suffering that he and his fellow prisoners endured. While the book is undeniably difficult and disturbing to read, it is also a profoundly moving and insightful work that forces us to confront the worst aspects of humanity
Some people believe books should not banned in schools/libraries because every book can teach a lesson. One reason books should not be banned is because books can teach a lesson. Books can teach a lesson by, “As soon as Jonas was assigned as Giver he didn’t realize the responsibility.” (The Giver).
At this point in the story, they have arrived at the concentration camp. Elie and his father have been separated from Elie’s mother and sisters. He has been told by another person that he is now 18 not 15. This saves his life. He then sees the crematorium where all the other deportees are being burned alive.
When one hears about "banned books" you immediately assume there is a list filled with scandalous and provocative books. You think of the book equivalent of R rated movies. Imagine my surprise when the children 's book To Kill a Mockingbird is on the list. This classic teaches many different lessons, so it 's hard to believe that it is banned for things like race relations and rape. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee most often gets challenged on account of the discussion and issue of rape and profanity.
The Impact of Book Bans on Humanity's Progress and Potential Consequences Is banning books good for humanity or can it lead to bigger problems? By banning books, it will cut away certain things that a child could learn from, just like the literary value and in “One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest” by Ken Kesey. Some can be bad and lead to unpleasant habits, but they can also be taken as a lesson and be learned from. Kesey uses a lot of literary value in his novel, but Kesey’s novel should not be taught in schools because the use of objectionable material outweighs the use of literary value in which can lead to children using those objectionable material in reality. Kesey’s novel is an engrossing book that is set inside a “Oregon State Hospital”
In the story night, Elie had to face so many challenges like seeing people die from starvation being beaten and so much more. He had to leave his mom and sister behind and watched so many friends die. We, kids, need to read the book night so we can feel the same pain he had to go through and be able to relate to him at that moment in the story. In passage one, the Jews were forced to get off trains and dig big holes in the ground until they were tired. The Jews didn't realize they dug holes for the children.
Elie Wiesel’s Night should not be banned from the book list for ninth grade because it is a book that teaches very important lessons despite the fact that it contains violent scenes. The book shows that we should treat people in a good way even if they are not like us. It reveals the horrible consequences of inhumanity, the meaningless suffering and unbearable pain of innocent people. These reasons show that the book is very important for the grown-ups because it deals with fundamental questions about humanity and moral values.
Once liberated from these concentration camps, Elie has done much to make people around the world more aware of the indescribable events that occurred during his time in these camps, and make sure that people will speak out against these events instead of staying silent, so that these events may be prevented in the future. He wrote many pieces and delivered many speeches in attempt to lift the world out of indifference. I believe that Elie’s novel Night communicates his message more effectively than his speech, Perils of Indifference. Not only does it convey his message of that we all must speak out against
