How can society advance peace when one tyrant wants to use pure evil as persuasion? In the play Macbeth (written by Shakespeare) and the acts of Osama Bin Laden, one statement that is heard from everyone is that “one must fall, for others to progress”. Macbeth and Osama Bin Laden both rose to power through intimidation and pure violence. Both political leaders had no limits to how far they’d use violence in order to obtain a certain status or objective. In this analysis, the reader will able to see how history repeats itself through the actions that take place before/during their rise to power, the influence they had on other people, and most of all, how they’re downfall saved society. With Macbeth being a general in the Scottish military, he had major influences on people and their daily lives. After the murder of King Duncan, Banquo’s suspicion of who committed the murders arose around a single suspect, Macbeth. Knowing that Banquo most likely knew the truth that Macbeth killed King Duncan, Macbeth went back to his evil ways with ease. Through his attendant, Macbeth summons three murderers. Shakespeare introduces the murders with stage direction “[Re-enter Attendant, with two Murderers]” (Shakespeare, 363), in which Macbeth he uses Banquo as bait in order to gain their graces and loyalty “That it was he in the times past which held you so under fortune, which you thought had been our innocent self: this I made good to you in our last conference, pass'd in probation with you, how you were borne in hand, how cross'd, the instruments, who wrought with them, and all things else that might, so half a soul and to a notion crazed, Say 'Thus did Banquo.'” (Shakespeare, 363). The murderers were convinced by Macbeth that Banquo was the cause of all their misery in their lives, but that Macbeth fought for their freedom and wanted to relinquish them from their crimes. By the end of discussion, the murderers are so willing and confident in murdering Banquo, with the false knowledge that once he is dead, their lives can really start. Macbeth truly had influence over the murderers. He not only altered their own point of views of Banquo, he convinced them to murder Banquo in the middle of the night. All though, many people would say Osama Bin Laden was more then a terrorist, he was a menace who changed the future in security and safety world. These evil acts are caused by their ambition and thirst for power. These stories prove that when people gain power they aren’t satisfied and feel the need to acquire more. Consequently, their personalities drastically change along the way. Jack remains sane, however he becomes a bloodthirsty, savage tyrant while Macbeth becomes an insane, delusional tyrant. Both of these characters become drastically more evil throughout their stories.
In the play, Macbeth fears that Banquo will expose him of the crimes that he has committed. If Banquo tells on Macbeth for killing Duncan, then it will ruin Macbeth's chances of being king. After hearing this from Macbeth the murderer's mindset seems to be changed from thinking that it is manly to not kill Banquo to more on the side of Macbeth's belief. “So weary with disasters, tugged with fortune, / That I would set my life on any chance, / To mend it or be rid on‘t. ”(Shakespeare 3.1.111-113). Through the murderer's expression of hopelessness, we see a complete switch in the opinion of the murderers.

In both One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest by Ken Kesey and Macbeth by Shakespeare, the protagonists are anything but static. Both Randle McMurphy and Macbeth go through trials and tribulations that reveal what their true mettles are as characters. Even though they both go through their own hardships, they also have opposite (not exactly opposing) influences that help shape their decisions and allow them to grow as characters. In spite of their similar upbringing, such influences manage to lead both characters down totally diverging paths. Chief of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and Lady Macbeth of Macbeth act as character foils to quicken their protagonist’s development whether for better (McMurphy) or for worse (Macbeth).

Macbeth is full of treasons, mistrust, and murder. In the beginning, Macbeth and Banquo are brothers in arms or best friends who fight to protect their king. Throughout the play, they start to drift apart as Macbeth plans to murder Duncan to gain the last part of the weird sisters prophecy. The exact moment Macbeth kills Duncan; Banquo and Macbeth become foils to one another.
