Before this class, I perceived myself as a poor writer. When someone has never been taught the proper way to write a paper, you struggle through college SOC 300 (Dr. Stephen Adair) and hoped to get more out of SOC 478 (Dr. Fumilayo Showers) as you attend classes. I never thought about the process that it took to write any paper before these classes. However, these two professors have been very inspirational toward my writing. They have taught me that structuring your paper is the key element to good writing. Somehow, I have learned a great deal last semester, which was difficult but I will be able to put towards me up and coming writing intensive courses. The readings throughout those two classes have helped me to understand the dos and
I had a wonder semester in LSIS 4505. The three things that I learned during this course is how to make a lesson plan, what books are banned and challenged in different districts, and bibliotherapy books. It takes times to make a lesson plan. Sometimes your lesson plan does not always go as plan. When my teacher first assigned this, I was nervous because this was my first time making one.
When registering for this class, a wave of worry ran through me, because I had minimal skill when it came to writing, particularly in the field of formal writing. The high school I attended was academically poor, we never wrote formal papers, just informal book and movie responses. Therefore I was apprehensive about this class. This course was quite intricate, but I attend skills that will aid me for the rest of my academic career. Rhetorical knowledge, critical inquiry, process, and conventions are all concepts I have acquired.
Upon discovering the advertising industry through the American Advertising Federation Medgar Evers College Chapter, where I served as the Treasurer and Strategic Planner, I fortunately landed my first internship with the Omnicom Medgar Evers College Associates program where I was placed at DDB Worldwide as an account management on the State Farm account. Landing such an opportunity has reinforced my belief that advertising is an arena where I can challenge myself through critical thinking, creativity and innovation. Thus, I went on to applying to the 4A’s Multicultural Advertising Internship Program and was placed at Grey Group New York, providing account management support to the Hasbro Boys team. These two internships have given me an excellent opportunity to apply and enhance my prior academic and industry experience while learning from fellow interns as I establish a solid
I was most engaged in this course when I was doing the research for this paper. Filtering through all the research and figuring out what is valuable information was the most exciting part for me. Additionally, finding information and connecting it to a suspect is the most satisfying part of my job. Writing the actual research paper has been the second most engaging thing during this course. It is difficult for me because I know I am not a great writer, but there are improvements in my writing since starting college.
Nowadays, everyone knows that the English language is very important for many fields. Especially, in the medical, most of the medical knowledge often uses the English language. Thus, for the second year of the medical program in SWU, medical students need to learn the MDG 202 subject to practice speaking and presentation skills. In the course, it has been focused on developing two these skills, so my three friends and I practice together and develop presentation skills, which I will tell the reflection and feedback from selecting the topic after the presentation. First of all, I chose the closest topic to the lifestyle of medical students who had to read many books and more not enough to rest, so the source of the topic was "Snoring to Death".
The 214 English hybrid course has got me into thinking more about constructing a strong thesis and creating solid topic sentences. Being able to identify my thesis has also helped my writing have better organization that helps the overall flow of my essay. With blogging incorporated into our academic criteria it was certainly something different. Blogging geared me into reading more articles and analysis the authors use of rhetorical devices. After this course I have gone more on magazine websites to read current topics.
Throughout my education, writing strategies persisted to be a challenge for me. I dreaded writing because I could never find ways to transition my thoughts from my mind to the paper. Ironically, a class that petrified me due to the amount of required writing ended up helping me in numerous ways. English 1301 and my professor prepared me for college and real life by giving me a foundation of effective learning strategies.
The weekly reading assignments were very helpful. Some of the topics were great refreshers of common mistakes made when writing; these knocked some of the cobwebs in my mind loose. The other topics with sample writings gave me an idea of what to do. The instructor feedback and the revision recommendations were probably the most helpful tools in my composition process.
Dr. lmre incorporated many different activities that assisted me to progress in my writing style and process. Peer reviews were something that I felt was very helpful. I also believed that having the group conferences with Dr. Imre really helped me on building the necessary revisions for my papers. My overall experience in this class was unbelievably helpful and now I feel that I can write any paper without a problem.
English 1121 has helped me to become an enhanced reader and writer. I now have confidence in my writing and reading abilities. I never realized that I could become a good writer. A tremendous amount of effort was put forth into each of my papers and I asked questions whenever I was frazzled. I strived for success.
Throughout the semester, we are required to help one day with Math Club for ECE 321 between 3:00-4:30 after school hours to review and practice different math games and resource with students. I attend 4/5 times for Math Club this semester rotating to different stations. The first station involves using computers to play mathematical games. Some of the games include; abcya.com and mathplayground.com. These games work on multiplication, addition and subtraction, geometry, fractions, and decimal problems.
Writing has always been an issue but yet interesting subject of mine. As hard as I try and write essays, and papers I just can’t get the hang of writing. But after taking this class, I did learn different writing technique and improved my writing proficiency, material body of formatting, and how to uncovering and properly use sources. I am taking this class because I need an English credit, but I am not just taking it because of that. I want to further my writing skills and feel more confident when I write. Also I want to be prepared for the more
My Writing Experience In previous courses, my writing skills have been mediocre or just enough to pass the class. Throughout the duration of this course, I have written a variety of papers using different techniques and skills. Previously I would write assuming that the only audience would be my instructor. This course has helped me realize that there are many steps and skills involved with writing a well-organized and easy to comprehend essay.
The art of argument persuasion I’ve learned in this course is so beneficial for my marketing major. Other than that, it made me develop the essay writing skills necessary for success in my studies at the university level. This English course also taught me how powerful written words can be, and how the delivery of the tone is important for the reader. The tone of a narrative is different than the tone of a research, where the difference makes the paper. Also, the power in written words tells how much it is crucial to mankind.
