An important question that is emerging related to retirement is whether or not social security will be active in the future. As a result, it is a question that I am beginning to ask as well for many reasons; the foremost being because my generation is one that it will have a tremendous impact on. Social security benefits are often over looked; most people solely rely on social security after they retire as a replacement for income, even though social security was not created as a replacement for a job. Others claim social security benefits while still working full- or part-time; however, it is becoming evident that social security is needed for most Americans after they retire to continue living a comfortable lifestyle. If social security is not available in the future when I retire, what will be the outcome? …show more content…
The myth that social security will no longer exist in the future is due to the depletion of the saved funds that make up a portion of social security. However, because social security is a “pay-as-you-go system…it’s never been primarily run on saved money…taxes from today’s workers are used to fund the benefits of today’s retirees” (Regnier 2015). Because of this, social security can only run-out if workers stop paying taxes. The amount of social security benefits that each generation receives is highly reliant on the number of workers in the lower generations. In order to keep the amount of social security benefits stable is to increase, or decrease, the social security tax to compensate for the amount of people that receive the benefits. It is possible that in the future social security benefits will only rely on direct taxes from workers, and if this does happen, social security benefits are likely to decrease. The amount of money that employers are paying in now will be less than the amount that they receive in the
The Affordable Health Care Act, also known as “Obamacare”, is basically just Obama trying to make sure that the whole nation has insurance and if they do not have it by January 1, 2014, they will be penalized with a fine. To make insurance more affordable, many Americans are able to qualify for a subsidy that lowers the cost depending on age and income. Also, “Obamacare” made it impossible for insurers’ to discriminate, or charge higher rates, for anyone who has pre-existing conditions or for a certain gender. Medicare will also be easier to obtain due to requirement of insurance. This law was passed in the U.S. on March 23, 2010 by Congress and President Barack Obama.
The social security is a costing system and it occupies a big proportion in the government spending. In Barbara R. Bergmann’s article “Could Social Security Go Broke?,” she deems that there is enough fund in the social security system and the government can easily transfer the tax income from current employees and firms that employ these employees to the social security to support retirees’ lives. This point of view only can be considered as assumption, but not for the real world. After the finacial crisis in 2008, a large number of employees were laid off during that time and some employees decided to retire early, which results the labor force in American has shrunk. In the meantime, the presence of effective technology products,
The data, as reported by the Bureau of Census in 2012, is in agreement with the trend stated above. According to the study, roughly 9.1% of geriatrics live in poverty, whereas 21.8% of 18-64 year olds live in poverty (2012 census figure 5). In the past five decades, the rate of poverty in those 65+ has decreased a massive 26.1%. The favorable consequences of Medicare are undeniable and amidst the concern for the elderly, there was a growing awareness regarding civil rights issues of the

It marked a shift in the role of the national government, as it established a system of retirement benefits for seniors and more such as unemployment insurance, aid to dependent children, and disability insurance. These programs helped provide safety for Americans who were struggling during the Great Depression, and they continue to provide support to millions of Americans today. The program was designed to assist older Americans who were unable to work, and it has been instrumental in reducing poverty among seniors. According to History Editors, the “Social Security Act”, the president “created Social Security, a federal safety net for elderly, unemployed, and disadvantaged Americans. The main stipulation of the original Social Security Act was to pay financial benefits (Social Security Act).”
It also offers many other benefits for children, widowed and disabled Americans. Social Security is a federal agency that fights old-age poverty. The primary source of the Social Security poster gives lots of information. It explains that it can offer, “a monthly check to you for the rest of your life, beginning when you are 65”.
With every new president comes new appointees and with new appointees comes change. These new changes can radically affect how education will be affected. As of now, many DACA students worry for their future, Betsy DeVos plans to change public education and the future decision on transgender bathroom use can make an impact on education. DACA is a 2-year temporary resident status for immigrants, who as children were brought to the US illegally by their parents. Recently a big question has been brought to attention as to what will happen to students under DACA.
Christopher, Greed was differently the driving factor of the imbalance between the wealthy and the common people. Social Security definitely did help the economy. When those of age 65 and over would retire, it would lead to job positions opening up, which led to new people being hired. It wasn’t really new demand, as younger people would replace the older ones. When people would receive their pension check it wasn’t very much.
In Central America there are high levels of violence, particularly, in regard to gangs who are specifically targeting women. Resulting in families fleeing to the United States through the southern border. In an attempt to stop illegal immigration the current administration has been placing migrants, when caught, in detention centers. This is done as a message to others to not come over, and also as a holding place until they can be sent back to their home country. This becomes more controversial because of who is being held in these centers.
Obama Care also known as the Affordable Care Act signed in by president Barack Obama in 2010, This was to insure that all the Americans will have free access to medical care if they got sick and it would will help reduce the growth of healthcost spending in the country, hence in economic and stability growth among the citizens of America. Right now in the USA the ObamaCare law is a permanent part of the landscape, The USA republicans said that, despite the high court decision upholding various subsidies, the law itself remains the largest and dangerous threat to health care. Although it has its own benefits, Obamacare is increasing costs for hardworking families. Republicans argue that many people have to pay higher costs or see their former policies canceled. Which is leading to poor economy and increasing of debts and deaths within the country.
Final Thesis The Baby Boomer era has decreased since War War 1, leaving mostly the government and Canadians distress about how this event will impact societies economy and the debts our generation has to pay. Supporting argument #1 With the peak in births during the Baby Boomer era, this has resulted in financial instability within society. Supporting argument #2 Society as a whole is experience difficulties managing the effects of the aging Baby Boomers. Introduction During the 1947 to 1965, about 76.4 million children were born, this phenomenon was eventually labeled as the Baby Boom (Canadian Encyclopedia).
The act was created after the public burst out about the lack of insurance for older aged individuals. It was an incredibly historical act and was seen as incredible patriotic. In a historical flyer dated back to 1935 found in the Print and Photograph Division fo the Library of Congress, the words, "A monthly check to you - for the rest of your life...beginning when you are 65" are displayed prominently. On the flyer is a large abundance of information regarding Social Security including what it is, where to get it and who can get it. On the flyer is a man giving out "your monthly Social Security check" to the viewer.
The SSA, as well as many other programs under the New Deal, are still around today, helping to keep people of all occupations, on their
As a society we need to accept that it is up to our generation to fix this issue. Reforming Social Security will benefit everyone living in the U.S. in the long run. Restoring Social Security to its once former glory is a necessity to benefit our further generations and to create a better future for the next generation of workers. In order to accomplish this lofty goal I propose that we increase the payroll tax cap to boost Social Security’s funding and reduce benefits for the higher income earners who do not need Social Security as much as others do. The majority of Social Security’s income originates from the Social Security payroll tax.
Millions of Americans receive government aid such as welfare every year. Of those Americans who are on welfare, many are unemployed. Some people may need welfare because they don’t make enough money to support their families. However, the amount of money spent on welfare every year is tremendous. Welfare should be taken away from those who don’t work.
