In the essay the author distinguish between the two scenarios and gives evidence supporting both views. The first scenario starts off on January 2013, fourth graders from Jefferson Elementary School are returning from Christmas break. Barbara Wegner the teacher for the fourth graders noticed one of her students was absence. Day’s went by and he still did not return to school. Rodrigo’s family had come to the United States on a tourist visa, which had been expired. For Christmas Rodrigo’s family went on vacation. They could not leave because of their expired visa and was sent back to Mexico. When Rodrigo’s fellow classmates heard of the situation they were devastated. The second scenario occurred in Murrieta, California. Where protestors blocked a bus of undocumented immigrants. The protestors were holding up signs saying, “ Send the illegals back”. As a result of this essay the author allows the reader to get a better understanding of the affects of immigration.

The overall claim of this essay is to distinguish the different mindsets of people who are pro immigration and anti immigration. The support the author overs for the claim is demonstrating the two different scenarios between the forth graders and protestors of Murrieta, California. Smith appealed to the readers by triggering their emotions. In the first scenario Smith appealed to the readers emotion by using children to identify a bigger meaning. In Leo R. Chavez’s ethnography, The Latino Threat: Constructing Immigrants, Citizens, and the Nation, the claimed problem of Latino immigration, specifically Mexicans, is tackled using interviews, statistics, and other works of literature. Chavez’s ethnography not only discusses Latino immigration but Latino invasion, integration, organ transplants and even Latina fertilization. One of Chavez’s big topics is on how the media influences the public to believe that Latinos are planning an invasion or take-over in order to gain the land that was originally Mexico’s. The topic of Latina reproduction and fertilization comes up multiple times through Chavez’s ethnography. Another main topic that plays a part in Chavez’s argument is the Latino role in public marches and the citizenship aspect of their actions.
On Monday, Oct. 10, the Memorial Murrell Library had a guest speaker. That guest speaker was Marie Marquardt, a young adult literature author. Marquardt does not only write young adult novels, but she is also an immigration advocate. “All the heated political red wing we hear about the 11 million undocumented immigrants trying to live in the United States, all the numbers, they don’t connect us to the everyday reality,” said Marquardt. “I started to think a great deal about the relationship between these really tough political issues that we’re living in the middle of.
Humans rarely change their ways; they stay in their own worlds and always interact with the same types of people. Unfortunately, this habit often creates unseen barriers that divide and alienate human beings from one another. In Luis Alberto Urrea’s book The Devil’s Highway, Urrea provides a personal perspective to immigration by telling the story of 26 illegal immigrants, known as the Wellton 26, who are abandoned as they cross the Mexico-U.S. border. Through their story, Urrea proves there are invisible borders among people that create prejudice, such as language, ethnicity, and economic status. By reading The Devil’s Highway, it is clear that these barriers must be broken down to ensure harmony within society.
The formatting which words are used to persuade a group of people is interesting to research. As Levinson describes in his book, political terms in America are over defined or under defined as general semantics views them. In this paper, an analysis of the lexicon of the article will attempt to explain the different connotations obtained by analyzing and understanding the reading. It should be important to note that in order to be ethical, one must ask themselves what implications his or her word usage is presenting to the audience; assuming that one wants to be ethical of course. The author also discusses the country's immigration system and how their Korean background affected her parents' process of obtaining citizenship. And how, despite a part of the city's population being racist and xenophobic, a group of people from the community where they lived joined forces to save a doctor from being deported. Immigration is deeply rooted in the American culture, yet it is still an issue that has the country divided. Marcelo and Carola Suarez-Orozco, in their essay, “How Immigrants Became ‘Other’” explore the topic of immigration. They argue that Americans view many immigrants as criminals entering America with the hopes of stealing jobs and taking over, but that this viewpoint is not true. They claim that immigrants give up a lot to even have a chance to come into America and will take whatever they can get when they come. The Suarez-Orozco’s support their argument using authority figures to gain credibility as well as exemplification through immigrant stories.

Argumentative Writing Undocumented immigrants are getting deported and they can’t have an experience they wanted to have when they came to america. But, because of the us government they can’t have this experience some get this experience but they still have to be very careful. They all also fear because some of them have kids then they fear for themselves and then there kids because it’s their family. Do you want to live in a community where you see mexican and people on the streets because of crossing the border. This is why i think that the government shouldn’t deport undocumented immigrants because then they don't get a chance to have an american experience.
For a nine-year-old who wants nothing more than to make her mother proud this was exciting. In the beginning, we can see her excitement and desire, “in the beginning I was just as excited as my mother, maybe even more so.” (Tan). However, as we follow the story we see her excitement quickly fade to sorrow and anger. The high expectations immigrant families place on their children is still a very relevant social issue and can be witnessed throughout the United States.

Imagine being in Japan for a week on vacation with a group of friends, and one day decided to go to the oldest zoo in Japan, Ueno Zoo. To get to Ueno Zoo, riding the bullet train was a necessity, except knowing which line was the correct line, when to get off the bullet train, or even which ticket to buy was a daunting task. Nobody in your group has the confidence to ask the workers for help since they don’t have the knowledge of Japanese to help them.
Response to “Our Fear of Immigrants” In “Our Fear of Immigrants” Jeremy Adam Smith takes a neutral stance on the immigration and anti-immigration argument. Smith begins by telling the story of a 4th grade class at Jefferson Elementary School in Berkeley, California who try to fight back against immigration laws after a classmate of theirs was deported back to his home country. Smith then goes on to compare the 4th graders to the adults of their town who fight for stronger immigration laws asking his readers what qualities the children possess that the rest of the citizens do not to make them react so differently.
The Back of a Nonexistent Line In the film Documented and The New York Times article “My Life as an Undocumented Immigrant,” Jose Antonio Vargas describes his experience as an undocumented immigrant in the United States and provides a passionate argument for creating a pathway to citizenship for others like Vargas, who are undocumented as well. Although both the film and article give the viewers and readers an insight into Vargas’ difficult journey, a particular scene in the film sends an unspoken message about the United States as a whole. Boyle, Delaney and other characters of the book introduce the racism of most communities by bringing up the topics of coyotes, borders, physically and mentally, and illegal Mexican immigrants. Each topic ties one another together. To most, there shows a problem with the immigrants coming to America, just because they didn’t come legally. T.C. Boyle showed the reaction of people to new people coming to America to try and live the American dream that we are all supposed to be allowed to do.
