The Mexican Revolution
In 1910 working citizens and indigenous people of Mexico decided they had enough of the government. They were Tired of the way the government treated the citizens. They took their land and forced them to work for barely anything, so they started a revolution. After the revolt there were many books written to describe what the time period was like for the people. One book written was The Underdogs by Mariano Azuela. The question is: is this book accurate? Or way off from the truth. In addition, was this rebellion changing anything, or were the people fighting with no direction. The revolutionaries were always fighting with one goal in mind which was to bring justice to the people. After years of fighting they did just

Diaz was a positivist, and because of this Mexico was run under the belief that order and progress were everything. Diaz also believed that everything should be documented including land ownership. However, the problem with this concept was that many poor families, especially the indigenous people did not have any documentation for their land. This consequently led to them losing their homes. Families that have been living on land for decades were ripped away from all that they had known. Unfortunately, without any documentation they couldn’t even fight what was being done to them. If they refused to leave the government often times would just burn down their houses. This is briefly expressed in Azuela’s book when one the men fighting expresses how the government had “burned” his house giving him the desire for justice, so he joined the …show more content…
One of the main things the constitution does is guarantee a minimum wage. In addition, it also states that this wage must be paid in money and not any substitute for money. These new laws solved the problem of workers getting into debt because they were not paid adequate wages and were only paid in coupons. Also, the constitution “extinguished” all debts due to employers in full that were accumulated before the constitution was written. However, if one should find themselves in debt again the constitution laid out a plan on how to get this paid. The document declared that citizens would not get into more debt than they could afford, and they could not be demanded to pay their debts if the amount exceeded one month’s wages. Also, if they could not pay off their debts, their families would not be responsible for paying. This is a huge change from the previous policies that were in place before the
Historians often divide the Mexican Revolution into three main periods of fighting due to its length and complexity. Of the three periods, the one that had the most impact on Mexican society at the time was the first phase in which Francisco Madero overthrew Porfirio Diaz as new revolutionary leaders such as Emiliano Zapata and Pancho Villa arose. This period allowed people that were not usually involved in politics to become more involved. The phase of the revolution that had the most potential to create change in Mexican society later was the third one that saw Conventionalists take on Constitutionalists for control of the country. This stage created the Constitution and led to a single political party gaining control of México.
The era of president Salinas de Gortari and the transition to free market have gone against the ideologies and goals of the Mexican Revolution. By reading “Mexican Lives” by Judith Hellman we see how Neoliberal policies affected Mexicans from a wide range of socio-economic backgrounds. President Salinas goals went against the values of the Mexican revolution by liberalizing the economy of Mexico and selling state owned land to private capital which went against provision Article 27 in the constitution which places strict ownership of land in the hands of the Mexicans. We see in Hellman’s stories how wealthy business owners like Sergio Espinoza and Ruben Ergas in Mexico were negatively affected by the liberalization of the economy. Prior to
Without the Constitution, who knows what our country would’ve been. I know that nobody would even step foot into this country if things like tyranny were around spreading chaos all over. With different ways, including dividing powers between branches of government, Checks and Balances, and having Equal Representation from each state for the Legislative Branch, the Constitution can fulfill it’s purpose by maintaining our great country. More ways show a great deal of significance from Constitution, but these ways are very special because they show us a reminder of what was done for us to have no tyranny in our beloved country. The Constitution guarded against tyranny so that we can appreciate what our great founding fathers did so that we could
Ever heard of the Articles of Confederation? Thought not. That’s because within only 8 years of their ratification, they were gotten rid of. This was because, among other things, there were no courts, no national currency, and no taxes. So in May of 1787, 55 men gathered together in Philadelphia to come up with a better plan.
In his work “The Underdogs”, Mariano Azuela is able to master the spirit of villismo regarding both its theoretic, underlying principles as well as the movement’s subsequent physical manifestations. Though significant characters conduct themselves in a manner consistent with the humble agrarian spirit central to villismo’s origin, characters in this text also exhibit the disruptive, callous behavior that is more characteristic of the federalist forces and dictatorships they aimed to unseat. Moreover, Demetrio’s degenerating understanding of the reason he’s fighting, coupled with his few instances of immorality, symbolizes the collapse of villismo morality into its culminating bandit-ridden reality. Cowboys, farmers, and other agrarian people suffering from land and labor oppression united together as the diverse “pieces of a great social movement [to] exalt their motherland” . Demetrio and Solis embody this original character of villismo revolution, as they maintain a moral, humanitarian compass throughout the novel.
The constitution has saved our country from being like England/Britain and has saved us falling apart. The constitution has kept us from ending up like other country that are formed off the strong being in charge and surviving and the weak dying or ending up like a monarchy or a dictatorship like other country are and the constitution everyone in our country has survived and no more

The musical phenomenon corridos came about in the 1800s. However a dramatic increase of this music occurred until the Mexican Revolution. The Mexican Revolution started on November 20, 1920. The revolution started because of a very corrupt government that was ran by Porfirio Diaz. His 34-year term called El Porfiriato, was violating the principle and ideals of the Mexican Constitution (EDSITEment).
Throughout the Porfirian era Mexico had struggled to develop as a country and move towards any steps of progress up until the year of 1910. In William H. Beezley’s book Judas at the Jockey Club he considers this period on Mexican history to begin around 1876 and he points out many of the social, economic, and political factors that helped shape the foundation for modern Mexico. Beezley also looks at some of the regular aspects of the daily lives of Mexicans. Whether it be the sports and recreations, ceremonies and celebrations, or jobs and work that are part of the Mexicans everyday live, he uses these aspects to illustrate the extent of the two main culture groups of Mexican society. The two main culture groups in Mexico were the Los de Arriba,
As what 's defined as a revolution from the dictionary, “is a forcible overthrow of a government or social order in favor of a new system”. This occurred multiple times around the world, some included in the countries France; The French Revolution, Mexico; The Mexican revolution, China; The Chinese Revolution, Russia; The Russian Revolution, and many others around the globe. As both French and Mexican revolutions fought for independence and to convert to a modern world government, they both were concerned with inequality with the lower classmen. The French Revolution fought to end monarchy establishment, while the Mexican Revolution fought to end dictatorship and to establish a constitutional republic.
In Mariano Azuela’s novel of the Mexican Revolution, The Underdogs, Azuela writes about character that were influenced by the Mexican Revolution. The main character and protagonist is a man by the name of Demetrio Macias. Macias, his wife, and their young son stayed on a farm until the Federale soldiers came. Macias was forced to abandon his family and meets with a group of rebels along the way of his travel to fight President Huerta. Macias and his men are following the legendary Francisco “Pancho” Villa, who is the most important revolutionary leader from northern Mexico (Azuela XI).
In Latin American Revolution before the revolution there were four main social classes; on the bottom there were the slaves and the Indians, then there were the Mulattoes (who were of African and Spanish descent) and the Mestizos (who were of Spanish and Native American descent), then the Creoles (who were of pure Spanish blood, but were born in America), and at the very top there were the Peninsulares (they were of pure Spanish descent and were born in Spain). The Creoles lead the fight against Spain because they wanted higher social status within their own lives, more political control over their own lives, and they were tired of Spain having total control over their economy. The Creoles weren 't allowed to do many things simply because they were born in America and not Spain, it didn’t matter that they were of pure European descent. Creoles were not allowed to hold political positions, only the Peninsulares were able to. For example, in 1807 only 12 of the 199 judgeships were held by Creoles, the rest were held by Peninsulares.
Benito Juarez was the 26th President of Mexico. Señor Juarez did a lot for the well being of Mexico, such as stopping the French in Mexico, stopping the Second Mexican Empire, modernizing the country, and other great deeds. Benito Juarez also was a lawyer and a governor before becoming president. President Juarez helped Mexico stop the interference of the French in Mexico.
Normally, in a revolution, a government is overthrown and replaced by another type of government. An example of a revolution is the American Revolution, in which the British monarchy got rejected by the colonists in the Thirteen Colonies. From the rejection, it resulted in a war in which the Thirteen Colonies uprised against the British. Both argued over a disagreement about the way the colonies wanted to be treated versus the way Great Britain treated the colonies. Ultimately, the idea of equality among the people and government became a major concern.
The new government, the Constitution, is now able to enforces taxes, which allowed money to come in and the government was able to pay off their debt. One other weakness of the articles was that it gave all power to only one house of representative from each state, the constitution try to solve this matter that creating three separate branches of power, the Legislative branch, Executive branch, and the Judiciary branch, allowing the power to be more divided. Representation was another problem in under the Articles of Confederation because a big state like Massachusetts and a small state like New Jersey both have the same amount of representatives, the Constitution made a compromise by forming two house in Congress the Senate, where each state get equal representation, and the House of Representatives, where each state is represented by the population of the state. The Constitution also fixed the problem of passing a law; under the Articles of Confederation, laws can only be passed if 9 out of 13 representatives agrees on the law because of this not much laws were passed, now under the Constitution only 51 percent of the votes to pass the law. From this readers can infer that the Constitution fixed many of the defects in the Articles
