America is a “land of living hope, woven of dreams, aflame with longing and desire” people who come to America come here to get a better life or career. Most people who come to America for a few years think they are Americans because they wave a flag, but they don't know the true meaning of what it means to be and American. An American is someone who will die for it’s country, someone who emigrated here for more opportunities, and someone who is encouraged by the history of America. In “Veterans Day: Never Forget Their Duty”, by John Sidney McCain he Defines his own personal interpretation of what an American is. To McCain an American is someone who would die for this country in paragraph 9-14 McCain states that his best friend Mike Christian was beaten for making a flag, however even though the Vietnamese soldiers beat Mike he was making another one and it wasn't because he was making the flag for himself “ he was making that flag because he knew how important it was for us to be able to pledge our allegiance to our flag and country. Reed, he defines his own personal interpretation of what is and what is not a true patriot. To Reed an American is someone who is encouraged by the ideals in the Declaration of Independence such as “All men are created equal.” I agree with Reed because my interpretation of an American is someone who follows the rights that our forefathers left us. For example people who know their rights are true Americans because they know that the Government cannot take their rights away from them an example is when someone goes to court they don't have to tell the judge anything if they don't feel like it because the judge cannot make them speak or take their rights.
