CASA works closely with Henrico County juvenile judges who refer cases, clerks of the court who assist with files and guardians ad litem representing the legal interests of children. Judges support the best interests of the child by assisting with training new advocates, assigning CASAs, and using the investigative reports to make more knowledgeable decisions for the child and family. Henrico CASA has received many accolades from the judges, including current chief judge, the Honorable Rondelle Herman, who says "CASA fills in a lot of blanks so the judges can see things more clearly." CASAs work with Social Services (DSS) caseworkers to ensure information is exchanged to create the best safety plan and service provision for child victims.

As a CASA volunteer, my mom works with neglected, abused, or foster care children alongside their legal aid and the court system. CASA volunteers make sure children do not get lost in the foster care or court system and advocates what is best for the child after spending a lot of time with the child and the other adults present in their life. CASA volunteers are often the one stable adult a child can have in their life. My mom would spend hours a week working to help each kid, whether it just be as simple as taking them to lunch or going to court to speak on the child’s behalf. All of the children were in foster or group homes looking for a stable home.
Within this article, there are guidelines for caseworkers that work with child protective services (CPS). There are seven stages in the CPS process. The stages consist of intake, initial assessment or investigation, comprehensive family assessment, planning, service provision, evaluation of family progress, and case closure. There are several core values that CPS workers follow. One of the stages that I focused on while reading is that CPS workers work hard to guarantee the safety of children within their family and home.

The review of instruments of different instruments for assessing risk and safety in child welfare focuses on instrument reliability, validity, outcomes, and use with children and families of color. The evaluation of risk assessment instruments generally includes broad categories of areas related to abuse and neglect, behavioral descriptions, procedures to determine levels of risk, and standardized forms to record this information (Rycus & Hughes, 2003). In the process of screening for a case study, instruments are used to determine if the child or family needs further assessment, treatment, or intervention services. In evaluating the Van Sise family I have found that the following
As I progress in my career, I feel that it is important to develop a personal style and technique that clients can relate to. I am also interested in learning more about assessments and evaluations as they drive the rehabilitation plan. While I have assessed hundreds of clients, I realize that there is more to learn. For instance, the trend over the next five years will be an increase in applicants who receive state-plan home and community based services. The Final Rule issued by The Center for Medicare and Medicaid will require that individuals receive services in the most integrated settings.
