Historically, it is believed that the causes of large scale events and wars are often rooted in the outcomes of previous conflicts. The American Revolution, one of the largest most historically significant events of all time, was caused by a multitude of events. Specifically, many of the causes were in fact the results of past conflicts and ongoing tension, such as the French and Indian War and British taxation acts. Contrary to popular belief, the impact of American Revolution was not solely confined to the colonies and the British crown. The French and Indian War occurred mainly on American soil in the 18th century. In the war, British American and New France fought, with heavy involvement from Native American allies, over regions in the New World, such as the Ohio River Valley. Britain ultimately won the war after capturing the city of Quebec. As a result of the war, the Treaty of Paris was signed, leading to France losing all most its North American possessions east of the Mississippi. France was also required to hand over French Louisiana to Spain. Since France lost almost all of its territorial claims in the western hemisphere, Great Britain’s position as the dominant power in North America was confirmed. After the Treaty of Paris was signed, King George III officiated the Proclamation of 1763, which blocked the colonists from expanded westward. The proclamation gave the British total power over American land. Britain gained the territory of New France and French Canada. The French and Indian War placed Britain into a large debt, which Britain dealt with by heavily taxing the colonists. As stated by Jessie Palmer, “The French and Indian War was very essential to the American Revolution because the war debt was the reason that Parliament started imposing taxes on the colonists in the first place” (Palmer). Issues between Great Britain and France as well as conflicts between Great Britain and the colonists played key roles in starting the American Revolution. Events such as the French and Indian War, the Sugar Act, and the Stamp Act were the sparks needed to ignite the flame of the American Revolution. Even though the American Revolution started as a series of smaller acts confined to the American colonies, it ended up as a large global conflict. When you think of the Revolutionary War you think of the brave men fighting in the war, and how it was just the beginning for America; but we never think about how we actually got to a point for a revolution or how this revolution even came about. There are many components that lead up to the war, including the French and Indian War in 1763. The French and Indian War might not have started the Revolutionary War, but it helped pave the path in that direction, giving the colonists the confidence and independence it needed, drowning England in debt, and growing the resentment between the British and the Colonists. One factor the French and Indian war did for the colonists was providing them confidence and independence as a country. Fighting alongside the British gave the colonists military experience and helped them realize that they did not need the big bad British to protect them, especially if they weren’t fight very well in battle.

The American and French Revolution are both remembered in history as two major changes that would shape what we know today. Every child learns of the American Revolution at least once in their lives. Both these revolutions had the similar cause, effects, and stages that resulted or started them. Just like in every warring country, it is inevitable that there will be some change that occurs whether it be for the better or for worse. Although the American and French revolutions were very similar in the actions, there were many differences leading them into ultimately different paths and states of rest.
Writing Assignment #2 Question 1: The French and Indian war was a huge influence in the American Revolution. The War caused the huge debt for the British and to help cover that debt the British began taxes on the colonist. The French and Indian War was just the top of the iceberg. It was also a commutation of the Sugar Act which imposed a tax on imported goods on textiles, coffee, wine, sugar and molasses. Then the Currency Act was enacted the prohibited the colonist to print their own money.

The American Revolution War was also known as the U.S. War of Independence. During these years Americans went through a series of battles and new laws and rules were set. During the American Revolution there were a lot of long term and short term causes, including economic factors, english political legacy, and foreign policy.

Britain incurred a large debt from the cost of the war and the taxes that they imposed on the colonists created feelings of anger and rebellion that led to the revolution. As a result of the French and Indian war, the British were not at full strength which allowed the actions of the colonists to be more effective. Because of the outcome of the war, France was willing to help the colonists. Without the much needed help from the French the colonist may have never won the war.

Political, economic, military, and social factors were taken into account during the revolution. These aspects of the war all played a significant role in the outcome of the American Revolution. Since Great Britain was in a tremendous amount of debt, it started social and economic issues with the colonies. The French and Indian War (Seven Years War), fought between the British and the French over the Ohio River Valley was a huge contributing factor to said debt.
