Witches practice witchcraft which grants access to let witches have communication with the devil. Furthermore, “the culmination of the mythology of witchcraft came about from the 15th to the 18th centuries in the depiction of the witches Sabbath” (Carroll). Witchcraft is talked about and defined in the book, The Element Encyclopedia of Ghosts & Hauntings, saying, “Witchcraft is an ancient art that utilizes the powers of nature and the mind to bring out desired effect” (Cheung 539). In addition to that, witchcraft works by using certain combinations of natural elements to draw certain energies. They can be named after traditions or symbols. Witching hour inclined as one of the most well known cases of witches getting named after. Witching hour is “superstition the hour of midnight on the night of a full moon, when ghosts, witches, fairies, and other supernaturals visit the earth and will be seen. Hauntings occur between midnight and 4 A.M. as to popular belief, this is when psychic energies are strongest or veil between the world of living and the dead is at its thinnest” (Cheung 540). Secondly, witch doctors are another case of witches not used knowingly in the United States. These types of witch practitioners known for magical medical healing, use spells and potions to cure the sick and contact spirit guides for wisdom. People can find witch doctors in tribal communities of Africa, South America, the Native North American Indians, and in parts of Australia and Polynesia (Cheung 540). Their methods grown known as witchcraft and the reason why they are called witch doctors. It’s backed up by the science of magic which helped by the advance of science of urban centres from the declined belief in witchcraft in the 18th century. Meaning witches used science and medicine to heal people (Cheung 539). Lastly, a witch has appeared in cases of the Bible.
