On the election of 1860, Abraham Lincoln is elected as President of the United States, and his appointment to office conveys a downfall to the nation. Slavery conflicts rile the South further, and secession becomes inevitable. Moreover, the Civil War was one of the bloodiest wars that divided a nation, and devastated many; yet, who started the war? The South’s rebellion against the North commenced the lengthy war. The South threatened secession if Lincoln was elected, and the first to secede was South Carolina, a month after the election on December of 1860.
