Ambition is one of the best qualities a person can have, without it many people would not have been able to achieve the dream they were striving for. People see ambition as one of the greatest driving forces out there and others think “Ambition is among the strongest and most creative forces in the arsenal of human psychology and frequently the reason things get done.” The author stated how ambition is what constantly helps us get things done. without it we would all find it hard to get things done, if it’s doing something simple like working out in the morning, to doing something large like starting a company. We all need the ambition to be able to get anything in life done. This is example, shows how ambition helps people in everyday life …show more content…
Which would be to have too much of it. Having to much ambition can cause a person to become blind, “it also is one of the most dangerous [characteristics]--that drive to grab the biggest slice of the pie before anyone else and sometimes even the entire pie. “ This metaphor is saying that people with too much ambition do things without thinking, they act on impulses without analyzing the situation that might result from that decision. With ambition, everyone will be very impulsive and not be able to control their actions. Another, example of how having too much ambition can be through julius Caesar “Throughout his career, Caesar gave the impression that he always knew where he was going and what he was going to do when he got there. That impression eventually proved to be his undoing as it mutated into an imperious arrogance that cost him his life.” While Julius Caesar was able to gain the power he had because of his ambition it was also the thing that cause his downfall and assassination. He made decisions that did not help anyone, it was the ambition making the decisions rather than himself. The fact is that Julius Caesar's ambition pushed him to strive to continue the greatness he had supplied the Roman people with so long, that he became arrogant and selfish, which negatively affected his life. In conclusion, having too much ambition in one’s life, or being too overambitious, will eventually lead to one’s downfall and failure in life, like clearly seen with Julius Caesar and many more “has-been”
Ambition is complicated. On one hand, it is the fuel that prompts people
One of the most significant parts of this is the idea that being an ambitious person allows you to grow your confidence. In the book Into the Wild, written by Jon Krakauer, Krakauer unpacks his relationship with his father. He comments on how his father instilled ambition in him from a young age and that ambition gifted him the ability to climb Devil's Thumb Mountain. He reveals how he almost didn’t make it to the top of the mountain, but he did because he set an ambitious goal for himself because he knew he could accomplish it, and this thinking allowed him to be more confident in himself (146-151). This goes to show how positive being ambitious can be in someone's life; you could literally climb a mountain!
One way ambition is presented in a negative way is by Lady Macbeth. Lady Macbeth is one of the most ambitious character who wants to achieve power and can do anything to achieve it. Just after she received the letter from Macbeth she is obsessed with power. Lady Macbeth is really ambitious to become the queen as she convinces Macbeth to kill the King she does this by questioning Macbeth on his
Some of the risks of ambition is that it could be a mistake for working yourself too hard or your achievement could just be your worst mistake. For example, in the book of Frankenstein victor was working to hard on his creation he was working day and night. When finally he finished and his work was done victor regretted in working on it because it didn't turn out the way he thought it would be. Also the risks of ambition is that one worlds too hard and sometimes it won't turn out the way the think it would turn out to be therefore it could be a waste of time as well.
When ambition is overlooked, it has the ability to become extremely dangerous. Macbeth from Shakespeare is a clear example of this. As he rises to power, he becomes more and more of a threat to those around him, killing those he was once loyal to. Destruction when ambition goes unchecked is present throughout the play because of Macbeth’s strong desires that ultimately lead to the deaths of Duncan, Banquo, and nearly Macduff. The death of Duncan was the first corrupt act stemming from Macbeth’s ambition.
The late Greek philosopher Heraclitus once stated “Big results require big ambitions” and that could not be any more accurate. In Bob Hicok’s poem, Prodigal, there are many lines that directly relate to being an ambitious individual. I feel that it is ambition that drives an individual to get where they are dreaming of going. Lines 1-2 state “You could drive out of this country/and attack the world with your ambition,” this is a great way for Hicok to begin the poem as it really hooks the reader as most people can relate to these lines. Personally, I will be driving from my home outside of Hussar, Alberta to begin to chase my ambition to become an agronomist.
The ambition for satisfaction can consume a person’s entire existence to themselves and others. Although having ambition is considered a good thing, it can be taken too far and hurt others around us. Ambition can get in the way of how people perceive others feelings and might not see how it affects others like how in The Great Gatsby, Gatsby's ambition for Daisy was so strong that he didn’t stop to think about how the situation was affecting her. Gatsby went and told Tom that Daisy never loved him, and that hurt Daisy because she did love Tom at one point.
How the Ambitions of Macbeth and Commodus Leads to their Inevitable Downfalls Ambition, “a strong desire to do or to achieve something, typically requiring determination and hard work” (Google). The characters of Macbeth and Commodus within William Shakespeare’s play Macbeth and Ridley Scott’s movie Gladiator, both display ambition in its worst form. Macbeth and Commodus shared a very similar route to power after being swallowed by ambition; both characters gained their seat on the throne through deception, family, and murder. Firstly, One tool used by both characters was their different ways of deceiving their peers to get what they want. Macbeth’s first act of deception was much like Commodus’; they both killed the King of their respective countries to try and take the crown for themselves.
Macbeth by William Shakespeare and The Crucible by Arthur Miller share a common theme in that when humans attempt to pursue their ambitions they become easily corruptible. What is ambition? Google defines ambition as a strong desire to do or achieve something, typically requiring determination and hard work. The idea that human ambition is easily corruptible is true both in 11th century Scotland, in 16th century Salem and in the 21st century that we live in today. Ambition drives us to do things outside of the social norm.
Ambition is a natural part of human existence, every person has it at least a little. It is when ambition grows too large and takes control of us that it becomes dangerous. It becomes obsessive and soon nothing will stop the person obsessed. Just by looking around at our world today, one can clearly see the results of unchecked ambition. Unchecked ambition can be destructive to a society and cause the society's downfall.
Ambition is defined as the strong desire to achieve a specific goal and is often driven by determination. It can guide people to achieve goals and aspirations, and some are willingly to do anything in order to satisfy their ambitious personalities. The French military and political Napoleon Bonaparte successfully defined what ambition truly is by stating, “Great ambition is the passion of a great character. Those endowed with it may perform very good or very bad acts. All depends on the principles which direct them.”
What is ambition? Ambition is the determination to achieve one’s goals. In the play Macbeth by William Shakespeare the protagonist, Macbeth, possesses ambition, which led to his downfall. In the play Macbeth’s ambition is driven by prophecies from witches and his wife’s aspiration. Ambition caused Macbeth to commit multiple homicides and after those wrongdoings Macbeth is left with nothing.
In today’s society many people possess strong ambition when it comes to getting a job, following a passion and being immensely successful in life. Having an abundance of aspirations can have both successful and faulty outcomes depending on the situation and how individuals respond to the circumstance. For example, in the play **Macbeth written by Shakespeare, a prime example of an excessive amount of ambition is displayed through both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth’s actions. Essentially, Macbeth becomes power hungry and goes on a rampant killing spree that causes Lady Macbeth and Macbeth to be overcome with guilt. They both contain an excessive amount of desires due to their ultimate goal being for Macbeth to be crowned king.
Ambition is when you have the determination or desire to want to achive something no matter how hard you have to work to get it. For example, in Macbeth both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth strive to be powerful, and they are willing do to anything they can to achieve that goal even if that means being dishonorable. This is relevant today, because ambition is a big key to living in the 21st century. If you do not have ambition, you will not be successful. You have to want to get through college, work, school, or even the “social event the could be big for your career,” therefore if you have ambition it will be a breeze getting through all these things.
The road to a fatal outcome can be observed through many different qualities but excessive ambition is one of the main downfalls for most of us in society. Evil motivation due to uncontrollable and unnecessarily high ambition produces difficult obstacles in our lives. We could also become blind to making the right and moral decisions when our ambition is unrestrained. Additionally, all of the paths and routes for immoderate ambition leads to destruction and disorder. Another important note to keep in mind is that chaos and complications will be rooted from not only extravagant ambition but also poor decision making.
