Columbine, by Dave Cullen is a non-fiction book documenting the horrific massacre which took place in Littleton, Colorado on April 20, 1999. Not only does the writer give great detail about the shooting itself, he also gives and in depth look into the lives of the killers, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, and their victims. The focus of this book is for the author to attempt to bring to light what really happened and hopefully gain better understanding as to why it all took place. Entries from the perpetrators personal journals, stories from the ones who witnessed the shootings first hand, countless interviews from the victim’s families, as well as multiple other pieces of information give the reader an extremely up close and personal surrounding Columbine. He states that early on after the shootings took place, he found himself amongst the other reporters giving wrong information and knew he wanted to collect more …show more content…
The author uses quite a bit of imagery to give the reader a truer feel of what it must have felt like to be there. For example, the picture he paints of Eric is so detailed that the reader easily feels as if they know him. In chapter two, ”Rebels”, he describes Eric’s character by saying “He smoked, he drank, he dated. He got invited to parties. He got high. He worked his look hard: military chic hair – short and spiked with plenty of product – plus black T-shirts and baggy cargo pants”(Cullen.
Cesar Aguilera Forensics Columbine The book I choose was Columbine by Dave Cullen, the story of two high school students, 18 year old Eric Harris and 17 year old Dylan Klebold, who terrorize the lives of hundreds of students at Columbine High School. The shooting took place on April 20, 1999 at Columbine High School. They’re plan was to plant two propane bombs in the middle of their schools cafeteria and another miles away to distract the police at a certain time.
There are three main ideas that every American takes pride in, which is their country, freedom, and military. Americans holds their heads high when it comes to its military. From the Army, to the Marines, to the Navy Seals, and all the other branches of military, Americans are both proud and fully supportive of its troops. Sadly, that pride was shaken on April 22, 2004 when famous NFL player and former Army Ranger, Pat Tillman was killed in Afghanistan over friendly fire. After Tillman’s death, the Army tried several time to cover up Pat’s actual cause of death to try and use him for propaganda recruitment purposes.

The extreme example of this is hurting others through the use of weapons and force.
The school shooting at Columbine high school was one of the bloodiest and atrocious school shootings in United States history. Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris devised a plan to inflict as much terror as possible in their school as well as the rest of the world. Even though their original plan of detonating propane bombs in the school cafeteria failed, these two improvised and still proceeded with the massacre. Columbine was never about killing mankind; Columbine was a quest to ensure both killers would reach widespread notoriety.
d.) I do not think this book glorifies Eric and Dylan. It may seem that it is by detailing all the work they put into it, but the author does that to portray how dedicated they were to doing something so awful. The author does a great job of portraying the awfulness and brutality of the shootings. All the chapters following the shootings really show how it drastically affected the students of Columbine and so many others.
School-related shootings, particularly those that are dramatic in nature, evoke strong public outcry, and justifiably so. Following an apparent spate of incidents occurring between 1997 and 2001, it seemed as if the USA was on the brink of a moral panic concerning delinquency to young youth. Since then, "Columbine has become a keyword for a complex set of emotions surrounding youth, risk, fear, and delinquency in 21st century America" (Muschert 2007). One alarmist (Stein 2000) went so far as to label Columbine as a metaphor for a contemporary crisis of youth culture.
The teens had been seen drinking illegally before the tragic event. So, the cause of their death could have been because they were drunk. All of the victims were graduates of the East Lyme High School in 1987. The families of this tragic event were stunned to find out that one of their loved ones was dead. Their families had last seen them when they were leaving for New
A teacher’s son, clad in black and carrying two 9mm pistols rampaged through a Connecticut elementary school, killing 20 small children and six adults, a tragedy President Obama said had “broken the hearts of America” (Williams).” Many people believe that the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre was planned because of the odd demeanor of the parents or victim, Emilie Parker, the medical personnel who were turned away from the scene, why care flight helicopters were never requested, and questions concerning the validity of the medical examiner. This tragic event was not at all planned because all of these questions can be reasonably answered. One of the reasons people question the tragedy of the Sandy Hook massacre is because of the strange
“As of this writing, a Google search for the SPU shooter’s name brings up 409,000 hits—52,000 more than for Jon Meis, the 22-year-old student who selflessly subdued the shooter before he could claim more victims” (Herz). More people chose to follow up on the shooter rather than
On April 20, 1999, the unimaginable occurred at Columbine High School in the small town of Littleton, Colorado. A school shooting, carried out by, then senior students, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold took the entire community by storm. With 15 deaths, including the perpetrators, and 24 non-fatal injuries, the memories of this horrific massacre will forever resonate in the minds of all. With a meticulously thought out plan, the two shooters prepared guns and bombs in order to perform the sickening act. Families, the FBI, local officials, psychologists, and more spent a multitude of time trying to figure out the reasoning as to what motivated the two boys to kill and cause so much pain to others.
Dave Cullen lived in Chicago (Dave Cullen) when he published the book, Columbine in April of 2009. “This is the story of two boys living in Baltimore with similar histories and an identical name: Wes Moore. One of us is free and has experienced things that he never even knew to dream about as a kid. The other will spend everyday until his death behind bars for an armed robbery that left a police officer and father of five dead. The chilling truth is that his story could have been mine. The tragedy is that my story could have been his.”

On April 20, 1999, two disturbed teenage boys Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris began a killing rampage at Columbine High School in the suburban town of Littleton, Colorado. This was considered one of the worst school shootings to occur at that time. In the morning of April 20, before noon, the two juveniles had killed 13 people to include 12 students and 1 teacher; they also wounded another 23 people before turning the guns on themselves. This event would change the theories as to why school shootings would occur. (History)
Through reading “Columbine: Whose Fault is It?” by Marilyn Manson we can identify that the media had a great influence in the aftermath of the shooting, and who was the scapegoat for it, in other words who is to blame for what happened to those poor 13 innocent teenage kids. The Columbine High School massacre was an infamous event that went down as one of the worst shootings to happen to a high school in America. In 1999, a pair of two students named Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold decided to assault a school in Colorado named Columbine High School. Their intent was unknown, and because of that, many people started speculating as to why the duo decided to shoot up the school.
