Fearing technology is foolish and should not be taken seriously.
Nowadays, scientific and technological discoveries happen too quickly, and it is often the case that people who do not belong to the science field can feel threatened by the results that Research produces. Biotechnology, cloning, and artificial intelligence are just a few terms that arouse fear in people’s mind and that divide the public opinion in two different positions: on one side, the one in favor of scientific research without any restriction, and, on the other side, the one that want to imposes severe controls to it in order to limit the possible and dangerous consequences. Despite the concern about Science can be understood, if we look closely to the history of human

In fact, not all the scientific discoveries have had an epochal impact on our evolution, but certainly they have changed our habits and lifestyle. One clear example is the development of the communication technology. Through the twentieth century it has moved from the first phone model to the smartphone and internet. A significant change, which made communication instantaneous and accessible to the whole world. Internet, since its birth, is the primary means of mass communication, which gives to the user the largest variety and amount of information available ever had in the history of man. Therefore, technology has made communication easier, but it also has made transport faster. In fact, if for centuries, to move from one part of the world to another it took months, even years, now with the inventions of cars, high-speed trains, and airplanes journey times have decreased exponentially. At the same time, it has also developed the Defense Technology. Crucial was the period of the two world wars, in which the war technology production and evolution rocket to unimaginable levels. However, with the current military equipment, countries can ensure their citizens protection against threats such as terrorism, public violence, or in extreme cases, …show more content…
In fact, on one hand, if used in the right way, an advanced war technology can protect from almost all the threats, but, on the other hand, if used incorrectly could endanger the entire human society. One clearly example is the atomic bomb. An eventual atomic war could wipe out the human race. In effect, analyzing the data on the only two cases when the atomic bomb was used on civilians (Hiroshima, 166.000 deaths, 06/08/1945; Nagasaki, 80.000 deaths 09/08/1945), they suggest that on a global scale the results could be horrific. Another question that worried the world's population is, how far can technology go? More specifically, talking about biotechnology, cloning, bioethics, and genetic engineering, or AI people ask when it is right to stop technological progress. In fact, we hear of genetic interventions in plants, and men, or robots more and more frequently. These news can scare because of the uncertain consequences. What scientists claim to do is undoubtedly positive and proactive but, unfortunately, the reality in which we find ourselves is often quite different. The common man often does not understand the importance that may have genetic studies and artificial intelligence on our society, as for example, treatment of diseases currently incurable and often lethal or the enormous advantages that robotics can lead to human society. Trust that has been implicitly requested in 2015 by Steven
However, over time, many of these "scary" new technologies have proven to be good and useful. Even if everyone does not see them as good or useful, those technologies often become a generally accepted part of life upon which people come to depend”(Human Cloning). Most people would get enraged about new technology surfacing, such as cloning. But, they can be known to be helpful and not so bad. Cloning can also eventually be very dependable and acceptable.
Surprisingly, the realization that war with the same level of technology would be a bad idea was not learned until after another World War. Even though World War I had a statistically astounding number of deaths for the time, WWII had nine times as many deaths, and went on for two more years! We’re fortunate now to live in a time where there isn’t war where we’re living, but unfortunate that the reason for that is because if there is war, nuclear weapons will make
This could have been prevented by just not having such overly powerful weapons, but the risks of them weren't taken into account. This example especially is nearing reality, and while it was written during a time of war, the relevance is coming back in 2016 while North Korea gains ownership of nuclear weapons. Though technology isn't always to blame. Tens of thousands of people are injured every year by something as seemingly harmless as a ladder simply because of not checking the directions or the maximum load. With that said, technology can be even more of an enabler for more people to hurt themselves, both physically and mentally.
As we can see in our studies, the role of technology and sources has changed tremendously over time and the development of society has changed as well due to the resources now available. As we take a look at all these documents we can see how each one has affected each other to help grow a society As we take a look at documents 1 and 3 we can see that education and using resources was very important because it led to the teaching of many important studies helping to develop boys many different teachings to survive and help make a living. One of the many important things in document 3, is all of the different crafts being taught to these young boys that could relate to document 1 where they are able to use the special maguey plant and their
Technology plays a significant role in every aspect of our lives. It is what separates modern society from an archaic past. It’s open-endedness and potential for great change make it nearly impossible to gain a complete understanding of its effects. Without this overarching understanding, many of us develop an improper indication of how powerful these advances could become. As a result, we fear what we don’t know and artificial intelligence is often Enemy Number One.
Self-Destructive Behavior Earth is the habitat of several species, yet only one governs, humans. The rapid growth of science and technology has opened many doors to human inventions and innovations. Although this development has changed and impacted human lives positively it has also brought along the way threats to the followings. As a human trait it is mainly known how people become more and more greedy as they learn that enough is not enough anymore therefore, they seek for other and more higher possessions and that is when things become dangerous.
1.1 Background of the Research Technology has always develop for a long time. Until today, it is still develops at a stunning pace. As a matter of fact, technology has touched every aspect of life; from the way we move by using a horse changed into automobile, from walking on the land to flying in the air and reach farther distance. The products we are using in our daily life also produced by the technology. Under those circumstances, including the economy, politics, and also society, are affected by technology.
As generation evolves, technology also progresses abundantly. Thoreau would say that technology is a great advantage to human kinds, however, it distance us from nature environment, it consumes too much time and money, and the machine is controlling our life. It is significantly important that we know how to use technology properly, or else it can be life debilitating rather than life enhancing. There is a negative advance to which he called modern improvements. For some people, it might be their high of the day for being able to ride cars, watch televisions, and travels.
As a society we are adapting, changing, and growing every day. Genetic modification is happening; many people are just not aware. Genetic engineering is great for society because it can cause many new advancements for the as in world with no diseases and a world without hunger. “There is a good case for exploring all ideas relevant to our current concerns, no matter where they lead” (Pinker 533). Although no one knows how far genetic enhancing and cloning could go makes it a dangerous idea, does not mean as a society that we ignore it.
Fukuyama brings up topics that can be split into two categories: risks and benefits of genetic engineering along with the affordability of genetic engineering. Considering scientists aren’t entirely sure how genes work, they bring about several ills they wouldn’t be aware of, whether they be immediate ills or ills that show up much later (Fukuyama, 678). Genetic Engineering could have horrific effects on a population which could lead to the abandoning of genetic modification, just like in the way that hydroelectricity is no longer used as much because of the potential of dam breaks or environmental effects (Fukuyama, 680). There is also a possibility that only the rich will have access to this technology, so the state would possibly have to intervene to fix this inequality (Fukuyama, 680). Fukuyama concludes his writing by posing the fact that no matter what happens with genetic engineering, genetic engineering will change the course of human history on several levels, and on levels greater than that of any human biotechnology (Fukuyama, 681).
Editing of the human genome in the past has been only a sight seen in dystopia works such as Brave New World. Now, genetic enhancement is a prevalent today and people are beginning to realize the issues that can arise from creating these designer babies. Gene editing can be helpful to eradicate life changing disabilities. Yet, the term disability does not correctly label these differently abled people, as the idea of what is considered disabled has changed overtime. To fully understand the consequences and implications of genetic selection and enhancement of human embryos, society must mature and declare lines of what is and is not ethically moral.
This essay will look more on the advantages and disadvantages of genetic engineering. Genetic engineering has some advantages. Firstly it allows for faster growth rate .Genetic engineering allows of plants or animals to be modified so their maturity can occur at a quicker pace outside of the normal growth conditions that are favourable without genetic changes as well .Secondly, it may also provide a cure for disease to improve health (apecsecadmin, 2014). Genetic engineering can be used to eradicate a number of incurable and deadly disease which could be done by identifying the genes that cause these disease, and manipulate them to prevent people from contracting these potentially deadly diseases.
“Military technology and safety” Military is the precious asset for every country it plays very important role in protecting once country by protecting borders and by controlling terrorism and by responding rapidly when natural disasters occurs. These days terrorism is the world’s biggest threat to Pease, every country must combat to terrorism and never encourage such activities. Most of the countries suffer with terrorism in these days. Technology is the smartest tool to control and combat terrorism.
Allowing robotics to gain new technology might result in the threat to human existence. Also, as DNA technology develops, there will be more opportunities to receive new treatments, but it will lead to the concern that personal DNA data will be exposed. The reason why these ethical problems occur is that regulations and laws cannot keep up with the technology since it takes some time to enact them. Despite the bright side of emerging technology, there are always ethical problems, and still engage a lot of
