Nowadays, the rapid growth of social media changed today’s society. Social media is being involved in most of the people in daily life. We use the Internet to enter Websites, Social Networks, and other kinds of social media daily. We can see people face-to-face on their cell phone any time even when they are walking or taking buses. Where would we be if social media hadn’t had been created? Are we going to be more or less social if social media never existed? For these questions, there are no right answers because different people have different opinions. Also, besides that, some people misuse social media such as chatting with friends while driving. Are we going to have fewer car accidents if social media didn 't exist? In the past, we have …show more content…
People even listened to radios and read newspapers to see what happened in the world. However, nowadays, social media makes people’s life be more convenient. We can simply go on social media and we will know about friend’s status and news around the world. According to the article “Is Technology Making people less Sociable…?” author Keith N. Hampton mentions that social media can help us connect with friends that are far away. The author stated that “social ties that we once would have abandoned as we left high school, changed jobs and moved from one neighborhood to another now persist online. (paragraph 4.)” I agreed with the author because friendship has to be connected in the case to maintain without social media, we won’t have to chance to do so since we all have school or work in different places. But now, we can use social media to keep in touch with old friends or friends that are far away. He also says that people still can be easier to share our opinion about different topics on social media. Sometimes A “like” or “comment” on Facebook or other social media can get another friend’s attention. In addition, we can see their posts and status online to see how well they are doing. Also, we can find people with the similar interest easily from social media and make new friends. At last, the author talks about social media makes it easier to maintain our …show more content…
Because people can access to all kinds of information easily, people are becoming more open-mind and feel empathy for the diverse group of people nowadays. According to the article “Found on Facebook: Empathy” Teddy Wayne says that the use of Facebook tends to increase people empathy. Also, he says that “we can be exposed to different ways of thinking and emotional situations. On a somewhat superficial level, individuals disclose things about themselves, and although it may not bring a deep sense of closeness, the next time you interact with them, you may feel you know them a little better. (par.10)” That means we can expose different emotional issues and allows users to know more about each other. In the same article, research done on Americans attitudes about same-sex marriage shows that the percentage of people expressing acceptance and tolerance of a group that used to be judged (par.7). Also, a study from 2014 mentions that private chats messaging and connecting people can increase more empathy for people who use social media. This research clearly shows that the growth of social media is directly related to people’s attitude about empathy and it did change American’s in a good way that people are more open-minded and be more
To further convince the reader, Ludden uses a study referenced in a journal by the credible Duke University psychologist, Jenna Clark. The study addresses college students and how the more Facebook friends that freshman had, the less socially adjusted they felt, whereas with seniors, the more Facebook friends they had, the more socially adjusted they felt (Ludden). This was due to a majority of the freshmans' friends being friends from high school or back home, whereas most of the seniors' friends were friends that they had made in college, therefore they were more connected with them because they interacted with them both online and in person. This study makes it easier to understand how the effect that social media has on you fully depends on your use of it. It makes sense that one would feel isolated and less connected to their environment when they are spending their free time connecting with those who aren’t around them.
I disagree with Dailey’s results; strong friendships and bonds can be created over social media. Some people lack the social skills needed to make friends with their next door neighbor or the person standing next to them in their local market. “Facebook may not replace the full benefits of real friendship, but it definitely beats the alternative” (Dailey 144). For these people, Facebook is the perfect venue to get to know someone that they

Ancient forms of human communication include cave drawings, smoke signals, symbols, and carrier pigeons. During the late 1800’s, communication became more advanced with the invention of the typewriter and the telephone. Roughly one hundred years later, a military project resulted in what we know today as the internet. With a little innovation, the internet made social interactions between people easier than ever, although, the convenience may come at a cost. Some theories suggest that heavy reliance on social media for human interaction will weaken communication skills, hinder meaningful social interactions, and negatively impact personal relationships.
First one is, when we communicate on social media we trust people soon at the end of communication. Second social connection those are strong due to face-to-face interactions in the past become weak due to social media. While using social media, we usually communicate with the people having same point of view like ours, so we lack in the variety of viewpoints. With the evolution of communication technology type and style of interpersonal communication is changed. Hence, with the larger influence of technology, communications become more advanced
Thirty years ago, the concept of social media would have seemed impossible. A place where a person can show everyone they know what they are doing in two seconds from any city seems insane. Today, it is the daily ritual of the average teenager, including myself. I start my mornings looking at Instagram and end my nights looking at Snapchat. The middle of the day is for YouTube.
Today our society is more concerned in face book friends where people don’t interact face to face. Social Media has a great impact on business also but only if it is planned strategically otherwise it can be a big failure. It is estimated that 80 percent of teen are Internet users. So, it is no doubt our real world social lives are seeing some changes. Social media is the driver behind that connection.
