Purpose
In the real world, many millennials and adults are encouraged into drinking coffee because they believe that it increases their energy and helps to concentrate better. We have decided to investigate the placebo effect and see how the type of caffeine affects one’s concentration and heart rate.

Dependant Variable: Heart rate and Concentration.
Control Group: All the participants did the concentration test before being exposed to coffee in order to be able to compare the outcomes without the independant variable with the results with the independent variable.
Control Variables: Same participants, same gender, same amount of water, same age group, same time wait.
Hypothesis
In this investigation, I want to find out whether the type of caffeine has an effect on the human body’s heart rate and concentration. After conscientiously researching the placebo effect and the effect caffeine has on the human body, I presume that If the participants drink both caffeinated or decaffeinated coffee the results of their heart rate and concentration will be higher than the results before drinking coffee. To be specific I do estimate that the heart rate and concentration will be affected remarkably by the caffeinated coffee more that the decaffeinated coffee. Materials

In this lab we were trying to figure out if Salt Creek and Barker Lake had the correct chemical balances to sustain catfish for the years coming. In order to find this out, we tested the water using a Hach Water Testing Kit. Inside were dissolved oxygen reagent powder pillows 1, 2 and 3 which we added and mixed into our sample water to prepare it for testing. Then we added droplets of Sodium Thiosulphate Solution into the prepared water too see how much dissolved oxygen parts per million were in the water. Our independent variable in this experiment was the 5 different testing sites that we went to for water samples.

My group recorded higher heart rate compare to the class average when we used caffeine on the Daphnia as seen in Figure 2. Several errors could have accounted for this data. This including perhaps the Daphnia’s heart rate may have changed because of fear while being moved from the bowl to the microscope slide. Another possible error could have also been the amount of time that it took to change the solutions, which could have accounted for slight variations in heart rate. Temperature is yet a further error to account for as the microscope slide temperature was constantly changing to view the specimen, and change the dosage of caffeine or alcohol.
